Cool thing about these kneaded eraser: they were originally created to clean wallpaper. Back in the day when great and lighting was coal fired the walls would collect the smudge. After we went to kerosene they no longer needed to clean the wallpaper. So the guys sister, who was a school teacher, suggested he altar the product a little. Make some softer and add color for the kids in her class to play with. While the original design remained as an eraser.

It's always great when an old product gets repurposed into something new. And I'm glad they did for kneaded erasers! Thanks for the trivia - I didn't know that.

Hi, Becky! A quick tip for your Caran D'Abche 'chopping board'. It should come clean if you use a wet toothbrush and toothpaste, just as you would for cleaning your teeth. If the stain's really stubborn, leave the toothpaste on for a few minutes and then scrub it off with the toothbrush. This works on plastic palettes, too, btw, and as a bonus, will also stop the paint beading up. I've looked at the roll-on double sided tape, but am comme-ci / comme-ca about it, because we can't get refills for them, and in the long run, I think that the plastic waste would probably be a little more than the plastic backing on a roll. The other down side is that once on, it doesn't come off, and I'm one of those who quite often needs to reposition something. Jam jars - so glad that you mentioned those!!!! They all have lids, so the pet problem's easily solved! Those big double pots: is there any way of emptying just one side, when the dirty water needs changing but the 'clean' side is fine? And so to my weakness: white ceramics!!!! I have quite a collection of 'Allsorts', which I use for teaching reflected light and choosing our own colour palette, as well as shapes, shadows, and more... Having so much is no hardship! I began the collection before I went back to art seriously, simply because I love the feel, shape, beauty of white / off-white old ceramics! I'm resisting the ceramic palettes simply because In have absolutely no space to store them. At present, most of my ceramics are still in boxes as so far, I still haven't found someone to put up the shelves for them and I can't do it myself as the walls are cloisonné (not solid, but hollow grids about 5cms deep and 5cm hollow cubes. They need special grips and are restricted for weight-bearing. Such a bore!!!!! But maybe it's just as well, as I could easily be tempted to buy more white ceramics!!! I have the Dahle pencil sharpener, too! Mine has a little thing on the back where the handle joins the sharpener, which you turn to make the point longer or shorter. I tend to keep mine half-way (oddly, there are no numbers and you have to work it out by trial and error at first!), so I don't end up wasting pencil with mega-long points. Maybe yours has one, too? I can't find a smudge-glove small enough for my hands, so I think I may follow your tip and see if I can find some cheap cotton gloves to adapt. It's less about keeping my hand from smudging the paper and more about keeping my hands warm doing plein air in the cold weather! I see how well Sarah Burns manages with her chunky mittens / fingerless gloves (jealous!), but maybe it's because my hands are so small, and gloves in general are too big for me, and children's, just that bit too small... BTW, I now use BluTack as a putty rubber, and so do my students. Works just as well and loads cheaper! But I used to use Faber Castell or Lyra (I tried other brands, but those were my favourites!). So yes, more 'useful items', please!!! 😊

Thank you! My main gripe with jam jars is that I knock them over quite often (I'm very clumsy, lol), and I find the square Mont Marte pots have a much lower centre of gravity, and they don't knock as easily. Also because they're brightly coloured I can see them better, haha. But jars are fine; I do use them quite a lot as well. Probably no way to remove only the dirty water from a double chambered pot unless it is siphoned. I love ceramic dishes, and I have to stop myself buying more as well, because there are so many - we share that problem! 😂 I'll try giving the board a scrub with some toothpaste, thanks! I'm thinking Jif will probably work as well. I just switched to a new toothbrush so I have a spare old one now, yay! Oh yes, and I found a glue tape that actually has refills available! The first ones I got didn't and I still can't bring myself to chuck them out, so I shopped around and my local stationery store has their home brand one which is quite cheap and also has the refill cartridges which are much smaller and less wasteful. I'm happy about that. 😊

