    You misspelled the name of the muscle. It is called "tensor fasciAE latAE" It pertains to the "fasciA latA" fasciA LatAE would therefore not really make sense. So your version, fasciA latEA, would still be wrong if "EA" was just a typo.

    It’s hard to visualize how the TFL can cause hip INTERnal rotation when it’s routed mostly on the outside of the thigh and attach to the front of the tibia. Does Internal rotation still occur when the knee is not bend?

  • @AnatomyLab

    @AnatomyLab

    Жыл бұрын

    I m Sorry i didn’t see your comment,.. the internal rotation is caused by contractions of the upper muscle fibers . the fascia is really really tough thatswhy I think this even works- even relatively little contractions can influence the insertion and therefore cause rotation,.. from what I know the knee needs to be bend. I hope this helps you out a little,.. have a good one EJ!

  • @strawberryfueled

    It's all about the curves. IT band inserts to the Gerdy's tubercle on the LATERAL epicondyle of the tibia. It might seem in front of the Tibia when you look from this angle, but the point of insertion is actually on the side of the tibia (lateral), because the head of the tibia is not flat, it's curved. Try to dothe following: Ly down on your back with some support under your head. Find your TFL and place your fingers along the muscle. Look towards your knee. Find a point slightly to the side of Tibial Tuberosity (where the patellar tendon inserts to the Tibia). It will be on the side of your leg. Visualise now pulling the string between this point and your fingers. Now the INTERnal rotation will happen, because your TFL is also placed on the curve: yes, on the side of your hip, but at the same time a little bit in front of your body, right above your knee (your lateral epicondyle, to be precise). So by pulling in the IT band, your TFL will move it's insertion point from the side of your body, and place it also in front of your body, right underneath itself. On the other hand, the INTERnal rotation could never happen if the insertion point of the IT band would have already been in front of the Tibia, as you correctly pointed out, or if the TFL would have origin further in posterior direction (or more to the outside of the hip, can you say), or both. And no, you don't have to bend the knee to achieve the internal rotation, because this does not affect any of the described above. This was a kind of long, but I hope it can help you EJ.

    @Anatomy Lab appreciate your hard work. I had a question why is it you show the iliotibial band in a gentle arc/turn as it goes down from the iliac crest past the greater trochanter of the femur in this video as the leg kicks out (@1:29) yet in your other videos you, you show the ilitibial band at a hard 90 degree bend at the trochanter (kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zq54q5WaZZbQZ7Q.html) (kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5OYqq1rnKedeKQ.html) (kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y5ee1qOTZK6tms4.html) is this just a fluke with how the model is rigged or is it something i need to pay attention to as part of the particular motion shown?
