    I have both sets, the HF Pittsburgh Pro and the Tektons. The HF sockets are every bit as good and half the price, but like you said they are missing some sizes so I ended up buying the Tektons as well.

    yes the tektons are a cheap taiwanese cr-v brand, similar to pittsburgh. EPAuto in amazon sells a lot of the same exact sets for half price. Still good product either way though.

    I must say, I love quality of the harbor freight. I bought all those 13pc sets shallows and deep and have used them. They have lasted against the Milwaukee 2767 1400 ft lb of torque impact gun and my air gun they fit snugly on bolts with little slop. Honestly I have snap on impact sockets, in 3/8 and I guess I had too high of expectations.... i use them on a stubby Milwaukee m12 impact gun and have found they are softer... as in I can notice them wearing out... and its average use... They cost nearly 500ish I wanna say and honestly I prefer the harbor freight.....

    I have quit a few Harbor freight tools. My impacts have been great no injection molded case but I use socket rails anyway for my toolbox. I have had no complaints! They work as advertised take my mower blades off 2x a week. I have broken several wrenches and sockets of HF, but they have replaced it with a new off the shelf the way craftsman used to. Even though each one I broke I was using cheater bars or reefer bars totally my fault. At the end of the day, I am all about finding the best value and a tool that will last. Now there is a lot of garbage or 1x use tools at HF not saying they are Snapon etc. Just not everything they have is junk! :) Now with that said I really like the Tektons case and labeling on each socket and it gives you the full array of sizes and not just the most popular. I think a set like that would be awesome to keep on the trailer for emergency repairs, tire changes, or that dreaded in the field blade change. My toolbox in the trailer is basically an old milk crate so toolsets that come in cases are awesome. No one has time to chase tools around a trailer!

    Yeah you are right.... the hand tools with the lifetime warranty are my go to tools now. With the exchange hassle with craftsman ( might be my sears here in town) they seem to hold up very well and when they do break hassle free exchange. Now the Matco and Snap on tools I do have are much better quality, but no longer work in a shop enviroment with a weekly truck visit.

    I HATE the blow molded cases! Gets 5-6 tools and your box is full cases instead of tools! Gimme a decent rail for my sockets so I can see and grab what I need, quickly!

    I like that tekton at least provides it. If you don't want it, throw it away. But for what I do the blow molded cases are nice, keeps dust and dirt out of the sockets.

    Nice set. I bought the HF deep impacts and you're right. They are missing the 12 mm I think it was that I needed. I also bought the pro short ones and they look nice too. What I hate about the deep impacts is that it's very hard to see the numbers. They are stamped which is nice, but with the black it's still hard to see them. I went ahead and painted them white with the white marker you can also get at HF. Guess what, once you have oil and grease, they went back to black. Now for the laser markings like yours, well, that's even worse. Over time with a lot of use, laser marking will vanish, then you will be back to what the HF look like. We can't win until they figure out a better way to make sure the stamping is large and painted a bright color. I think that's the only way. Other than that, the HF has been fine. But I guess the guy putting the kits together was pissed off or something so he got back by screwing us all and not including the most common numbers. I also need a short 24 which is not in the short set, so I used the deep at least, but still. They got some weird thing going on with those skips.

    Chrome moly are typically stronger without being as bulky. Sometimes the Chrome Vanadium impact sockets are too big (wide) to do the job. Look into OEMTOOLS for decent, affordable cr-mo impact socket sets.

  • @richstevens5727

    Many brands of "impact sockets". The difference between impact sockets and regular sockets is the thickness of the wall. The extra thickness allows the user to perform more rigorous tasks and apply higher levels of torque without worrying about breaking the socket. You can use impact sockets for regular jobs but you shouldn't use regular sockets for tasks that call for or recommend impact sockets as the amount of force needed to remove or apply is more than should be used for regular sockets.

  • @jamesf9610
    @jamesf96105 жыл бұрын

    Great sockets no doubt but one thing to keep in mind that really thick wall you like so much for being strong will also keep you from getting some aftermarket especially rims. They are too thick to go inside the lug holes and if you can get them in and they are snug your gonna destroy that wheel. Don't get me wrong I agree these are great quality sockets just keep in mind those certain occasions

    Impact sockets should be made of Chrome Moly (Co Mo) printed on it. If they are not Chrome Moly they are not impacts. Chrome Moly material takes the impact shock and the metal molecules are somewhat flexible. Chrome Vanadium is a hard material and can shatter.
