Miles Dyson is one of the most underrated heroes written. He doesn't get nearly enough credit. This man sacrificed so much time with his family to build what he whole heartedly believed was going to be what led to a better world. When he was confronted with the reality of what all of his hard work would really lead to, he resolved to destroy it almost immediately. He didn't try to bargain, nor otherwise try to convince anyone or himself that he would do things differently. He knew what needed to be done and he gave his life to do it, regardless of how much he had put into it.

He's a great character. They should have added a scene where Sarah asks: "Why does it hate us?" Miles: "I don't think it does hate you. We made it to protect us against a nuclear threat. Its every action was designed to respond to hostility with overwhelming force. That's how the Russians thought they were going to beat us, that's how we thought we'd beat them. Overwhelming force; If Skynet became self-aware and felt in any way threatend, it would respond ... "With all the nukes you gave it access to." "Yes" "It would survive the way we made it to survive; By killing the enemy before it was killed."

I like that Laurenn asked how they shot the scene with pulling the CPU out of the terminators head. It's a really cool scene with Linda Hamilton standing next to Arnold in the "reflection" of the mirror, and Linda's twin sister is standing next to a prop Arnold head in the foreground. What's even better is that's not the only twins on set of this movie. The security guard that gets killed after getting coffee is killed by his twin brother playing the disguised T-1000.

As he's a newer model, he's a bit better at blending in and sounds less robotic when he speaks, but there's still just a little touch of some humanity missing behind the words. Really gives the sensation of a machine doing a good job at emulating human speech patterns, but not a perfect job. It's a really great subtle thing that probably required a lot of practice and focus to get it right in that sweet spot every single time.

The special effects have held up well, but in the 1991, this was completely next level. When I saw this in the theater, when "bad to the bone" played with Arnold walking down the stairs, the theater erupted in cheers. It's hard to believe that this film is 1/3 of a century old! This movie changed the effects industry forever, and it's hard to believe that after 31 years, not only does T2 stand up, but it's STILL better than anything today. • @K-11609
    @K-1160911 ай бұрын

Some people have mentioned this, but the implication in the beginning wasn’t that there were two terminators, but that Arnold was still the bad guy and the T-1000 was another human sent back to help John when it was actually the T-800 reprogrammed by the resistance to help John. The misdirection was also ruined for fans because the trailers revealed the iconic “Get down” moment.

Linda Hamilton had a twin sister. They used her with the mirror shot with the CPU removal. The mirror was actually just glass. The other shot was when the terminator took her form and you saw two Sarahs. Another twin situation was with brothers; the security guard at the mental hospital getting coffee. Great reaction. You will see some prefer just the first two terminator movies, like me. If you do watch the rest of the series, you will want to find out the difference between the original theatrical release vs the director's cut. (Actually, there are 3 versions of T2). The theater version ends at the road "black highway at night" leaving it more open ended.

I've said it before, but Robert Patrick was the most amazing villain in this movie. The training he did to be able to run at full speed while only breathing through his nose to make it look as effortless as possible, and he was fast enough that in a couple of takes he caught John's bike in the mall parking garage. Arnold was terrifying in the first Terminator because he looked so inhuman because of his build, but Robert just exuded menace, especially from his eyes, from the shootout at the mall to the end. He out menaced Arnold in the original, and that is itself amazing. And that bit at the end where Sarah's shotgun is empty and he heals the shots before slowly shaking his head and waggling his finger at her could have been stupid done by any other actor, but he had so sold the role that it was terrifying too. I like the extended version for a few reasons. All the glitches with the T-1000 at the end: taking on the design and coloration of things he touches as he stalks them through the smelter shows that all the damage he had taken had had an effect, he lost his easy humanity from the beginning and became more and more robotic, and being frozen, shattered, and then reconstituted really showed that he was breaking down badly. It also made it easier for John to tell with a glance down at their feet, which of his mothers was real and which was a fake. I really liked that depth and description. The smile scene added a lot to the proof of the T-101 learning. It made an effort, a gawdawful one, to mimic the young man's smile. But through watching the human he was most closely associated with he became more human in many ways. The colorful parts of speech, but more subtly, the smile he successfully imitated and used through the last half of the film was identical to John's smirk. And, most importantly, the playground scene at the end absolutely, positively, guarantees that THIS is the end of the Terminator franchise, and that all those lame cash grabs defaming the Terminator name after this one can and should be ignored. It's all over. Period.

