If there's one thing that's as scary as the song/trial, it's the entire dialogue exchange that happens before. It's INCREDIBLY mean-spirited. -0:32 (Mrs. Banks gaslights the children and makes excuses for Mr. Banks' actions) -0:47 until 1:09 (Mrs. Banks has ZERO tolerance for the children being honest about what they think of their father but she lets him verbally abuse her) -1:10 until 1:25 (Mary snarls at the children and grounds them to their room for everything they say but never does anything about Mr. Banks' cruel behavior toward his children and wife) -1:33 until 1:55 (The children bully each other) Before you reply, I know the story takes place in 1910 and is meant to be as dark as the books rather than the beloved film, but considering how the musical is supposed to teach POSITIVE LESSONS to children, both the children AND Mr. Banks should receive equal consequences from Mary--otherwise, the musical's message of respect for elders turns into a message of allowing others to be abusive (and the message of how 'anything can happen' gets drowned out).

I'm shocked that they're taking out Temper Temper! I saw this on Broadway last year and though it turned my blood to ice there in the theater I still can't help but love it. There are plenty of shows that you should NOT take children to. People need to show a little bit of common sense. I wouldn't even take a kid under four to ANY Broadway play, no matter how Disney-fied it is.

What I wouldn't do to see THIS live!! While I can understand how it might scare young children, that is why they put up a warning. The compaining parents are the ones who didn't listen. They were expecting the Julie Andrews Mary Poppins. The book's Mary Poppins is much darker and more stern.

The things that are done in "Temper, Temper" are not things Mary Poppins would do. The things that happen in it are something that a villian like Maleficient or Jafar would create not Mary Poppins. My sister didn't like the song when she saw it in London. Also, my friend, who's 26 and will be seeing the show this month, heard about how frightnening "Temper, Temper" was and was glad it was replaced. I didn't mind "Playing the Game" when I saw the show.

It's toy story all over again. This is so creepy
Honestly, I think Temper Temper and Playing The Game are essentially the same. The songs are different, but the meanings, dances and general atmospheres are just about identical.

Also, the chord progressions and some of the melodies
Oh my lord that was amazing
thx for posting it. i miss temper, temper. now it is playing the game. i guess they are the same.
This wasn't that scary to me when I saw it, actually. I really liked it live. Wish that they didn't decide to cut this, though. I feel bad for those who never got to see it live. It was good.
Dud!! This part was so awesome!!!
I still don't really understand why people seemed absolutely fine with the idea of Mary Poppins locking someone in a cage and sending them down to hell...and it's the giant toys that /really/ freak them out... Really? This is basically the same as Woody and co. freaking out Sid in Toy Story 1!
Sean McCourt!! :D I met him on the Wicked: Behind the Emerald Curtain, and he was the original father in Wicked and soon replaced as the Wizard. And after the tour, we got to see him in this!! He's soo funny and nice. He met us at Stage Door after and remembered us. I love him!! He's Awesome.. PS: He's the jack in the box :P
Sucks that I saw Playing the Game! This is much better! THANKS 4 POSTING!
I think it was. I went to see the musical on broaday when I was seven and they played this song.
When i saw this live it was soooo amazing and in your face which made it scary as hell lol
"Playing the Game" will be added to the Broadway production on Ocgtober 12 when Christian Borle and Laura Michele Kelly join the cast.
I agree. It was really good song. =]
@Jojo72897 I saw the show last night in Boston. Sure it would of been great to see Temper Temper, but you have to admit that it was still great to see Playing The Game. They are both amazing songs and it was amazing hearing Playing The Game, and I am grateful to be hearing either during the show.
Temper Temper was a great song, but I think that Playing The Game is just as scary since it's just as nightmarish as Temper was.
I am at the last audishin for jane bankes!!!!!
This is a lot scarier than Playing the Game! Valentine is wayyy more creepy!
I was ten too!! haha I still get weird dreams about it sometimes...... Whats more annoying then them changing the song (which does bother me:) is that they are closing the show today. I'm soooo upset!!!!!

