Top 5 modifications to upgrade my Yamaha Tenere 700 for serious offroad riding

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I will try to clarify what are my top five modifications for serious off road use of the basic Yamaha Tenere 700 - even if they are pretty obvious.
0:00 Intro
0:23 Overview
1:42 Tires
3:44 Forks and shock
4:49 Bashplate
5:57 Handguard
6:53 Air filter
8:47 Bonus: Brake pedal
9:25 Ending
If you use your Tenere 700 as travel or commuter bike, this might be irrelevant to you. In this case you need other upgrades for the best use of the bike - like luggage system and comfy seat -, but if you come from motocross or enduro riding, you will need these modifications asap for sure.

    Holy shit girl, I was going to ask why you left the stock exhaust on the bike if you know what your doing, THEN I SAW YOU RIDE.. awesome to see you thrashing the big T7 and I will absolutely be paying more attention to your channel 👍. I can handle a t7 reasonably well but m8 your a weapon...great to see a lady's riding channel that survives on proper hard riding, not relying on "I'm a girl so I'm special"...I sure as hell could not out ride ya..top stuff and kind regards Jb

    Thank you so much, I am really happy to hear it! ✋😊 Yes, you are right, the exhaust change is mandatory too, but for me these five things and the brake system are the most important to do list parts. Once I got the full control over the bike - shocks, forks, tires, brakes - and she is protected a bit more as the OEM sh.... well... Next is the engine power and throwing away that ugly stock exhaust for sure! 😄

    @@braapt7 I couldn't agree more, I have essentially the same set up. Tyres/rally raid forks (also known as tractive as u know) revalved shock with 8.5kg spring, camel adv brake pedal and more (I won't bore you with details lol 🤣. But I completely understand why you've waited on the exhaust. When you do may I suggest you mate a camel adv high mount kit to a black widow muffler. The camel high mout kit and link pipe is expensive but very tough and well worth the effort of saving for it, while the black widow muffler is an excellent price (got mine for $300dollars (aussie dollars). and has proven to be as good as any of the over priced stuff from Akropovic or arrow. Anyways I'm gunna save watching your vids till I get home (I'm an interstate truck driver) where I can see them on the TV instead of trying to watch on my phone. Keep those vids coming m8 👍👍

    Totally agree, every bit of suspension upgrade is a treasure for this bike. The OEM forks and shocks are... not good enough. I think I will pick the MIVV high mount exhaust one day... not sure why, maybe I like the look and sound better. 🤷‍♀️ I never had a Barkbuster handguard, but since I got this SW-Motech one - I got this after I made this video -, I am pretty happy with them! 😀

    With this wide open air intake I would seriously consider a different ECU map. Otherwise your T7 might run with a too lean fuel/air mix now. And if you have a T7 with the monochrome dashboard take a look at the ABS Dongle from LSK to deactivate the rear ABS only.

  • @braapt7

    @braapt7

    Ай бұрын

    Thank you for the tips! ✋🙂 I was worried about the lean mix too, so I took it to the official Yamaha dealer where I bought my T7. It is owned by an ex-superbike championship rider, so I have trust in his team as well. They checked the bike's statistics, and they sad the bike runs on optimal fuel/air mixture. What would be the symptoms if they were not right? I mean, when I ride, what should I feel, what should I see on the bike's behavior? Getting hot early? Knocking piston? Less power? I am not experienced much in this with the CP2 engine, and I have no tools to measure it at home myself, so I have to trust in the service. :( ( in witch I always have doubt, no matter what. :D ) About the ABS... I don't trust the ABS at all. I would throw it out if the regulations wouldn't need it on the bike. I can feel the brake better, I can control the brake better without it, I tested it. Front and rear. In all surface conditions. Yes, I am that experienced rider. :)

    Thank you so much, I am really happy you liked it! =) Yes, chain guide is super important especially if you ride in deep ruts, forest with many branches and roots, also rocky terrain and other places where obstacles can mislead the chain on the rear sprocket. Yes, my riding skills come from many years of offroad riding. My father was a motocross rider, he teached me to ride when I was nine years old. I think this explains a lot. :D And I also ride offroad since ... many years now - few years out because work and family things -... (30) eeek....

Keep up the work, and just step by step, no rush it, because you must control the bike with subconscious muscle memory in so many changing environment. Riding offroad is wonderful and challenging. • @AE8

    From what I read it is expected for knobby front tires to cup of road due to heavy front brake use and cornering. Underdamped suspension is also mentioned as a cause for tire cupping. So I was curious if upgrading your suspension would help with the tire cupping. But I guess it is unavoidable.

I am sure this could be avoided some way, but since I ride mostly offroad for fun, and using the tarmac just to get there. =) And on offroad I don't feel any difference of this, and on road the knobbies are horrible anyway. 🤷‍♀🤷‍♀😂😂

    Sure thing, but be aware, it works only with the Off-the-road air filter! (due thickness of the foam edge and the metal rim on the OffTheRoad foam filter) And check the foam cover for 100% sealing. Also don't forget to add grease on the necessary places to prevent any dust leakage. (If you used dirtbikes with foam filter you already know, if not, watch some tutorials on youtube, or ask a friend about.) www.thingiverse.com/thing:5346706

    @@braapt7 thousand thanks for the file. I already have the OTR foam filter. Until now I used it with the OEM snorkel with grease and Twin Air Grand Price Nylon Cover, but I was afraid the seal wasn’t good enough. Now I can finally get a decent pre foam filter and seal it properly.

  • @braapt7

    @braapt7

    4 ай бұрын

     @AdventureWR I am happy I could help! ✋🙂 Here is how I use it: - I grease the bottom rim of the OffTheRoad filter's foam rim - after oil it with filter oil -, just to be 100% secure, put in place - grease the metal top of the filter yet again for 100% seal - put on the big part of the 3D printed cap, - look for right positioning - secure with OEM bolts (screws), main filter done. - wet the prefilter layer with filter oil, no grease this time (I use cca 4mm thick flat motorbike filter foam cut in shape including bolt holes). - finally put on the small rim and fix with 4 small metal sheet or wood screws. Beware, this part is non reversible, got it's fix orientation forward. I change the pre filter after every heavy dusty ride - I got several pre oiled prefilters in my bag prepared - and I clean the main filter only every two-three months, depends on the use of the bike.

    When I replaced the air filter I didn't notice anything, it just worked as before. Same easy start, same throttle reactions, same power, same engine temperature tolerance to heat and pressure. No strange noises. She was in the official Yamaha service already two times, and they told me, all measures are fine, nothing had to be set. I am sure if you are super sensitive to power and keen on more 2-3 HP to optimize the engine, it's better to set to perfect after the filter change, but for me it's good enough.

    so moderate offroad riding

  • @braapt7

    @braapt7

    2 ай бұрын

    Basically yes. Even at moderate difficulty off-road track is highly recommended to use these upgrades. However, really depends of the terms of "serious" and "moderate" definition. What I really meant, you can ride offroad just occasionally for fun with friends on dirtroads, backroads, whatever. For this purpose you don't need a real hardcore knobby tire, no need for expensive suspension, and if you usually ride on sand, you don't even need a stronger bashplate. But if you want to rider harder than this, aka: take the ride "seriously", then you will need many upgrades for safe and controlled ride. Here you can decide your riding level: hobby, moderate, expert, master, Pol Tarres level, etc. but for all of these serious rides you will need upgrades. And all of the possible upgrades these are my top five picks for safety, control and fun. What would be your top five pick?
