This would apply not only for magnus, but any super grandmaster that loses to a much less rated opponent, and in this case, to a much younger player. No surprise he wins, its expected from anyone in his position. But surprisingly brilliant of that kid to win not once, but three times.

Not uncommon. Basically everybody in the top 20 started playing chess at like 10 and became GMs before 21. Levy didn't hyperfocus on the GM title early enough and now can't bother because it would burn out his hairline and turn him into Tal with all the stress of prepping and playing strong players Also r/woosh

25:58 I had a game last week where I sacrificed my rook on h7 by their castled king. They needed to ignore it and take a bishop in the middle of the board. Instead they took the rook in 2 seconds which was a game ending blunder because Qh5+ with their g6 pinned to the king by that bishop.

Commenting to show engagement... I find the position at 14:04 very aesthetically pleasing. Both sides have withdrawn back to mostly their second rank, a Pawn and Bishop each hold the last vanguard, the White's shock troops seal the breach in the wall, it's like a calm in the eye of the storm, a re-breather in the midst of a medieval battle.

It is amazing to see these kids play. I think chess will go through a huge "levelling up" over the next 10 to 20 years as the combination of youth with computers (for training/analysis but perhaps more importantly just for the unprecedented access to playing games with other high level players to push their experience) is creating opportunities never seen before. Fantastic.

Actual question about game 1 & 2: After game 2, you said that this was a very different Magnus, which I agree on. I was wondering the same thing, but the reason is that this risks a checkmate in two moves: pawn E3 followed by queen H5. Knight H5 is better for black because it protects that square from the queen!

Can anyone explain to me why at 2:52 he didn’t push the pawn to f4 and capture his bishop? I assume he has his reason but I just fail to see how Nf6 is the better move.