NYCprincess7 Something similar happened to me! I was about 5 I think and I dreamt about the song. There weren’t any of the toys, just some random disguised people. A few years after, I had forgotten what the song was and I discovered it was Temper Temper when I was listening to the soundtrack again many years after that
I was front row during this show. This scene was scary..
Dear god
I remeber seeing this in London when it came out when I was 10 and this scared the crap out of me! But no I love it...but playing the game is a worthy replacement :D
I did Mary Poppins when I was eight and I was valentine but it wasn’t this it was called playing the game
@Jojo72897 I saw the show with that same song. It was a little bit on the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang side, which was also a shermen bros show.
I saw this when I was about 11 and it was sooo scary! But I loved it as well! Must have been a dark child :P
What I wouldn't do to see THIS live!! While I can understand how it might scare young children, that is why they put up a warning. The compaining parents are the ones who didn't listen. They were expecting the Julie Andrews Mary Poppins. The book's Mary Poppins is much darker and more stern.
I saw this and I actually crapped my pants😂
OMG my school and I saw this in January on Broadway, but only with that other song. This was creepy too 0_0
Guuuiiilllttyyyyyy!!!!!!
i’m playing jane right now and i’m so disappointed they cut this number :( playing the game is cool but it has nothing on temper temper
Manny I need you guys
The house is like a the doll house Janes has. It opens and the sets show up and the house opens like opening a book. I think theres a video on 190 north on youtube about marry poppins
LOL! Sean McCourt! "SURPRISE!'
i saw it in chicago and the house is a pop-up house
i haven't seen the play yet, but i have the soundtrack and this is my fav song from it...my friend told me that they replaced it with some milder song...i'm disappointed, this song is teaching the children a lesson...and the books were a little darker than the movie starring Julie Andrews...it would've been nice if they kept the song in and paid homage to the original story.
@KandiKane791 Im pretty sure Jane is Katherine Doherty and Micheal is Henry Hodges. :) But, im not sure about Henry it might be Matthew Gumley.
Larry Poppins. Larry Poppins: you two will stay in your room and never come out until someone calls you! Michelle: but but but we! Larry Poppins: no buts that's all it takes, and if you won't be good you might just as well get nothing! John: Pooh i don't care about that, and that's final! Larry Poppins: you must control your temper!
@littleladysonic *Dutch production of the play Forgot to add that part in.
@juicyluvRgurl I believe it is Katherine Doherty!! :)
why did they skip up the temper, temper, temper etc at the beginning? where they get louder and louder
yea i like playing the game but at least they still had most of the same dance moves, but with Marry Poppins singing too.
Can u upload more of this? Like it's cut off at the end type of thing? :) xx
Playing the game is equally as chilling and carries over a lot of the shock value but the song is definitely anemic compared to this masterclass in child nightmare fuel
yes they should bring it back!!!! and a petition needs to be started asap!!
LOL! Check out the joker judge when the nursery is returning back 2 normal! So freaky!!! XD
this puts playing the game to shame
I thought playing the game was scary but this is legit creepy and sounds like a home invasion
Hahaa, it's a great song!! When I saw it, I was in the second row, and the Frankenstein guy was creeping me out cuz he was always glaring at me, lol!! :) And sadly Im 13... but he was just creepy :)
I just saw this at the cadillac palace in chicago, and they REPLACED IT!!! THEY FREAKIN REPLACED IT with something called PLAYING THE GAME, with the same tune of temper temper but kid friendly!!1 Mary Poppins was just talking to Valentine and the toys did nothing but sway in a friendly fashion. All the others were there, the judge, glamour doll, and the jack in a box....I'M SO MAD!!! I just got back from it. I'm not lying!!!
did they take this song out i hope they did it was so scary and really had to point to it
don't have enough time. Anyway do you know if they took it out?
Replaced?? I saw this May 2nd, and now it's replaced?? With what!??!?!?! :O
This is surprisingly creepy!
@TheSlushie9 Michael Gummley and Katherine Doughtry!
I remember watching this as a 4 year old and practically shitting myself lmao
Anyone who has a recording of 'Precision And Order'? Not the one that Mr. Banks sings, that is; the one that the accountants sing at the bank. The slightly twitchy, jerky, neurotic tune.
@meghan428 I know the book is much darker, but this is the kind of scene a villain would create.
@boffinme80 I see. Well, the only thing we can do is just hope they bring this song back someday. I like it better than Playing The Game as well.
did they romove this song or not? because im going to see it on thursday and i will be sorely dissappointed if it has been cut!
It's Playing the Game, it's more like a lullaby and Mary sings most of it...and the rest of the toys don't really do anything, including the judge, glamour doll and jack in the box and Valentine.
What position was this filmed from?
does anyone know what actor played Valentine??????

the Jack-in-the-Box really had a sad face in the song temper temper.
