In English it is half past an hour rather than half to the hour. Goedenavond.

So when talking about time in the video, in Dutch, you say half to the next hour, e.g., half (voor) twee or 1.30, if translated to English, would be half an hour before 2 o'clock. In England, we would say half one or half past one o'clock

  • @EasyDutch

I see. In English 1.30 is "half past one", referring to 1. In Dutch 1.30 is "half two" (half twee), referring to the next hour. We do not say "half to two" (would be "half voor twee").

Yeah since I have been working in and with an UK branch at work I’ve come to found out myself too. When they say half 1 they mean 1330 where I thought 12.30. Resulted in some miscommunications in the beginning 😂.
