Building My Dog an Automatic Ball Launcher!

Having a little too much time on my hands while being in lockdown, I decided to build my dog Ollie, an automated tennis ball thrower / launcher! He reloads the ball himself and it shoots it out for him to chase. Hours of fun! #DIY #fun #dog

Any chance you’ll make more in depth instructions?
Love it! That motor seems a bit overkill, since it will take me 40mph on a skateboard
Awesome work! Someday when I build this, I would add a "Garden sprinkler" function for some randomness - a separate motor that turns left and right within a certain arc. Ollie drops the ball, and ... who knows where it goes? I see a bidirectional motor on a platter, controlled with microswitches each end of the arc to change direction. Make it adjustable so you can control how much left - right swing there is (less lost balls in the neighbor's yard). Of course first I need a dog... hope this idea is inspirational!
Awesome! I'm an EE with a springer spaniel so this project looks right up my alley. Do you have a parts list with your code published someplace?
Loved the editing and how the images sync so well with the music!
Please share and further part 2 Projects for Ollie! Thank you!! Loved this one very much!

So glad you enjoyed it! Part 2 is in the works 😁😁😁
Did you publisch the program for arduino and some details of the setup ?
This is wonderful! What a lucky dog well done it's beautiful!!
WOW, Great work!
Great work Luke.
It does look amazing if you ask me Great design!
Great job! I would love to make something like that.
I hope your channel grows. You deserve it
Luv da workshop
Was thinking of building something similar but I was thinking compressed air. I like your design more. It’s simpler

Compressed air would be cool! But the issue is the size of the compressor. It can’t really be portable then, and not battery powered.
Excellent Luke!

Thanks Jock!
fantastic
Cool project - gotta love a guy who wears ear protection while in bare feet.

Aww thank you! More coming soon ☺️
I’ve also got a springer and have been wondering if I’d be better served putting together my own diy launcher as you have done .. quite well I might add.. one thing I might change would be adding a second motor and wheel to achieve greater distance .. borrowing from designs for pitching machines or American football launchers. But solid job mate.
Great video!
Kitty comes out- "what's going on out here ? Imma trying to get some rest 😴.. WHAT?? the dog is chasing the ball? Seriously!!?? Imma going back to sleep. Peace out"......
well done!

Thanks Stefan! It was a fun one to make.
This is amazing. Did you post the repository? Git hub" ?
Random question....what are the beautiful purple flowers in the flower bed when first testing the motored launcher?
great video, are you slowing down for those shots with 120fps or something different?
Should make it so input is on the read, forcing the dog away from the front of the launcher. Interesting, however I like the one which simply cranks back a bolt attached to a couple of rubber hoses like a slingshot. It also has an arm that elevates, sending the ball in a parabolic arch.
Can you give more specs on the motor?

I'm also interested in the motor specs. Everything else seems straight forward.
Hello! I am just starting out learning electrical engineering, but I'm assuming you used a motor driver/shield or something to help control the motors correct? And how did you manage to attach the wheel to the motor? I've been scouring YT and the internet and can't figure out a good way of doing it. Thank you!
Try Flex tubing for getting better angle on launch end, thus you could shoot high or low. Besides the dog also was trained to know exactly where ball would launch from?? Not much exercise.
Hi Luke, how's the next iteration of this project coming along?
Hi man this is very nice idea.... i try to do sth similar but for throwing back ball for the office mini basketball...:) can you share : program arduino with us.. thx thung up
Hello, could you share the components you have used for this project??
Great project, I have been thinking about building similar and got some good tips. I was thinking maybe an extra feature could be a motor that rotates the whole base by a random amount (you get cheap lazy susan bearings perfect for this online) each time so he doesn't know where the ball will go :)

Let me know if you do it!
Hi, can i get the name of what you lock the motor and the wheel together? or maybe a link thanks a lot!
What motor did you use?
Love your design and concept! I found your vid after seeing the price of a ball launcher and deciding I would try making one myself! But alas, I doubt I will succeed ….

Give it a try! Worst case scenario is you have some fun doing it 😂
Could you provide links to the motor
Can you link all the parts?
What specs is the motor you used?
Poor bloody cat when’s he get one. 🇦🇺👍
What type of motor did you use ? What is the power of the motor ?
hi can you pls share the code for the arduino
what motor did you use?
cost of parts?
Hello Luke, I’m looking at making one of these for myself but that shoots footballs, any ideas to help me with this?
@LukeMaximoBell1

That’s going to be tough to get enough power for a football 😮😮 I would use 2 motors, and make them as big as you can find!

@@LukeMaximoBell1 No worries Luke, thank you.
To buy this online minimum cost is 18000 INR (200-250$)
Is this the "Go-dog-Go" it's the exact same concept design.
Awesome project. Just need a smart dog to match....
Any chance you can share your code
How far does this Rev 1 throw the ball?

Not too far. About 3m!

What motor is that? Wondering how many RPM's it is
@LukeMaximoBell1
3 жыл бұрын
180KV at 22.2V, so it’s about 4000RPM
@KozmoKraemer

@@LukeMaximoBell1 Thanks! I am making one right now. I think you may get further distance if you put a dummy wheel above the motors wheel to get it to pinch and throw it.
What motor is that?

180KV at 22.2V, so it’s about 4000RPM
The only problem is the dog stands in the line of fire. If you make this device shoot stronger, the dog could get hurt.
Part 2?
Beach
But i gotta spend $200 on a manuafactured one, tf? why r they so expensive if this is basically all it is?
CAUTION, I just learned from the vet that it is NOT SAFE for dogs to play with tennis balls.
What are the specs of the motor that you used?

I’m not too sure 😭 I know low KV skateboard motor.
