In this clip Agnetha was moving to another house and Abba were moving to a new era till they silently 'left' us for about 40 years, but actually they never did.For us older fans that grew up with them, their legacy remained cherished in our hearts. Burning silently ,scenting with their aura our dreams of nostalgia until they gave us the comeback gift they kinda ''owed us",the VOYAGE era.I got happily resurrected,proud and tearfuly grateful.They will be forever in ma heart .

The lyrics is also so clever. ABBA, has it say's, was very early whit music videos so the could have conection with the fans and it was a reason why MTV started with music videos (or maybe let it grove at least). So ABBA has been in front of new teknics from the beginning (with help of good director and producer).

ABBA were pioneers of music videos. MTV opened in 1981. That is roughly when ABBA broke up.

Great Frida lead in that! Her vibrato is out of this world.

Agnetha's wonderful mourning while singing the lead on this.Now try 'Knowing Me Knowing You" with Anni-Frid on the lead or even 'Voulez Vous" for a funky vibrant super disco banger.

Directed by Lasse Hallström. It sees Agnetha Fältskog playing a woman who is moving into a new house. She decorates the room by adding furniture and coloring the walls. This is interspersed with individual shots of the ABBA members in a studio standing against a wall of mirrors.

This is one of the great songs from The Visitors album I love it ❤

Try jumping to the end of the ABBA story. The day before you came, is their last recording before the comeback.

The effects weren't done through computer back then (CGI) unless it was a very expensive Hollywood movie. This particular effect was done with the clever use of mirrors

This was the prequel of 'Don't Shut Me Down" almost 4 decades ago.

Like most of their videos, this was shot by "Lasse" Hallström for just a few dollars. Those were his early years. He's now an Academy Award nominated Director. When he talks about these videos he seems to be proud that they were done with no budget and a bit embarrassed too. He can't believe that some of his backgrounds were just sheets, some which he didn't have time to iron. Or for the rotating scenes in other videos, he explains that those were shot with the girls standing in a big flower pot on wheels. It seems like in the early days everyone in ABBA and those who helped them were brilliant and talented Swedes.

achristianoazzuro711 Just to give you context. I had a family member who was a principle in several 30 second TV commercials. On the cheap 30 years ago those could be shot for $300,000. The same family member ended up as a major lead in a TV show. That required 80 people on set for the First Unit. At the same time a second unit was probably shooting and maybe even a third. Every hour of filming was very very expensive. An hour show took a week and a half to shoot. And that's not including ADR and all the post production costs. But here we have Lasse producing things with a cost of no more than a few hundred bucks. Amazing guy.

@@chrishaas2376 Wow!that's a whole lot of money.Anyway Lasse did it fine with low budget promos that ended up getting iconic and '70s classics.He had 'first class material' to work with.Imagine that both 'TACOM/KMKY" videos was just '4 people in a room",2 chairs and some snowy landscape,lol.ABBA's vision,sight and sound was so impactful and infectious,that many times nothing more was needed.Just these 4 people.

Just LOVE all your reactions of our Swedish Golden Group ABBA 💙💛💙💛 and that you like the music videos, did you know most of them are directed by Swedish director Lasse Hallström (What’s eating Gilbert Grape, Ciderhouse Rules, Chocolate, My life as a dog .. and many more great feature films). They were friends from young age and just had fun making all those music videos to the songs so the group didn’t have to travel so much to all these countries that wanted them to come and perform, so they just shot a video and sent it to their tv-studios 👩🏻‍🦰🧔🏻🧔🏻‍♂️👩🏻‍🦳🇸🇪

This is one of ABBA's that I think Ace of Base drew vocal style inspiration from... I often hear hallmarks of ABBA in Ace of Base. Another great Swedish act!

Yes. I realized I liked the Beatles after so enjoying many bands they had heavily influenced. ABBA, on the other hand, I knew I liked, and now I'll like someone else's music because it reminds me of ABBA. For instance...I've never been too keen on Miley Cyrus' music, until Flowers came out. I like that song a lot, and it dawned on me recently that that's because it sounds a bit like ABBA...

Rutger’s bass on this is excellent,,people don’t often notice how prominent it is.

This is one of my absolute favorite Abba songs.

You were talking about the music videos back then... If I remember rightly (I was a kid in the 70's, a teenager in the 80's), the style in the 70's was quite flashy. Bright coloured costumes and sparkle, but as the 80's rolled in that 70's style looked old hat. Realism seemed more to people's taste, or a certain glamour that was refined like expensive suits for the men and high-fashion gowns for the women. Showing off some wealth seemed to be the name of the game in the 80's.

Me too, and I was so disappointed that I started to cry. The sound was so different (especially first song) from what I expected and was used to from ABBA. But I started to like the LP very soon after that.

@@filipv.5019 Really? Myself loved it from the start, especially the title track. It remainded me of the jazz-ethnic fusion music that I listened too a lot at the time. Swedish groups like Kornet, Egba, or Björn J:son Lindh, also groups like Weather Report, or even The Police (jazzy punk-reggae).

