    Sad, that his biggest creation, Mike Tyson, fell victim to exactly that.

    No matter what a man says, what he does at end is what he intended to do the whole time....ponder that saying and you will see why the Stoics say, Don't talk, Do! And if you ponder long enough, people and memories will surface when you were lied to under a bundle of excuses by someone who never had intentions of doing what they said from beginning. Absolutely genius insight. Oh and by the way, we are all guilty as charged on this one. But to be aware of this helps us grow, and it becomes a true test of the company you keep.

    From what is told. Teddy was supposed to be a boxer and he was training with Cus, but started having back issues, cus sent him to a doctor and they found out he has scoliosis and with that, Cus immediately told him that his boxing career was over with and that he wouldn't train him.. but teddy decides to stick around to be his apprentice. Teddy was fired by Cus when the whole tyson situation occurred and was sent home. He was still young. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that Cus really didn't have the affinity towards Teddy, as some would like to believe or is implied. Because In the words of Mr. Atlas, Actions speak louder than words and here Cus action spoke loudly twice, once by cutting him cold turkey and sent him home packing, and another time when Cus choice Tyson over Cus and once again cut him short and promptly sent him packing. Kevin Rooney Was chosen by Mike as Kevin was selected by Cus to continue his camp, gym, and teaching methods. And if Anyone know Cus, it would be Kevin Rooney. Not saying Mr. Atlas doesn't know Cus,

    Personally I feel the second “action” of sending Teddy packing was due to his not wanting anything to come between Tyson’s fulfilling what he considered the crowning achievement of his boxing legacy. Tyson, and Cus admitted this in an interview, gave him his strongest reason to live at this point in his life. Teddy had problems with the way Cus would bend the rules for Tyson because of this. When Tyson approached (basically pushed up on) Teddy’s niece, it was the last straw on top of other troubling things that Teddy saw in Mikes character. That was the fallout. If the fallout had of been between Kevin Rooney and Tyson, Cus would have undoubtedly sent him (Rooney) packing the same way. Tyson was the center of the universe for Cus. He wanted one more heavyweight champion under his legacy.

    This is the first quote from Teddy Atlas that I do not agree with. What if you legitimately had the intention to do something but circumstances changed 15 seconds before you were going to do that thing that force you to do something completely differently? or what if you legitimately had the intention to do something but you were way too over come by resistance? The thing that you do at the end is not always what you had intended to do. The quote is either wrong or it needs more context.

    obiclone what you settle for often shows your intention. Resistance is a constant in life. Change is a constant in life. Failure is a constant in trying. You either deal with those and adapt on your journey to overcome those obstacles and reach your goal or you don’t. and you’re willing to settle for less... maybe that wasn’t really your goal in the first place.

    its completely right. do you remember when someone wanted you to do sth but you really didnt wanna to it, but you couldnt admit it? you dont say it right away, but you create excuses and short cuts which hopefully lead you to not having to do it in the end. you just couldnt tell someone honestly due to various reasons like pride or shame. but your intentions from the beginning was not to do it

    Luka Maric maybe I am taking the quote too literally. What if you had the intention to visit a friend. But two minutes before you got to your friends house you learned that a family member was in a horrible car crash and in the hospital. Even though you intended to go see your friend, you end up breaking that commitment and going to the hospital. I do agree that maybe in 95% of circumstances the quote is true. But it’s not an absolute, as in 100 %.

  • @obiclone

    @obiclone

    Luka Maric I think it also depends on your level of maturity. Have you had enough time developing your ability to overcome resistance? As a kid you would not have developed this. You may have had a specific intent to do a homework assignment, but just could not get over the emotional hurdle.