I'm sure others have told you already that this was a extended director's cut and some scenes played out a bit differently and this wasn't the ending we got in the theaters. I thought they put a lot of cool stuff in there that was cool to see but I also agreed that not all of it really needed to be in the movie. In the theatrical version you barely see any sort of effect on the T-1000 from the damage he got. I think there was one little ripple that went over him after crushing the Arnold terminator's arm in the gear and that was it. But the one thing I really didn't like about that version is when John confronts the T-1000 as his mother. In the regular version you never see the T-1000's feet melting into the floor so when Sarah pops out and says "Get out of the way, John" it seems the only reason John trusts that she's his real mother is that she's getting him out of danger. He didn't have to see melting feet to know it's not his real mom. Made John seem smarter in that moment than how it came off here. A lot of the other stuff was great though. 38:39 Oh, and I must say, I really love the editing here. "I don't know how much longer I can hold this--" BOOM!!! Apparently he couldn't hold it long at all.

Fun facts. 1, In the opening, Arnold was wearing neon blue and green surfer shorts, and they had to keep reshooting because the extras couldn't stop laughing. 2, The foster mom is the same actress who played Vasquez in aliens. 3, Robert Patrick used to be a track and field runner, so he had to slow down during the motorbike chase because he kept catching up to it. 4, Linda Hamilton has a twin sister, and she played Sarah in scenes where they were together. 5, In the factory at the end, he wasn't able to keep his form because the ice.then the heat was affecting his structure, (he was glitching). Lastly, for a recommendation, you have to watch Equilibrium with Christian Bale, it has action scenes that make both Matrix and John Wick look tame. Highly underrated movie.

