No it is not new. Especially for murder. Let alone of a police officer. See people are misled to think every place has some sort of bail reform laws when most places don't. And even if they do 1st and 2nd degree murder charges are not eligible for release without bail. Bail not only varies from state to state, people will still get bail if they are charged with murder. But it depends. And even if they aren't granted bail at first, they could still be later. Then it could be extremely high or low.

Our current death penalty is no good. That said, they likely have overwhelming proof this punk is guilty and could even get him to confess. Once he does, hang him in public. Or give him the chance to hang himself. No other options. I say this as a cop auditor and recovering addict.

...I have a personal connection to this unfortunate incident as I once worked there as an officer. It's a very dangerous section of the city. Backup isn't ever very far but in seconds that count it's never really close. Being close to one of the best trauma hospitals in the city is great for when seconds count but unfortunately you only have minutes to get there. Every hospital in Philly is conveniently located 4 min apart using lights and siren...but Unfortunately it only takes 3 minutes to bleed out. My prayers and heartfelt sorrow go out to the officers family and loved ones and also to the terrible loss the Department is experiencing with his loss. It will be a heavy weight to carry as we move forward. God Bless.

@Darrell Roberson You do realize how qualified immunity works right? It just means if you are JUSTIFIED You can't be sued civilly. You can still be sued if you're in the wrong. That's why it's called QUALIFIED immunity. Judges have what's called absolute immunity because they can't be civilly sued for anything.

The police department tight-lipped. This poor soul's life had a family, was a father, grandfather, son, nephew, etc. Totally disregarded...
