TENERE 700 - PHASE 3 PROJECT BIKE
Our 2020 Yamaha Tenere 700 has been around the block a couple of times now. Early on we put together Phase 1 utilizing more general parts to make it more comfortable and durable. Then Phase 2 came about as more aftermarket brands were getting Tenere 700 specific parts released to the market. And now Phase 3 is our effort to see how far you can go with the T7 to see what actually makes sense. We admit it's pretty ridiculous. But it's so much fun. Even if it did take us 8 months to get all the parts we needed due to supply chain issues. But here it is. Let us know what you think in the comments. This bike is featured in Issue 76 of Upshift Magazine.

Those are literally my words! Here's an interesting question: given the obviously phenomenal capabilities of a very highly modified T7, what does its basic platform (i.e. almost complete lack of electronics) say of all the OTHER mid sized ADV mounts?
@WeExplore2
Жыл бұрын
@@keyboarddancers7751 it says s capable in it's stock form. Bikes are built to a price from the manufacturer and few if any would buy one from a dealer with this spec sheet. Let's see if we can get a twofer deal 😉
Excellent T7 build! You've given me ideas on what else I can do to my T7. Really enjoyed reading the articles and viewing the series videos.

I always like a T7 but I was more impressed with the video editing. That two minute intro made me get up from the couch and downstairs to sit on my own T7 (but no riding due to snow..)

Well shoot! That's a solid compliment. Thank you
Looking at some of these comments makes me laugh. Yamaha build this bike to a price for a reason, that being it is perfectly suited to 90% of the buyers. If you want to ride it your way then modify it your way and be happy. How much you spend on it is up to you. This is an awesome video on what you can really do with this bike if you really wish to so thanks for making it. Love it. 🙌🏾

Thank you. We have the ability to see what the bike is capable of, so why not. We certainly are not telling anyone they have to do the same thing. One of the greatest attributes of the T7 is how affordable and capable it is stock but that it is also a platform that can be made into some much more.
Simply this is THE BIKE I'd dream to have. Amazing build, congrats

Nice build! Can you elaborate on the three sets of different handlebars, like rise, sweep, widht and why you choose each set a your three stages of the projects?
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE

For Phase 1, we put some Fasst Flexx bars on. They add some small bump absorption and reduce fatigue. Especially good when the suspension is stock. Phase two we used a Pro Taper MX bar. Something straighter and wider. We also had the stock suspension tuned as much as we could by Race Tech. This last set of bars is also a fat bar kind of like an MX bar, but a lot more though went into the ergonomics for Dualsport/ADV. They make one bend and it hits the sweet spot for us and it's available in three heights. It also offers a lot more room for controls which traditional MX bars do not. We will have the Cheetah Factory bars in our store soon.

We certainly understand the high pipe but it isn't something that we have needed. We dropped and dragged this bike countless times since we received it 3 years ago and have not bent the pipe. Another consideration for us is that Yoshimura does not make a high pipe for the T7 and Yoshimura supports Upshift. They have for quite some time so we will run their pipe as they make. It's the least we can do.
Perfect timing for my xmas list :)

Glad we could help!
What do you think? probably around $20k total? I have wanted a T7 since before Yamaha even thought of building it but is it worth putting this much into it vs buying a KTM 890? giving the choice I would rather have the Yamaha but does it make sense from a bank account stand point? And I feel this goes without saying but awesome job you guys have great taste
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE
Жыл бұрын
$20K is probably in the neighborhood. We can't even give you an accurate total. A lot of the parts we used aren't even available anymore... it took that long to get everything in. Like the forks were in the $4200 range and since then Ohlins has moved to a cartridge kit that is $1200ish. 890 vs T7 ... The 890 is still going to need a lot of these items to make it more enjoyable/capable. The 890 is a race bread machine that definitely has some advantages especially if you jump up to ConeValve boingers. The T7 becomes much more capable with some set up but is a lot more approachable day in and day out. And the CP2 is incredibly durable and the electronics are really simple. They both have their place and we love them both. But the T7 is definitely the better value proposition.
I have been looking to see if anyone was making aftermarket wheels for the t7..does dubya offer any color combo hubs/rims? And what is the cost?
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE

They do offer a number of different hub colors and a few rim options. They can also custom cerakote the hubs damn near any color you want. Call Cole at 714-279-0200. Tell him Upshift sent you and he will get you taken care of.

It's still tall. Not certain of the exact seat height. I'm 5'8" and it's still kinda tall. But I make it work pretty well as long as I think about what I'm doing and where I'm stopping.
Love the build! Do you find the power bronze screen stops the wind buffeting at highway speeds? Even with the height adjusters I find the stock screen still creates too much buffeting.
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE
Жыл бұрын
We honestly can not remember which wind screen we have on this bike. We just wanted a darker option. We have yet to ride a T7 that doesn't buffet. It's not as bad as the Africa Twin though.
@ApocalypseNouille
Жыл бұрын
I have the the Powerbronze sport windscreen on my T7 and it works wonder for buffeting. It is also much nicer offroad, because it has less chance of hitting your chin when things get rough. The one drawback it has is that it directs air onto the helmet, so you better have good earplugs for the wind noise. It gets rid of the helmet shake and blurry vision at high speed, and is much quieter overall, though! (I'm 5'10 with the stock seat, for reference).

Is that a problem? Nobody else has to do what we did... and that's why we did this in 3 phases. To break down certain things that make sense for different riders. It's easy enough to edit out what you don't want and to fit your budget.
I'll be impressed when someone rides like that with full luggage and food for a week on board. If I want to off road I'll take a 450x over a t7 anyway. T7 isn't an adventure bike or a travel bike. It's a big dirt bike. No thanks.
@Tr3ggs

Dont knock it until you have tried it. It is definitely possible, and I have been doing it. I also have a drz400e and I reach for the T7 more often these days.
@UPSHIFT_ONLINE

Adding 20 - 40 pounds of gear will change how it gets ridden. And it should. If the Tenere 700 isn't an adventure bike we don't know what is. Sure, it was designed to be an offroad capable machine, but it isn't a dirt bike. It's also not a touring bike in the traditional sense. It straddles categories and it's great.
