Just in case you’ve come straight to the comments and not watched the video yet. We had mechanical issues that stoped our automatic 4WD from engaging, the problem has now been resolved. We’ve never had a problem with taking the car and van on the Beach before this, and were unaware that was had no 4WD after the truck was lifted. But everything’s sorted now. Thanks for watching 😃

These off road vans have a wider wheel track than most towing vehicles. Like towing an anchor in soft sand.

Don't let this put you off sand driving guys. I have the same model Effy, with a Northstar Camper on the back, and it's practically unstoppable on sand. Been on Moreton Island many times, Fraser Island, Stockton Beach, and even been across the Simpson. The Effy is an awesome tourer and a great 4X4. Cheers.

Guys all of us have been there. You can buy a maxtracks for your jockey wheel to tow it. Also your winch should be nearly out as this is the most powerful & not damaging anything Good on you Guys Cheers

We replaced the vacuum seals, the bearings and the some of the steering components, then I pulled the front wheels off to remove the locked hub caps(stupid that they couldn’t be removed without taking the wheel off) To access the hubs so I can lock manually! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 it’s performs better in round 2 of Teewah beach

Wow oh wow! What an ordeal.

And I thought I had a hard week!

We’ll done guys. Big effort to all involved…! Years ago I got stuck up DI below the high tide mark with a blown gear box in the soft sand in my old Hilux. Took me 3 hours digging holes for my spare wheel as an anchor point to winch off to get the dead weight with no drive to all 4 wheels up the beach away from the incoming high tide. Still love that place, been going there for 30 years. Just a pity everyone knows about it now…😢

Wow, what a video. We are locals and tow a big van up there all the time. Been bogged many times too over the years. Even in 4WD with a V8 on 35 inch tyres. So don't feel bad. My advise would be head straight for the water and exit straight from the water. Not the sides as its very soft and you loose too much momentum with the corner and distance you need to go. Let heaps of air out and you should be fine. Good luck for next time

Kudos to you funky kids for showing what happened in such an honest way. It’s been ages since I commented on one of your episodes but we spoke back in the days when you first started. We lived full time in our 20ft BT which we towed behind our Single cab 79 for 7 years. I was much lighter than you but still at times high 6.8 tonnes. I can’t comment on the Ford but the giveaway signal there was the fact initially that the rear of the truck was bogged but the front wheels were up high on the sand. I did exactly that one day because being a knucklehead I got out and locked my hubs in but forgot to select 4x4 in the cab…..I was too busy chatting with the wife and excited about the adventure ahead. The minute I hit the sand on the beach and it was boom, just like you. I jumped out and immediately realised the problem >>> Operator error 🤣 That said, you need to tackle these jobs knowing exactly how much sir should be in your tyres. Go low then go steady. On the beach with the BT in tow I’d always stay around 15psi max , it really extends the tyre length. I have gone as low as 11psi, no problems. Glad you didn’t loose any teeth 😂 and so happy u wernt In the situation where the tide could have swallowed your whole rig. 👍🏻 Keep living the dream folks 👍🏻

I'm not shore maybe next time while on the sand you need to load more weight to the back of the van to get the weight off the four bee get some weight on the front tyres good luck

Nice for you that you can get Ford F 350's there, and that in RHD to boot! What some South Africans would give for that luxury 😅

Low tyre pressures 17 psi and momentum but all that wouldn't work without drive to the front wheels .safe travels

17? Not 15 or 20?

Have an earlier F truck with/had the vacuum wheel hubs. Disconnected the vac lines and plugged the supply to the hubs. Now their always manual, my model when the vac leak got real bad the aircon vents wouldn’t open, only to the inside screen. Watched your last (breakdown) video, you probably are on top of it but a cam position sensor and injector control pressure switch are a must for spares kit. Anyhow enjoy ya videos safe travels.

Oh man bring back the Cruiser. You did very well in the circumstances. We came across a Troopy years ago stuck on Morton who didn't know how to lock the hubs in. They had travelled for days on the island in 2WD.

Yeah mate, lately that’s been the case but before the upgrades is was cheaper to run than our 200 series….. almost! We’ve almost replaced or fixed everything worth doin so we’ll be off travelling again shortly 😁👍

Mate from what ive seen so far your not in 4x4 . im tipping your around the 9 tonne all up .. i have the same outfit but with a F250... i hit the rear diff lock and engage 4x4 b4 landing on the beach..great vid m8 its all about learning ,later you will laugh about the beach trip ... good luck enjoy :)

When older Landcruisers had front wheel caps, those caps had an open face where you could access the free wheeling hub.

