Hello. congratulations for the great work you have done. I'm making my tennis ball machine, and I wanted to ask you if you're kind enough to give me some little advice. what distance is there between the wheels? what engines did you use? thank you very much and congratulations
Hello, could anyone tell me what sized wheels he used in this build? What batterys were used to power it? Thanks.
hi!, what kind of dc motors did you used? there are equal? could you specify the rpm, operating voltage and kind of source?(it looks like DC)
Hi, Buddy First of all. congrats your project is really nice. I've trying a similar one. Cheap and fit also but my prototype I put a DC motor not a brushed one. So I would like to no how many RPM you set for a topspin backcourt? Thanks
what type of wheels are you using and how did you get them? Also how did you connect the wheel to the motor ?

Hi friend, can I ask something a lit bit technical? The DC Motor used is a high tork, I belive it´s 2.42N.M . My question is, what´s preferable here, Tork or High RPM?
What software are you using for the 3D modelling?

Hello BO. First of all, congratulations for your project. It's really cool and well made. So, I'm building a machine too. I don't have the same skills in eletronic and mechanic as you, but, i'm trying really hard with some help of a friend. Maybe we can share some knowledge? I have some questions for you: 1) I'm thinking of using EVA wheels (ethylene-vynil acetate). Its very light and very strong. Maybe it makes the autonomy of batteries longer, cause the motor uses much less force... I'm trinking in MDF only as the axis for the wheels. What you think? This really can influence the autonomy of batteries? 2) How you imagine the mechanism to feed the machine with the balls? I'm thinking in a microwave motor (low RPM) vertically disposed in a PVC pipe. It slowly rotates and liberates the ball. What you think? (sorry for bad english... i'm from Brazil). Thanks man!

Hi vexguine, 1) I don't have experience with EVA, but if the wheels have required shape or can be modified then why not to try. I also wanted to use wheels but couldn't find any that would be good for this (wrong size, expensive, heavy, unavailable at my location etc). 2) kzread.info/dash/bejne/d4iHp9d-YKawnJs.html check this video for inspiration. I think that good feed mechanism is the most difficult part of the machine.

0bo0 Thanks for the answer. Very inspiring video too. Lobster machines are great but in my country it is very expensive. I could say that the prices of a "chinese" machine is barely a robbery. American machines can cost $ 4.000! That situation gave me the idea to project a machine for personal use. Now my friend is thinking in commercial purposes for the local market. I dont know.. So, I tried with EVA and the result is very good! Very solid and strong wheel. Thats it. As soon as I have a good machine to show I will post a video. Bye

What kind of material did you use for the wheels?
Hi, great job first of all... Could you please tell me how much is the diameter of the wheels and the axle spacing?
@0bo0
10 жыл бұрын
Hi, thx. Diameter is 195mm. I can't measure spacing right now, but it's between 35-45mm. Ball has to be squeezed to achieve high velocity.
@lk533
10 жыл бұрын
0bo0 Thank you, that's what I thought too... So the ejection speed of the ball is given both by the wheels rotation speed and by the squeeze energy right? What's approximatively the range of rotation speed for the wheels? I'm doing a research on tennis machines for my University :)
@0bo0
10 жыл бұрын
lk533 I think that the greatest benefit from squeeze is increased friction and contact time between ball and wheels. If a ball doesn't slide during the contact, the speed it gets more closely matches linear velocity of the surface of the wheel. Maximum rotation speed this machine can achieve is over 5k rpms (depends on battery voltage). Such speed require perfectly balanced wheels. Mine are usable up to 3-3.5k currently.

Hello, were you able to compute the speed of the ball in the CAD software ?
@0bo0
10 жыл бұрын
Hi, max speed can be easily calculated from rpm and wheel diameter, but actual speed is much lower due to low friction between wheels and ball, ball squeeze, etc. Maybe someone who uses such software regularly would be able to simulate this, but I wasn't.

@@0bo0 Hi, first of all congrats for your amazing project and thank you very much for sharing your 2 videos. Technically delightful : closed loop speed control, bluetooth bidir communication, slope control,... I’m working on a similar DIY project, and would like to share with you some considerations on the *ball speed* leaving the ball machine, compared with *engine RPM*, In video n° 1 (1:20) , ball is flying from the baseline to first quarter of the field (approx 18m), taking off with a slope of about 15°. Considering usual kinematic laws, the ball speed should be something 18 ~ 19 m/s. IF( !) the ball and the wheels WOULD have perfect friction, they would have the same linear speed at shooting time…. with a diameter of 190mm, this lead us “just” to ~1900 rpm…. BUT you are using an engine of 5300 rpm ( much more than 1900 rpm!) My *questions* are: -WHAT is the “normal” rpm speed are you using for the “flat shot” from the baseline ? -Have you considered a different wheel material to increase friction ? BR
@0bo0

@@Giuliano1969 Hi Giuliano, thanks for the comment. I haven't used the machine since long time ago and cant answer your question about rpms (3-4k?). Definitely had to be much higher than what I was getting from a simple calculation. My plan was to put an continuous closed band cut out of an inner tube from an old car wheel onto machine wheels to increase friction. Having a closed rubber loop would make it more safe in comparison to a strip glued onto the surface. Another improvent that can be done with the stuff easily available today would be replacing attitude control dc motor with a stepper, use a screw with a trapezoid thread, and absolute rotation sensor (hall effect) instead of a potentiometer (or just add an endstop and perform homing procedure each time the machine is switched on, then count steps).

hola BO, pero si utilizas motores de 100-200 w tendras que utilizar luego una conversor para poder llevar una bateria de 12 V, y hacer el producto transportable...
@0bo0
10 жыл бұрын
Hello. Not sure if I understood your post correctly. I meant 100-200 watts not volts, so there's no need for any converter. Just a PWM controller for each motor. And position sensors/encoders - to maintain set speed even when battery voltage drops. I think about including 230v->12v power supply as an optional module though.

Depends on many factors, in my case with fresh batteries it should theoretically work for almost an hour. Currently I use old batteries from UPS (see 2nd video) which have only one third of original capacity and that gives 15-20 minutes.

I currently use two standard UPS 12v 7Ah batteries in parallel and they are weak comparing to lipos. It takes quite a long time to spin the wheels up to 3k rpm with this setup, I think the motors would easily draw ~60-100Amps (total) if battery could provide it. Blue batteries used on this movie are 2x 2200mAh 20 or 25C lipo, that means about 40-50Amps max discharge current each.
Hi 0bo0,I'm working on an automation project for a machining class I'm taking. I was planning on making a tennis ball launcher for dogs, and came across this video. This is an awesome/ reasonably simple design concept! I didn't know what the possibility of me getting some dimensions from you was? I have to use AC motors and have to have three pneumatic moves. So there will be design differences I will figure out, but I have no clue where to start :). I'd appreciate any help! Thank you!
