Tendon Nodules and How to Self Treat: Stability WOD 66

Спорт

New course if you want more: charlesmerrill.podia.com/reli...
Little nodules or hard bumps in the palm or fingers are common but are a sign of overuse in athletes who demand a lot of their hands. CrossFitters, Rock Climbers (and manual therapists) are especially vulnerable. The nodules can be broken down and healed with the right intervention. Healthy tendons mean better grip strength and performance at work or play. Here’s where to start to help yourself.

Just a word of caution - I have a nodule in the center of my palm below the ring finger and tried these and other exercises offered by this physio, and they made the nodule significantly worse. It's larger and actually painful now, where there had been no pain previously. As a rock climber, this is a huge bummer. Probably best to get your specific case checked out before you start messing with an undiagnosed nodule!

Perfect. Thank you. I’m a climber with a weeks old drywall slinging injury, middle finger below the A1. Basically we were flipping drywall overhead one side of the room to the other and my partner dropped his end two feet up from the floor. The climber in me grabbed at my high edge automatically, shock loading my tips to palm pinch, which led to some aggravation. I’ve rested since, and performing the palpation exercise and fingers to the wall exercise described, provided instant targeted relief to my pulley. It was so immediately profound that I believe these exercises will reduce and eliminate my palm pain problem.

Thank you very much. I've been sculpting stone for 20 yrs. Recently i've been usining an air hammer for longer periods- think strong gripping plus percussive feed back. Recently noticed a nodule in my palm which fits the bill and the excercise you outlined seems to help. Will have to reduce the impact the tool has on my hand. It's pretty essential, getting better results quicker whilst reducing the strain on a long suffering shoulder

My bump is almost gone just doing what you said to do ...just watching this twice in a row !!! This bump in my hand was new....but it was a bump with irritated inflamed hand tendons. Went to my Dr today about this bump and he said to just leave it alone. Thank you Very much !!! Both my parents had this and i was told it was hereditary.... I believed there was something I could do. I found your video and it has made a big improvement in my hand !!! Just doing this twice. I owned a balloon shop for 14 years ( Tied a billion balloons ) and then was a buffet server for 22 years after that ( In Las Vegas at a VERY busy buffet and served drinks and bused all my tables. Your video it the answer to my prayers and knowing their was a natural cure. Thank you from the bottom of my heart !!!

Absolutely loved your video! I have been working with my hands daily 8 hours for years, mainly using and gripping a manual cleaning roller needed for my type of manual work. A few weeks ago, within a couple of days or so, I noticed a lump under my right ring finger. Worried it could be something serious preventing me from working (self-employed), I found your video. I will use your stretching exercises and hope for the best. Thanks again.

Funny how these things seem to show up suddenly often. After years of repetitive tasks. Work on it and it will change. But also stay curious about the timing of "why now"? Keep watching for more on why pain and other tissue changes happen when the do. Thanks for the comment.

I crochet a lot and I recently learned a new way to hold the yarn while I work. I could feel the strain between index and middle fingers. I also pull a heavy cart home and up 2 flights of stairs, from the grocery store on occasions. I think that the crochet is the culprit, because I can sit for hours at a time. I took up knitting and holding the yarn to knit is very different. My thumbs also are weak and hurt if bumped against. Yes, I noticed the bump in the palm of my hand about an inch or so below the middle finger.. I'll try the exercises that you recommend, because I really don't want a cut happy doctor trying to open up anything to see what's there. I'm old, the joints don't work so well anymore. I'l also have to do more walking, I used to do that a lot, no choice, I don't drive. Retirement is good, but I sit too long crocheting, now learning to knit better.

MX accident impacted my right ring finger and it turned black and blue for a couple weeks, thought it healed and then a lump showed up months later on my palm inch below first joint on ring finger. I think mine may have come on using resistance bands - I have some questions, hope you don't mind responding. How many times would you do these excercises per day? I can't believe I found this video. Adam Ondra will like to know you, if he doesn't already.... This upload is spot on, and i've had my condition in my ringfinger tendon, in my hand, (proper) spread to numbness in the exact nerves from the neck down to there. My nodule is about 3/8 inch around, and looks like a blister. It doesn't hurt except occasionally that whole part of my left hand will have pain like arthritis or something, but it's only rarely, and doesn't last but ten minutes tops. It doesn't really bother me, but the numbness in my left forearm does sometimes, your video stretch just trying it for the first time has instantly helped with that damn numbness problem. I always thought it was a bone spur or something, but it's definitely a tendon thing, because the exact same spot on my right hand has a stringy tight tendon that could maybe be heading for similar problems. Obviously, you're diagnosis and therapy has nailed my problem perfectly. I'm definitely dealing with a neck injury that has haunted me with other annoyances before. Chiropractors scare me so i'm gonna use your simple therapy instead... i bet it's gonna work. You rock.... Thank you. Liked and subbed

I’m not getting much stretching my fingers also they’re going to release me in a few weeks so I’m glad I found your videos I’m not really convinced I have doing a contracture because there’s no history in my family whatsoever but my hand was closed because of an injury fall and it was like that for two years and I did perform fibers in my tendons and they right away so it was given a contracture right now I have a lot of scar tissue and I’m trying to break it up myself so thank you so much

Nice yes do what you can before having surgery. Working on the neck and shoulder is critical. And trauma and/or dysfunction to the neck and shoulder will create nervous system sensitivity resulting in problems in the hand. So take care of your neck and shoulders and I think you'll minimize the hand issues. Use the medical system to slow the progress too.

Sounds like the doc is right on. I have a similar situation but no progression because I actively work on it, stretch my tendons, and use my hands actively in many diverse ways. Use it or lose it! The more you “disturb” that nodule, the smaller it will stay and the less it will progress. All tissues are plastic (changeable) but most people neglect them so they get worse. Stay in touch.

Sounds very similar to a mild case of Celtic Hand, technically called Dupuytren's Contracture. If it is Celtic Hand, the nodules will eventually over the course of years form a chain down one or two fingers and pull them into a contraction (meaning you can no longer straighten the fingers all the way)

@@Casmige Dupuytren's Contracture is a totally different condition than Trigger Finger. Unfortunately, Dupuytren's is more like a disease process than an injury, it worsens over time, and has no actual cure. It can progress to the point where the affected fingers are permanently bent and can't be straightened. Trigger finger starts with the fingers while Dupuytren’s contracture stems from the palm. Dupuytren’s contracture involves the tissue, but trigger finger involves the tendons. Trigger finger is most common in the thumb, index finger, and middle finger. Dupuytren’s contracture is most likely to occur in the fourth finger and the pinky. Someone who has trigger finger can straighten the finger if they tried, but someone with Dupuytren’s contracture cannot. Whereas trigger finger is usually the result of an injury, the causes of Dupuytren’s contracture are not clear.

Hi I used a needle to stimulate a bump that I had in the terminal extensor tendon. Prior to doing this my finger would hurt if put my into my pocket for anything. It would send a nerve pain and hurt for a while. I poked around the bump and performed stretches only one time and the area Shrank in size tremendously. No more pain when retrieving things from my pocket. I will certainly try this technique again to make it even more smaller.

Sorry, two(ish) more questions... I seem to have multiple nodules in right hand and looks like 2 beginning cords, maybe a bone spur too. It seems to have advanced quickly from soft nodules to where it is now in just a few short weeks. My question is have you seen tendon involvement? I wonder if I’m massaging too forcefully. Should the needle be used on the tendon as well? Thanks, much appreciated. I am sharing your videos. This has been a big help!