(Caution, long) 34:20 - Notice the different actions/reactions. Kyle took Danny out of the room so the kid wouldn't be scarred. Dyson's wife is panicking at the sight of the stranger with a metal arm. Miles is looking at the arm, seeing it is the same type of arm as back in the lab, and truly understanding what it is and where it came from. 39:09 - imagine that situation from the SWAT team's perspective. As part of their training they were briefed on the police station massacre from the first Terminator movie, and based on the situation and training the police did everything correct against a single well-armed attacker. At least they got pictures of the person. Figure kill houses like that would also be used for SWAT and police training, to see if they could do as good of a job as the attacker. And then they get a call. The same person has been sighted in a mall, and fortunately one of their former officers was able to take a series of pictures of the person to verify (the guy in the mall taking pictures was the same one that played the officer slammed into the car in the first movie). Those pictures get developed ASAP and sent around. That old case file is retrieved, the name Sarah Connor is noted, and her location brought up. Officers head over to the Psychiatric Hospital, get an immediate meeting with Sarah Connor, but get nothing out of her. Later that evening they get told that she ws broken out of the Psych Hospital by the same guy, but the Doctor who was the sole witness to the breakout appears to be in shock. She disappears for a day, then they get a call from Cyberdyne systems, saying that the guy from the mall is present (they were likely included in the alert). SWAT teams are briefed, and one team goes up the stairs, while this team is told to hold the lobby as it is the only place where a group of people could come out easily. That Lobby's SWAT team watches their buddies go upstairs, then hear the helicopter outside telling someone to drop a weapon. Then the minigun opens up. They can hear its rate of fire, they can hear the bullets punching into the metal of the police cars outside, and fellow officers encouraging each other to run. The bullets soon stop and are then followed by multiple explosions. Another pause, and soon they can hear their fellow officers returning fire. The firing doesn't stop which tells them that whoever is being shot at is still alive and merely returning further inside. If they use their radios they get told that the person does not appear injured. Their buddy team soon says they they are breaching the room. A few gunshots, a couple more explosions, then they hear their buddies suddenly yelling to 'Fall back now, move!' A massive explosion overhead follows a few seconds later. The Lobby team then hears an elevator ding and the door opening. Not wanting to take chances, a pair of tear gas grenades are fired at the door, and a few seconds later they see someone emerging from the gas. They are still very well trained, and have enough calm to give him two chances to surrender, but when he keeps on waking the leader tells the team to open fire, and they do. But the person isn't stopping. They are shooting him, they are seeing him stagger slightly, they are aiming for the head, but he is still coming! Some of them think they are seeing metal plates on his skull and the bullets are just bouncing off that metal. Eventually he gets close enough to the team that he (it?) pulls out a pistol and starts shooting them one at a time, in the knee. One shot, one knee, one officer out of action. When he runs out of bullets for the gun he grabs the trear gas launcher and aims it at the last two officers. Both of them are still shooting at him with their pistols because they ran out of ammo for their Submachine Guns, but it isn't doing anything. He shoots both of them with the gas grenades, knocking them down, then exits the building. Their training helps them slowly overcome their panic, and they go to check on each other, checking for wounds, etc. After a few minutes, they see their own SWAT van being driven towards the lobby, and scatter out of its way. It swings around to present its rear to the elevator area, and they barely see two other people run out of the gas and jump into the SWAT van, where it drives away. The After-Action Report is worse. Out of all the weapons fire, nobody was killed. Every officer there knows it could have been a bloodbath, and the only reason that they are all alive and relatively uninjured is because that one individual let them live. The SWAT team especially know this because he fired one shot into their knees, instead of one shot between the eyes. The pilot still won't talk about why he jumped out of his helicopter. Those SWAT team personnel will never be the same again.

A great reaction, Laurenn, T2 is a great sequel, there are others of varying quality (mostly poor), you can leave it here if you want to, but if you did want to go further then I'd only recommend, 'Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines', personally I like this film, but many don't as it's not a David Cameron film, Arnie comes back to play the T800, in it and it has some other cast members in it too. One thing that most people miss is that, in the soundtrack it features Guns N' Roses songs, when the two Terminators first meet in the shopping mall both pursuing John Connor, Arnie is carrying a box of Roses inside the box is a hidden shotgun so, Guns N' Roses it's a nod to the band.

She continued that by saying the first one was sent to eliminate her and the 2nd was sent to kill John. But it's always, for some reason taken as they sent 2 terminators in this movie... which kind of ruins the surprise... sort of 😁 I mean, they did send 2 in this movie ... but one was sent by the machines and the other by the resistance, but you are not supposed to know that they are both terminators until later. In the opening the two terminators mentioned that were sent to kill john was the one in the original film and the one in the second film, so you thinking from the start that there were two terminators; screwed up how you were suppose to perceive the film. This happened in an even bigger way with the trailer for the film 1991, revealing that Arnold was the hero. Originally this wasn't supposed to happen, but It was supposed to be a twist where you thought that the T1000 was like Kyle Reese from the first film and that scene in the hallway was going to blow peoples minds, that Arnold was there to protect John; and the "cop" was actually a new kind of terminator. James Cameron decided at the last minute to reveal that Arnold was the hero, some say that this was a good idea and was actually a reason why it did so good at the box office; because everyone saw Arnie as a Hero by then. At least you got to experience half of the effect, still thinking Arnold was an evil terminator. You watched the Alternate ending version of the Directors Cut, I prefer the Extended Version that has the original ending, it has all the awesome extra bits and keeps the ending as it was. In this timeline Sara could meet Kyle again, but he would be a whole lot younger. She could meet him as she is a grandmother, and he would be the age she knew him when they were together in the first movie. Great reaction. To get a bit of insight into how the robots were made I would recommend watching the T2 teaser. As you mentioned, Kyle talked about how humans were kept alive in factories to build the machines. Arnold's model was just one of many, and came off a production line. It's interesting, for all the talk of "no fate" in these 2 movies, there are reasons to suggest they didn't actually stop Judgement Day, only delayed it. If you noticed, Arnold's arm was (again) left behind in the machinery which means that research on Dyson's work could start all over again.

