Teeny Tiny Polymer Clay Cutters by Little Funky Tools

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Video #745: Plamena Ivanova from Bulgaria, sells these minature cutters at her Etsy Shop, Little Funky Flames. They are wonderful... More Info: www.beadsandbeading.com/blog/?... Polymer Clay Tutor.
In today's video I am going to show you some Little Funky Tools from Little Funky Flames on Etsy.
A little while ago, we did a video on the Miniature Enchanted Rose. In that video I explained how to use a drinking straw to cut out tiny circles out of polymer clay, to make the miniature rose.
Well a long time viewer by the name of Plamena Ivanova, from Bulgaria, saw this video and contacted us. She said that she has been watching our videos for years and wanted to send me a set of tiny little cutters as a gift. She promised they would make cutting very small circles a whole lot easier for me. What a sweet gesture!
When the package arrived, it was decorated with her lovely script handwriting, and the tools were packaged in a handy (and cute) little box with a magnetized lid. There were 32 cutters in circles, ovals and teardrop shapes, ranging in size from 1mm to 10mm. Also included was a bamboo stick that can be used as a handle to hold onto the smaller cutters if needed.
The bamboo handle came longer than the box, so I trimmed it to fit snuggly inside the lid, which you will see in the video.
I played around with these tiny cutters and was inspired to make a miniature poisonous mushroom, some tiny leaf bead earrings and some neat little 'Mermaid Tail' shaped earrings from a sparkly Teardrop Blend. You will see samples and learn how I made them in the video as well.
Today I am sharing some love back to Plamena, by sharing this video with everyone. If you're ever in need of cutting teeny tiny holes, or cutting out teeny tiny shapes, then you will want to check out Plamena's Etsy Shop - Little Funky Flames. This world could use a few more kind and generous people like her!

What a great little set! Maybe you could also push the larger shapes out using a cotton bud (if necessary)? The tiny one made really great holes in those leaves, so perfect. I must say, your video on saving the remains of a Skinner/Teardrop blend was one of my favourite tips EVER. I always do it, if the blend is pretty enough to save. Thanks! xx

I used the flat end of an exacto blade handle and that worked pretty goo for the large ones. Of course if you use the wrap it won't get stuck in the first place. Wouldn't work on the tiny little guy though.

Hi - thanks for sharing your great tips. Do you have any suggestions for removing clay from cutters without distorting the clay? I've used plastic wrap which gives rounded edges but would like the look of clean edges without marring the clay when pushing out from the cutter. Thank you.

  • @PolymerClayTutor

One thing you can do is dip your cutters into cornstarch first before cutting. Another tip, if it a small cylinder type cutter, like these ones, then you can blow on it like a straw and pop the pieces out. It isn't always possible for the super tiny ones, but it often works.

Hi there, sorry to hear you're having troubles. I have just sent an email to Plamena myself, so hopefully we can get to the bottom of this very quickly. It may just be a case of too many orders too quickly. (Plus it is night there when it is day here, so that causes some delay.)

  • @PolymerClayTutor

I just heard back from Plamena and this is what she said, " I have so many orders to complete that I can't get to answering all emails and messages. I am giving my best to complete them as fast as possible, and actually considering finding someone to help me with the communication with clients, because I do everything all by myself now." I hope this now puts you at ease. She is a good person who is doing her best but has been swamped by the volume of sales. Just be patient if you can. She will get the product to you as soon as possible. Also take note, sometimes the postal systems in others countries are not as fast as they are inside the USA. I have had packages from other countries including the US take anywhere from 1 to 8 weeks to get to me in Canada. Sometimes stuff will sit at the border for awhile.
