I'd be interesting in seeing a video on the various Wrestlers Tekken has had. Since Each has had their own influences (ie King/Armor King being homages to Tiger Mask and modern day WWE, JC being more a luchadora, or Marduk being a Brock Lesner type MMA wrestler)

Eddy gordo and Wang Jinrei. Because both of them are the most famous practitioners of their martial art, despite being fictional. I have a deep reverence for Mestre Bimba and Mestre Pastinha, the legendary originators of Capoeira Regional and Capoeira Angola respectively, but Eddy is the reason I got into capoeira and many other people share my origin story.

Both Lei and Feng are based on Hung Gar, just in different directions, Feng is more focused on internal form like Tid Sin Kuen(Iron Wire Fist), wich contain all the twelve bridges, and Lei on Five Animals techniques and(probably) Fu Hok Seung Ying Kuen(Tiger and Crane Combined Fist) created by Wong Fei Hung, wich contains moves from Jeui Kuen(drunken fist).

One thing I've always loved about tekken and why I rank it as GOAT of all fighting games is how much realism they put into to the martial arts of the characters. You can't blast a Hadooken from from SF, Do a hell port or Bicycle kick from MK but most tekken movesets can be done irl. Hats off to Harada to creating the most realistic fighting game outside EA's UFC and Fight Night titles👏🏽👏🏽

I practice Hung Gar kung-fu for 14 years. You totally nailed the important points. THOUGH, a purist might add that Hung-Gar is the '' formal '' fusion of the Tiger and Crane Style. Raw power and speed from the tiger form, fluidity and precision from the Crane......The irony being that i main Jin ( BUT ! Karate comes from the Crane Style )

It's so wild to me that Bruce Lee is a character archetype and a fighter archetype, and there's so many Bruce Lee's out there that sometimes I forget that he was real man not that long ago. You've got your Shoto, zoner, rushdown, grappler, stoic hero, old master, evil doppelganger, and Bruce Lee. Icon.

7:24 "In reality though, you'll probably never see [Drunken Fist] work outside of games and movies." The closest we've got to a "drunken master" in combat sports was the legendary Emanuel Augustus, a boxer with a record that belies his insane skill (he gave Floyd Mayweather one of his hardest fights ever, something Mayweather himself has readily acknowledged). The dude was simultaneously unorthodox, erratic, slick, and precise, literally dancing in and out of range and swaying into odd angles to land killer blows and avoid damage. He's really worth checking out.

Top job Arya... This is the video I’ve been wanting to make myself for years. My obsession with Tekken began back in the days of Tekken 1 as I was always a huge fan of old kung fu movies.... Tekken just represented it perfectly and I felt like I was in charge of my own kung fu movie while playing.. Feng is my main as he is practically the embodiment of my two favourite martial artists Bolo Yeung & Jet Li. But I love all the characters that are based off real styles... Sadly the waters have been very muddied over the years with more and more of the magic based characters and animals etc... but I just tolerate them as the silly stuff has always been a part of Tekken. Anyways would love to see more of these videos exploring the other styles in Tekken...

The animations seemed a lot smoother and had a nice fluidity to them too - particularly in Tekken 2 If you set graphics aside and compare the fighting animations of Tekken 2 against the modern Tekken games I actually think Tekken 2 looks a lot better.... I think that’s partly because everything is sped up to an unnatural level in modern Tekken and it looks less realistic and more choppy as a result...

Toph Bei Fong earth bending moves is largely based upon Ba Ji Quan who rely on solid postitions with arms barely elongating from the chest and a lot of short footwork. On the other hand Hung Gar (wich i've practiced for some years) rely heavely upon the tiger/crane variation of the moves with powerful "paw and claw" strikes and elegant kicks, more similar to some of the fire bending moves.

In Avatar, I agree that Hun Gar inspired the Earth bending style in general. But Toph, the blind girl showed in the video here, had a very personal style of Earth bending that I think was inspired by southern style praying mantis: very compact stance and movements, with lots of internal work (not to be confused with Northern style praying mantis, which looks very different!). Thoughts, anyone?