While some fans don't fancy this song, I knew that there are millions around the world who adore 'One of Us'. Yup, both couples were undergoing personal emotional turmoils, and all four of them looked miserable, but professionally they did sound great as always, the pure exquisite ABBA sound ❤ Please react to One Man One Woman after this. If One of Us showcased Agnetha's beautiful sweet malancholy yet vulnerable voice, One Man One Woman on the other hand showcased Frida's beautiful voice, strong expressive verbrato, full of emotions and malancholy. Chase, you'll see both Agnetha and Frida have beautiful voices in different ways, both are exquisite in their own special rights, but to top both off, the magical blend of both voices are truly truly magical and special. Even backing vocals of Benny and Bjorn add richness to their sound, plus the layering of the voices... that's our out of this world ABBA ❤

The Film-maker Lasse Hallström used to make ABBAs vids and got his "Break-thru" by doing so.. (not sure if this one is made by him though ??..) , you should check some of his other work out ! .. Some of Lasses most famous films are the movies "What`s Eating Gilbert Grape" ( 1993- Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Darlene Cates, Juliette Lewis ..Lasse was assisted by the awesome photographer Sven Nyqvist) and "The Cider House Rules" (In 1999 it won 2 Oscars), "Mitt liv som Hund" (In 1987 "My Life as a Dog" got 2 Oscar nominations and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film..) !

Interesting that Björn and Benny could write such a harmonious song about a relationship that turned sour! I think music videos came into their own after MTV launched in August 1981.

You needed a recording studio at the time.. Other than that one could get access to broadcasting via a public access channel. My area Milwaukee had one. More common means of publishing was by printed newsletters. All.of that audio and video production was mostly out of reach. It was not until I owned a computer capable of video playback when it became possible to use software to produce videos. Before that for me it was PowerPoint slideshows and linked audio MP3 that enabled presentations on a computer. ABBA created my favorite songs. I used audio cassette tapes to playback music on headphones with a Walkman device in the early 1980's. They play music as written and have excellent production quality. I suggest "Angeleyes" as another close harmony song.

They used similar effects in the SOS Official video. Definitely pioneers when it came to doing videos.

Must be the same technic used for Ami Stewart's clip for 'Knock on wood" and later on for the late '90s retro flavoured 'Bring it back" by Moloko.

Thanks for doing a video. This is not my favorite by any means though but hey it's ABBA. This was at the end of their glory days. Agnetha and Bjorn had divorced and Frida and Benny were in the middle of one after he left her for his pregnant girlfriend. Frida looks so sad here it's hard to watch. She was so depressed she chopped off all her beautiful long red hair.

This came out in December of 1981 and MTV had just premiered in August 1981. Up until this time music videos were considered as just part of a limited promotion. The concept of watching videos again and again was new. There was a lot of experimentation with limited video effects at this time which mostly consisted of incorporating distortions and a very few tricks with the video equipment. This example from ABBA is great because they are winging it with a couple of mirrors and some simple split-screens and fades. I've always wondered what sort of amazing visuals they would have come up with if they had continued as technology progressed.

I wish I was in your shoes, having all the Abba songs in front of you to listen to them for the first time. With all the expectations. I have been a Abba-fan for almost 50 year, I m living in the Abba-land Sweden. 🇸🇪 They have made 111 songs! hello, so nice to see you again in another ABBA Journey there is much to say about "One of us" (1981) 1) It is a beautiful song, it has a soft melody and melancholic lyrics that allow Agnetha to shine with a very sweet voice, and a catchy and harmonic chorus 2) was ABBA's last big hit, #1 in several European countries and #3 in the UK (last single Top 10 of their 18 consecutives between 1975/1982) 3) recorded at the end of 1981, the two couples were already separated (Agnetha & Björn almost 3 years ago, Benny & Frida a few months ago) 4) the official video is very good, it shows Agnetha (with a more mature beauty) acting sober and convincing rebuilding a love life from a move 5) In my opinion it is together with "Slipping through my fingers" the best song from the album "The Visitors" , where the melancholy and rawness of their lyrics is most pronounced in the context of a complex album of musical exploration away from ABBA's signature pop, and an image of the four singles over the two couples some fans said, with ABBA comeback in 2021, that the new song "Don't shut me down" is a sequence of "One of us" (almost 40 years later) My greetings to you from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 South América

Got vivid memories from this.I was briefly in West Germany with my parents for a month, by the time this was out,being very young just stepping in my teens and i recall this album was very big there.Both single got to no1/'The Visitors" lp was also no1 for 5 weeks covering all the period we stayed there.

I take it you’ve seen Bohemian Rhapsody the original Queen video that started it all…. Check out Cry by Godley and Cream and Black or White by Michael Jackson

I think you should try the Bee Gees. Maybe "Nights On Broadway", "Stayin' Alive", or "Fanny Be Tender With My Love".

the mirror effect Video feedback is the process that starts and continues when a video camera is pointed at its own playback video monitor. The loop delay from camera to display back to camera is at least one video frame time, due to the input and output scanning processes; it can be more if there is more processing in the loop.

And this was the reggae side of ABBA

I remember how disappointed I was when I heard the first song from this album: Visitors. It's without a doubt a really great song but I was missing that melancholic side that I loved so much about Abba, and I was wondering if THAT would be the new Abba sound. And then a few weeks later I heard One of Us and I suddenly heard everything again that I associated with Abba, this melancholy in Agnethas voice, this harmony in the voices of Agnetha and Frieda singing together... the voices, the music, the lyrics, the harmonies all that, that made Abba so unique for me. To this day, One of Us is, along with The Day Before You Came, my absolute favorite song of Abba. I don't know of any other group that could sing a song like that. Unfortunately, this video once again showed the end of Abba. They no longer acted together as the group they once were. Thanks for your reaction 🙂

Last big international hit in 1981. Surprisingly, the very ambitious title “The Day Before You Came” (a gem for me) was also a top ten hit here in Central Europe, although the earlier lyric-oriented songs like The Winner .., The Name Of The Game (hear it!!!) never reached the top of the charts, which I attributed to a lack of understanding of the lyrics at the time.

Released 1981 young fella . So what’s with todays music that u find this old stuff so popular? Maybe we grew in a spoiled time for music

A great song from 1981... Some of the special affects are just mirrors being moved around. It's effective, but not technically amazing.
