    This brought back memories of my old 1978 full time 4x4 Chevy Silverado. After hunting trips where I ended up crossing river crossing I would take the front hubs off and repack the bearings. The technology here is not new, I would go through the same steps here. Remember that was in 1978.

    This was a well put together video and excellent job on narration. I was thinking the same thing about the brake pads when I saw the old ones go back on. I too wondered about the convertion to the 8 lug wheels. I guess depending on the utilisation of your jeep the justification for more strength can be made. I really don't see that the wheel lugs as a common fail point for most. I would be interested in the conversion to locking hubs and bigger brakes. Anyway like I said though this was a very well put together how to video. One of the best I have seen.

    Standard braking systems use 70-80% of their braking in the front and 20-30% in the rear. To achieve even braking, we were able to get that by increasing the diameter and surface area on the rotor. Overpowering the rear brakes will spell disaster.

  • @robertpoet1665

    @robertpoet1665

    Old pads won't properly seat to new rotors, resulting in blue hard spots and brake pulse. You're buying an expensive upgrade for your ride, why cheap out on what could easily become a safety issue? Pads are dirt cheap. Change 'em out!

  • @TomKirkman1
    @TomKirkman14 жыл бұрын

    I'd love to have free wheeling hubs on my JK, but why did they choose to change up the 6 lug set-up? This means that unless you do the rear as well, you will be running two different lug-bolt/pattern wheels and can't rotate your tires. Furthermore, you are going to have to buy at least two new wheels even if you only do the front. This doesn't make sense.

  • @teraflexsuspensions

    @teraflexsuspensions

    4 жыл бұрын

    Unfortunately you can't fit a wheel hub this diameter into a stock 5X5 bolt pattern on a JK, there just isn't room. You have to go to a wider 8x6.5 to fit all components. Any yes, usually one would either buy both front and rear conversions. If swapping an axle to a 60, that comes stock with 8x6.5, some choose to add a conversion kit to their other axle instead of swapping both at the same time. Tons of options out there.

    There are 2 forces on the axle shafts and carrier with a semi float, a load from the weight of the vehicle, and load from rotational force. By supporting the shaft with 2 bearings on a spindle, you are eliminating the forces from the weight of the vehicle. Now the only force on the shaft and carrier is rotational force. Huge increase.

    5.75 backspacing plus another ~.70 inches is the wrong direction. You will end up around 6.45". You need to be less than 4.5" to properly clear your steering components/frame, and recenter your Center of Gravity. Unfortunately that combo will not work.

    No it's high temp synthetic brake grease. You would be surprised how much that grease helps with annoying brake squeaks/rattles Dennis

    Yes with a price tag of about 1599. They have to be custom made, lead time is 4-6 weeks. Guess how I know....

    Less than 3k gets you this set up if you install yourself, so it depends on the costs of the Dana 60 to get it ready for use, also the extra weight of the 60 may not be desired.

    I am going to get beat up for asking this, but I don't see this upgrade offered for the DANA 30 low pinion front steer axle on the website unless I looked right past it?... I only off-road occasionally, and drive on street 99% of the time, and when I do off-road events, I am lite on the gas peddle, as I don't care to break anything if it can move helped... does this front kit come for the DANA 30 low pinion, example, 1993 Jeep grand Cherokee?

    @@teraflexsuspensions Yah, I understand, I get laughed at for the amount of money and time I have put into my L.P. 30, even with this series having a long history of breakage, I lean to the drivers heavy foot, and not knowing when to quit and simply winch... Yes, it is still risky no matter what ,and also, old, and as I understand it to be, nobody is installing the L.P. 30's on anything to even make it worth your efforts to even research this... I understand, I stil like using the products I do have or have run in the past on other rigs.. Do you have any front lock-out kits for L.P.30's? or something I can piece together? Fuel Economy!!! LOL Thank you, Dru

    What made you all go 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern instead of sticking with JK 5 on 5" or 5 on 5.5" like the other kit available on the market?

  • @teraflexsuspensions

    @teraflexsuspensions

    That, little buddy, is a Great question. When we were looking a doing the conversion, it was necessary to go from a 5 0n 5 bolt pattern to a 5 on 5.5 pattern. No way around it, you were going to need to buy new wheels. If you are buying wheels anyway why not buy 8 on 6.5 and gain all the strength advantages. The 8 lug also allowed us to use off the shelf 1 ton wheel bearings etc. Much stronger alternative.. Dennis
