Sorry to burst your bubble here but competition matters big time. This hire screams of a cheap, fall back option. Have you seen her contract? It’s paltry. It shows there is zero commitment to truly doing what’s necessary to get the Lady Vols back to elite status. We just need to face facts. The days of this once storied women’s powerhouse being slit are long gone. The university simply doesn’t care about women’s basketball and this hire proves it. We will be nothing more than a mid major program that will occasionally make a little noise every now and then.

Love the hire of Caldwell ! I know all but 1 year of her head coaching experience was in Division 2 but nonetheless what she done in 7 years at Glenville state only losing 24 games is absolutely incredible and than took over at Marshall and lead them to the most wins ever in a season…31 losses in 8 years speaks for itself!!!

I like the hire, she’s a winner! Hope everyone gives her the support she deserves!

Hey remember when Danny White hired Josh Heupel and people lost their shit? This is basically that as far as people trashing her before she even has a chance. People need to calm down. Winning is winning and with her record she at the very least has a very good idea how to accomplish that. I do feel bad for Harper though. I think injuries hurt her more than anything over the last few years and she cant control that.

It will be very interesting to see how she recruits. Everything points to her teams playing fast, scoring lots of points. Exceptionally fun type of basketball. Probably means lots of people gets lots of playing time.

Danny has hired Hurley, Liepold, Oates, Heuple.... He doesn't miss and he has the benefit of the doubt! Im excited she does nothing but win with an exciting brand of basketball!

Yep. And our current roster is full of players that can’t run her system. So that means she is gonna have to try and gut the whole team. This is going to be a disaster.

I wish Coach Caldwell the best, and I will support her the same way I supported Pat, Holly, and Kellie. I was disappointed that he didn't have a hire lined up before firing Kellie, and that he didn't seem to even go after a big name hire.

Shes going to need to hit the portal hard to get some top players in for this upcoming season. Team is loosing possibly 6 players thats if Spears leaves. And we have NO incoming from HS class. So this is going to be a rough year. Will take her a couple years to recruit her type players to fit her system.

Im happy for Tennessee women's basketball and, Coach Kim Caldwell: There is only one thing I'm concerned about because Coach Caldwell is no nonsense, an excellent recruiter and, she forces her players to execute, she is very strict and hard nosed and all business! There will be complaints about her being too hard on her players, I just hope the program allows her to do her job. I like the hire...she has had a ton of success, is young, and seems like a good coach...Everyone bellyaching about not going out and getting a big name...Pat wasn't a big name when they brought her in...Geno wasn't a big name when they brought him in at Uconn...give me a break. Nick Saban wasn't a big name...until he was a big name, this crying is ridiculous. I'm looking forward to seeing what she does. Marshall was 17-14 the year before she got there...then they went 26-7 and made the NCAA for the first time in decades...that says something.

The Tennessee Lady Vols suffered months of player injuries that dampened their win loss record this year, but they played South Carolina better than the Iowa Hawkeyes or any other college team this year and yet Kellie gets the boot? After taking the helm at Tennessee Kellie Harper made the NCAA Tournament four out of her five seasons coaching Rocky Top. And the Lady Vols have been in the Sweet 16 in each of the past two seasons! Even with injuries to her key players, no one played undefeated SC as well as Kellie's Lady Vols did this year and it took a miracle for the gamecocks to win that contest. Injuries this year hobbled key Tennessee players and kept them on the sidelines for almost two months of the season preventing the Lady Vols from achieving even better results. Few remember that it took the legendary Pat Summitt 11 years to win her first championship. Kellie did not get the time. Unfortunately, intercollege athletics is no longer about sportsmanship and school spirit but about money and has become a vicious, dog-eat-dog, multimillion dollar business for the schools and with the advent of transfer portals and compensated players pro ball for student athletes in a farm league used by the pros! This has produced the best college "teams" that money can buy but for me these so-called intercollegiate games are just not as appealing as they once were!

Does seem like a Frank Solich firing. two sweet 16s and OK, one deep in the NCAA this year. Fire. It's probably a good thing they got out of the Pat Summit legacy finally. Things got better when Fulmer finally got invited out. My sense of the hire? A roll the dice, get lucky and she's a rising star? Great. If not rinse and repeat in as little as two years, not too much harm done.

@@TheJhtlag The harm for UT is if it's "rinse and repeat" after even one year (unlike Kellie Jolly Harper who only received 50% of her remaining contract) Kim Caldwell will be owed 100% of her contract by the University in severance representing several million dollars.

And the one hire he does make hasn't even coached one game for us before you're prophesying her a failure. What sense does this make to have such a harsh take on something you haven't seen yet (because you didn't watch any Sunbelt or Marshall games, either). Let it play out. It's either this or circle the drain with Kelly another two years. This level of salty before you know anything will have you looking ridiculous in the end.

Really wish White would have went a different way. I feel he should have hired someone who has a winning track record in regular and post season play. We need someone who has consisently beat big opponents. Glendale State and Marshall just not something Im liking. Needs to be a coach who has beaten top teams in D1 competetion. She doesnt have that resume. Iooks like were in for another 5 years if she doesnt win.
