    Squire is the way to go with a tele these days...especially the classic vibe option, excellant instrument for a fraction of the price of the fender branded instrument that's not much better...keep in mind that teles were first introduced to be very simple and affordable instruments to he utilized by traveling musicians so they had to be tough too, and they are... the simple truth is that squire now builds guitars that rival the mothership fender in every way...squire is not a joke anymore but a well respected maker of quality instruments..

    With the Strats, if the tremolo is important to you, Affinity is the way to go. It really is a question of preference (especially with the price bump because of Various Factors in the newest Bullets from $149 to 169). Bullet has a hardtail and the pre-CBS headstock, it also has a thinner neck and a thinner finish on the neck to the point that it practically feels like it's a sanded neck rather than finished with any kind of lacquer at all. Affinity has a CBS headstock, tremolo, and a smooth satin finish.

    Haha!! :) I actually bought the Affinity BSB about 10 years ago. After I initially set it up, the only thing I've done to it is change the strings on occasion. Stays in tune well, and played through a Marshall MG 15 watt amp, sounds as good as my friend's American made tele, so he says. It is a bear to restring, so wish it did have the string-through body, but...no biggie. And, none of my other 5 guitars have the skunk stripe, so again...no biggie. :)

    It seems to me like the sound on the Affinity it's more well balanced like a real Fender, the bullet pickups are hotter got more treble and sound more metallic. I'll say if you want something more like a vintage Tele that'll be definitely the Affinity. Maybe it got to do with the body and the neck been thicker too. It definitely sounds warmer that the Bullet. I got an original 1953 that was originally my dad's and a 1971 that I got in the mid 80's as a present from my dad too :)

    I appreciate the fact that you played these guitars clean in order to get a truer tone from them. Too many reviewers start off with a huge overdriven sound, which is all about the amp, and not the guitar. Both of these guitars are a pretty good bargain, IMO.

    Having just bought an identical Bullet here in the States, I am please with it. I have done a full set-up and intonation, dressed the frets, etc... I am so pleased with it. Listening to what you have played, I am liking the Bullet considerably more than that Affinity. I am a Squier fan, especially of heavily modified ones. This was my first Tele, and I am really happy with my spur of the moment purchase. As to your review, I am biased, but like others, I am heavily leaning toward the Bullet. It seems to be the much better deal.

    Knowing this is an old video, I still wanted to chime in! I recently bought a Bullet FSR in butterscotch blonde and immediately took it apart when I got home. With the neck off, I sanded it with 3000 grit sandpaper and cleaned up the fret ends with a file. I then covered all routed cavities with copper foil tape, as well as the backside of the pick guard. Will eventually upgrade the potentiometers from dime size Alphas to full size CTS ones and replace the tone cap with a better quality one. The aforementioned is a vastly cheaper step of upgrades than replacing the pickups straight out the gate. Cheers!

  • @johnnorth9355
    @johnnorth93556 жыл бұрын

    The Bullet has more treble which makes it sound crisper but the Affinity would probable give a wider range overall but nothing a set of pedals would not sort out - or even bit of knob twirling on a quality amp. In either case they are perfectly usable but I am hankering after upgrading my Affinity's pickups and suspect I would do the same on either of these. Great run through as always Rob.

    What would be good pickups to upgrade to, I have the affinity and what I really like to upgrade are the tuners but cuz trying to tune it is a little too much fun... I use to have a fender katana and I remember whenever I tuned it it was always so precise, but when I tuned this one it moves all over the place. Doing some research I’m finding it might be cuz of the tuners but no one really recommends any specific tuners for the affinity... I’m jut curious about the pick ups tho, they sound ok to me

The bridge on my bullet already has pretty worn out screws, it would be worth replacing the bridge and tuners. the affinity to my ears, sounds a bit thinner overall but more of a general wash of sound. if you can tweak the bullet to your liking, it is like a firecracker!

    Of the best squire comparisons on youtube. My vote goes on the affinity. More fat and sounds much better on the pumkins song you play. The bullet sounds more thin and shrill to my ears- a pickup upgrade is a must there IMO. Good work dude

    I've owned over 20 guitars, US and Mexican Fenders, Musicmans, Hohners, Yamahas etc and, I've just picked one of these up. What can I say, it's simply fantastic, superb quality....amazing action, proper tele twang on the bridge and warm on the neck pups, beautiful finish, keeper. Mine is an Indonesia 2018 built tele. Beinf the Affinity its slightly thinner not a bad thing makes its lighter. Comfortable to play standing and lovely when sitting which surprised me. Obviously butterscotch, maple neck with black pick guard is THE classic combination.

    I've always had a sweet spot for a Telecaster and I owned the Affinity and sold it to a friend. When the Bullet came out I bought one today. It all comes down to one thing, if you are a good guitar player you can make anything sound good. With the Bullet Telecaster you can upgrade the guitar as you get better so why spend ten times the amount when you can upgrade the electronics and pickups for far less than buying a American made Telecaster? The Bullet sounds good enough to gig with right out of the box. If you do research you'll find that the old vintage Telecasters are not as well made as the Squire models of today.

    I have three U.S.A Fender Telecaster and in my opinion the Affinity is definitely much closer to the Tele sound. The Bullet model is nice but has a very different sound from the classic Tele. I tried the models of two of my students (on an Fender '65 Twin Reverb and a cheap Champion 100) and if you want a cheap Tele with the typical sound the Affinity is perfect. They have different pick ups and electronic parts (Affinity China are superior) of the body and neck. However aesthetically the Bullet is very good.

    One of the biggest differences between those two guitars is the nut width. The bullet is wider than the affinity. I own a fender starcaster with the smaller width nut and it's for sale right now because of that. I did play it and it was fine..then I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II with a wider nut..and now I can't get the D Major chord without touching a string and messing it up!

But in the room that could have translated into the Bullet being a bit too bright and thin and the Affinity being the better of the two guitars. Two questions 1. You shot this video 15 months ago - but can you remember which guitar sounded better to you in the room - and why? 2. Regardless of which guitar you preferred - could you tell the sound difference between which guitar was string through and which was Toploader?? Thanks.