This does too, but hub cap on this particular wheel won’t come off from the front! It’s the most stupid thing I’ve seen. I’ve since pulled the wheel off to remove the cap completely, now I have access to the hub switch

fry reverse before forward when bogged could have you starting on level ground and not up a wall of soft sand. i have used my winch about 6 times and not once for my car even had to free the ranger at inskip point

Not a dig at you two personally but I don’t know why people subject themselves to such stress by taking their 2/3 ton trailers/caravans onto the beach/sand, so difficult for the 4wd & hard on the gear, dragging a dead weight, a massive sand anchor , I know the relief of getting out of a bog situation

Yeah, mate those front wheels aren't turning eh. Definitely check ya hubs are manually locked in the front. I did the same thing in my F250 1st time in 4wd...even had to use the floor matts as maxtrax!😅 Definitely next time will be better. 👍💪

Turns out the vacuum seals weren’t working so drive wasn’t working. Couldn’t access the front hubs as the caps could only be opened from behind, meaning I had to take the wheel off which was impossible on that sand

Look into an ark jockey wheel. Unhitch , recover car and get van out with tow rope.

Crikey that was painful to watch. Hopefully its sorted. That manual locking setup is shite. Definitely change it

Fairy? I thought it was a ferry... 🤔. Biggest one I hear Princess highway when talking about the Princes Highway.. 1st world problems 😂🤣

been there done that mate "SOME MECHANICS" had 6 different ones tell me there was nothing wrong with my gearbox then i told one guy to service it when he let the oil out he found the top gear in the bottom of the box

That’s a bit of a bummer ! I hope this doesn’t deter you from going on the beach ! As far as I can see you did really well with a 4 tonne van and a 4.5 tonne truck with only a limited slip differential to get you on and off the beach( pretty much 2 wheel drive) hope it hasn’t ruined you guys but this would’ve been extremely stressful you handled well (from what I could see) cheers

After I had some oil seals replaced on the front of the Isuzu NPS one of the locking hubs was assembled incorrectly so no 4wd. It’s embarrassing getting bogged in a caravan park! Before I worked out how to fix the hub we got bogged twice in a week in 2 different caravan parks, the van is just a dead weight in the mud. We got towed out the first time by a 2wd Hilux. Second time we had to unhitch and moved the van with another 4wd.

We towed our 2.7T van up there with our BT 50 Getting there was fine , but managed to get bogged 300m from the Cutting on the way back in the soft stuff( should have waited for the tide to go out more that day)

Unfortunate aspects of Ford technology in the 4WD. Their older Super-Duty and F-series models always had manual locking front hubs on the axles, as well as manual floor shift transfer case lever versus the electronic and vacuum activated system on the newer models. I prefer the older stuff as well, so that once can feel the 4WD engage when it's needed.

As soon I started watching this video, I said the front wheels are not rotating, somethings wrong, it's not in 4WD. When you get bogged in soft sand and everyone gets bogged at one stage, all 4 wheels will dig themselves down, but your front tyres were high and dry. And for people helping, all 4WDrivers will always help out, but a HiLux driver, that's stretching it a bit, only kidding, he did a great job. Only one question, which you didn't address, what tyre pressures were you running, look far to high for my liking. With nice big tyres on your rig, go down to 12PSI or even lower and that's on the van to, but in this situation properly wouldn't have made no difference. But at least you can have a laugh about in. Good luck getting your truck fix, you need it.

How the bloody hell did no one see that your front tyres were sitting up on the sand while the rears were digging their way to China??? I was waiting for you to say "oops" and hit 4wd to drive right out, but started to think it must be a lifted 2WD or something. When things go wrong, sometimes you need to look at the basics. We all get a bit frazzled under pressure. Glad you finally worked it out.

Wld be good to see you try again when the truck is working in 4x4.

sorry but as the observer you should have noticed that those front wheels were not spinning at all when the rear was digging in. And also the driver should see from the fact that the bonnet is getting higher ! Lot of errors made on this video as far as 4x4 and logic but hey thats how we all learn. good on you for getting out there and living it. Awesome to see so many people helping out

@@scottpage81 yes thats why i said as an observer she was perfectly placed to see if the wheels are spinning or not (the drivers not in that position). It took me 1 second to realise that it wasnt in 4wd OR there was a mechanical fault ! Notice i didn't say "you didnt have it in 4wd" ! Whether the car is in 4wd internally is the drivers responsibility. I wont even bother with your "duhh" comment ! Retract or look stupid for the world to see champ.

Ive got a heavy bus too (an NPS300 with a caravan) with 35s, Ive been to 18 front and 23 rear for the really boggy stuff, just have to take it easy. Seems to have worked so far. you lift the car and then lower the tyre pressure so you are back at the same height

Drop the pressures and put it in 4wd low. Lock the rear diff.

We did! No drive to the front wheels due to faulty vacuum seals! Couldn’t manually engage hubs as the hub caps were only freed from the inside, meaning I had to take wheels off to remove the hub cap, which couldn’t happen on the sand.

Weird. I have a 2019 f150. No problems at all with 4wd system. Didn’t even know it had locking hubs. Haven’t noticed any vacuum lines. Mine just works. With 450hp (3.5litre V6 twin turbo 2019limited) lighter than yours and can’t tow as well but it’s a weapon in the sand. I often tow over 3.5ton. But probably wouldn’t attempt to tow that much in sand. Usually lower tyres to 10 or 12 lbs.

where are the tracks for the front wheels don't leave any tracks in the draw. you will use all of them and more if you only use a few and have to use them over and over again
