Tennis Footwork - Top 3 Mistakes and How To Correct Them.
Top Tennis Training coach Simon Konov (LTA Senior Performance Coach) breaks down the top three most common errors that tennis players around the entire world are making but more importantly how to correct them.
Common Errors and Solutions:
1. Players not using a good or correct split step whe the opponent makes contact with the ball. A good split step will help you to be balanced so you can move into any direction, will send a signal to your body to get ready to move and will give you an explosive push off when you start moving.
2. Using side shuffle steps to recover, this takes longer and wastes more energy than using the cross-over or cross behind step.
The cross-over and cross-behind step allow for the maximum amount of distance to be covered while still facing the opponent.
3. Recovering to the wrong position on the court, mainly back into the centre. Coaches teach players to recover back into the centre when players are just starting out the game but as you progress, you need to be aware of and master the different recovery zones on the tennis court.

Cool intro shots. Rarely see the cross over step used in seniors tennis, (even high level). Footwork is very under appreciated part of the game. Great vid.

This is really eye-opening. I feel really grateful, I'll try to fix the mistakes and implement some improvements from now on. Let's see how it goes! (the thing I was ignoring the most was fhe cross-over/cross-behind)

How does the "step out" fit into the footwork patterns or mistakes? Coach Kriese said this pattern changed in the mid 90's. Appreciate the videos.

Loved this vid. Many of my beginner students tend to have extrwmely lazy feet, thinking tennis is all about the arms. I wonder what drills i can use to encourage them to move their feet more?🤔
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
4 жыл бұрын
I have a few methods: 1. Bring out the belt and whip them 2. Use an electric shock on their legs every time they don't move their feet 3. Hard physical punishment, 100 press-ups, 100 squats, 100 jumping jacks, suicide sprints. If that fails to work, you can always do footwork drills with them

For sure, the split step is universal for any player and the use of the crossover step when recovering from wide balls would work regardless of your playing hand. Thanks for watching. All the best Simon
What type of footwork should I use to get to the ball? Or do you have a video on that?
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
5 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the incoming ball but many balls can be reached with normal running steps. Thanks for watching. All the best Simon

Great vid here! Do we start to initiate the split step (i.e. to start the little hop) right at the time the opponent makes the contact of the ball, or we should initiate the split step just slightly before (so when the opponent makes the contact, we are in the air)? thx!
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
3 жыл бұрын
Try to go up into the air just prior to their contact, you'll be in the air when they make contact and you'll land just after contact

You should fade in the audio for every new transition edit so you can avoid clicks and pops on the audio. Also wind cover on mics to avoid diaphragm from over-driving and distorting. Thanks

Hi Simon, I can't see the link in the description when to use the cross-behind step
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
4 жыл бұрын
Hi This video is a good few years old now so we tend to get rid of older links etc when we change websites. You would normally us the cross-behind step when you've finished a stroke with your outside foot behind the line of your inside foot, that makes the cross-behind step the better option