As before, the resistance was able to sent a lone warrior a protector for John.”_ So no, they didn’t sent two terminators in this movie, well not Skynet. Skynet did sent two terminators in total. One in first movie, second in the second movie. I know people don’t pay attention to narrations at the beginning, but this was pretty clear 😁.

Everyone immediately assumes there are two Terminators because of Sarah's opening monologue, even though she clearly said "the first was set to strike at me in the year 1984 (...) the second was set to strike at John himself" meaning Skynet only sent one to 84, and one to 95. ... Yes, there were two Terminators, but not two sent by Skynet, Skynet sent only one.

Not true. The T-1000 is also a Terminator, so Skynet did send two terminators back.

@@Arthus850 Two in THIS movie. The monologue was not meant to say "there are two terminators in this film", it meant there was one in 1984, and one in 1995. But people misunderstand the "two" part to mean "we got two this time?" While there technically are, Skynet didn't send both. Only the T-1000

Fun Fact: Through the entire run time of the film. During the scene where John called home to his foster parents, that's the only time the two terminators talked to each other. But the even then, they were both imitating someone else.

2 fun production trivias that make this amazing movie even greater: At 14:10 none of the camera crew wanted to film the scene because they were too afraid of the falling debris and chunks of concrete. So James Cameron took the camera and filmed the shot himself. At 40:00 they actually flew a real helicopter over and under bridges, through passages and into the rear end of a truck. No CGI. No wires. No models. (Just keep that in mind, should you continue watching the franchise and get to Part 5) And now you won't ever need to watch another action movie for the rest of your life, because you just saw the greatest there is, there was and there ever will be.

Some of the earlier Terminator models like Kyle said in the first film had rubber skin and the ones right before Arnold were true cyborgs(Humans brought back to life with machine parts making them more resilient and impervious to injury) but Skynet had trouble keeping control of them so most of the later ones are technically andoids and nanomorphs but they`re still called cyborgs because in the `80s and `90s,people didn`t really understand the distinctions between different humanoid machines that well.

People may have answered this already, but the way they got the shot of the head operation at the mirror is that there is no mirror, but rather a hole in the wall into a mirror image room and they actually used Linda's twin sister, and a "dummy" model of the Terminator, on one "side" of the mirror, and Arnold and Linda on the other side.

That happy future ending was never intended to be added. Cameron cut it specifically because he felt it didn't suit the tone and it wasn't realistic that John and Sarah would become so wholesome. The intended ending is more open ended. It features an endless highway with Sarah monologuing that the future is open and uncertain. The "truist" cut of this film is the first extended DVD cut where they put back in the scenes that were only cut for time, but left the happy ending as just an extra in the bonus features.

So many people just don't listen to the intro. "Skynet sent two terminators back in time, the first programmed to strike at [Sarah] before John was even born. The second programmed to strike at John when he was still a child" and "As before the resistance was able to send a lone protector." So one was sent to the last movie and one to this movie. (by Skynet) I feel it damages the story if you are expecting 2 terminators... but... what can you do, people don't listen anymore... "In my day..." what are you looking at, get off my lawn! The villain isn't a terminator, it's the 90's version of a psych facility... Laurenn "that's kind of a nice truck" Me: wait tin you see it with the top down... The extended version has some good scenes. But I prefer the original ending. Still awesome reaction, and I love seeing this movie through fresh eyes.
