Tekki Shodan
All kata were designed to be a complete self defense system and the Tekki/Naihanchi are among the oldest and most effective. They include blocks, strikes, traps, throws, holds, pressure points, etc. Here is a great collection of applications to Tekki Shodan. Please 'Like' and subscribe. As always, I am interested in your comments and questions. You can leave them below or email me at gimberline@hotmail.com Thanks so much to Scott Parkin of the Shu Ha Ri Institute for hosting these classes while also filming and editing!

Thanks for showing what the Kata means most people think kata is just a dance with no meaning.
Fantastic applications!
very realistic Kata Application and a little bit of Kyusho Jitsu
👍👌✌️
Excellent !
good ideas, thanks for sharing
Excellent
We do the check-pass-trap-hit in Filipino Arnis and Shorin Ryu. The styles work well together.
The two white-haired guys that first appear center screen at 1:15 are not just a couple of nice old farts. They are very experienced karate-ka who are not to be messed with, and quite out-rank Dave. Yet they very happy to learn from him.
thank you for sharing
Excellent explanation
Excellent and very realistic for street defense
Sehr gut
Very realistic than any other instructor videos i have seen, can this be practiced with my training partner? Who also knows this kata.
At 9:55, instead of using the tip of the thumb, you also can try to flex in the last member of the thumb and hit the spot with the first knuckle of your thumb. It depends a bit on the size of your own hand/fingers, which one works better.

Nice in Okinawa where people don't wear heavy winter mitts. Fine motor skills and such are problematic in combat under stress situations.
It's been said that the 3 Tekki forms could be a complete system by themselves.

I agree,
Makes more sense out of Tekki than anything else I have seen. The old JKA applications look very lame compared to this.

With complete respect to sensei Gimberline, you could also see sensei John Burke (on KZread) and, also, sensei Vince Morris. I first saw sensei Vince Morris, on VHS, in about 1996. Same attitude. So yeah, why don't more of us teach real karate?

Les katas ont une origine religieuse .il faut le savoir
Unfortunately the bunkai has nothing to do with this kata. All kata are a symbolic posture. Judo is the most practical when it comes to bunkai because every kata in judo is basically a real technique with the exact application. Shotokan or other schools kata is totally out of reality you have to make up stupid things to explain. You don't even need to know the kata to apply these technique.