I have 3 of the Caran D’Ache palettes and gave them to my daughter and bestie last year as gifts with some Inktense pencils…which is how I use them the most. Whether mixing a few pencils for a shade I need and don’t have-OR: I’ve come to rely on inktense for permanent backgrounds/under-paintings. But..they’re obviously limited in colors…so, I started experimenting..using a minimum of 50/50 of inktense + your choice of professional watercolor; STILL gives you a permanent background. Some of the granulating colors can be tricky and you might need more inktense. I just ordered some of the new colors..my Christmas gift to myself this year, from Jackson’s since I still can’t find them here. I’ve come to rely on them for almost all my styles-I’ve even used them on xuan paper for a traditional painting-trying out a newer way of painting a peony that requires an underpainting. Using my traditional paint chips..I just wasn’t getting the vibrant, more realistic look the artist was getting..so, I tried inktense…it’s still not exactly like the Master’s..but, that’s why he’s the Master and I’m still just a baby student. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️.QUESTION on the uniballs-did you try them on hot press? I LOVE my uniballs, I have 3-4 different kinds, sizes & colors; HOWEVER, I normally only use them in my planners, occasionally in my journal..although I used my .37..whatever the extra extra fine one is, for cats whiskers a few weeks ago. I had just “re-organized” and couldn’t find my microliners. (STILL missing a brand new tube of Burnt Sienna..HOW does someone LOSE a 15ml tube?! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂. And Dr Kitty Leela swears she didn’t steal it so..🤷🏼‍♀️). Anyways, my uniball worked perfectly..it was on cold pressed, but I drew on top of the DRY paint-as a finishing touch..not on just white, clean paper. I’m going to add yours to my list. I’m also asking about hot press for a reason..I just ordered some. I’ve only been doing Western WC for about 2 1/2 years, and I’d always used cold press or rough. I’ve been working on a rather “strange”, not usually my style, painting, for months..cold press just isn’t doing it. It’s kind of semi-abstract, kind of cartoonish, VERY detailed..my daughter and her wonderful wife are sitting with their arms around each others, watching my 2 grand-fur babies, in a dream, playing a Panjo and bongo drum, wearing country-fried clothes (overalls & farm hat..prairie dress). Yes..I know 😂. I have a strange brain…what’s left of it at my age anyways. There’s a few other things in the background..but, Something just doesn’t look right on the cold press and my bestie said she thinks this style is more fitting on hot press. Lots of fine line detail, some that will be directly on the paper, not on painted spots. I need the strings of the Panjo to stay VERY fine, no bleeding. Let me know if you think it would work!😊

That's a really interesting idea mixing Inktense with watercolours - I may just need to try this at some point! They are very good for having a permanent non-lifting underpainting, for sure! The Uniballs generally work well on both hotpress and cold press paper. The only exception is the Hahnemuhle sketchbook I'm working in, where the Uniballs feather so badly on it, and I'm forced to use fineliners only on that paper. It's super annoying and I'm totally over it! But other cotton papers like Fabriano and Saunders etc should be fine with the Uniballs. I hope you find your Burnt Sienna soon! I've lost large tubes of paint before as well, lol. 😂

I've been having a good time sharpening my pencils with the Dahle, and it saves a lot of wrist pain which I experienced with the tiny twisty ones. They're fine for a single pencil, but a whole box of coloured pencils is a different story, haha! The two well pots are quite prevalent on Amazon, and they come listed under all sorts of brand names, but they're exactly the same. They must all come from one factory. 😂

The ultra micro ones are harder to find but yes the rollerballs last a lot longer than fineliners. They're great to use! 😊

Do you reckon that a small cheap chopping board with a rough surface could work just as well as the Caran dache one? I have a couple spare from IKEA only because they sell in set of 3 and I only needed one!

It's worth a try! I mean the Caran d'Ache one really does look and feel like a slim chopping board. I just haven't got any spare ones to test on, but if you try it out I'd love to hear if it works! 😊

I have a Derwent crank sharpener and I love it, but it does bite the pencil. I think it does more damage to my Prismacolors, with the small core, than it does to Faber Castell or Derwent and I care less about the Prismas. It actually sharpens the Prismas to a very sharp point as well, so I'm not complaining.

I can't deal with the bitey ones. I was almost in tears when I saw what the blue sharpener did to one of my Luminance pencils. 😭 I'd cry over the Prismas too, although that's more because they break so easily anyway, lol.

You can snap the glue tape applicator if you press too hard

Sorry but it's a thumbs down from me and I won't be watching this video. Multiple KZreadrs have tried to sell me this handbag and none of them make fashion content.

Too bad you didn't watch the video! The bag part was short and concise and the rest of the video was awesome and full of great tips 😊
