JAK! Barak Allahu feekum dear sheikh! I began memorizing Qur'an at age 42, after taking shahadah. I am now 67. The 1st 21 surah were easy to memorize; however, i did not know tajweed then. So i am now going back to perfect the recitation of those i learned earlier. Age may be a factor, truly Allah (swt) knows best, but determination (in my experience) and a genuine love of the words of Allah (swt) trump age. I have also found that it's helpful to have a heart connection to a surah. This can only be accomplished by knowing the Prophet's (saw) life and reading tafsir. So no more memorizing, for me, until i know the back story of each and every surah i've memorized to date inshaa'a Allah. Umar (ra) took 12 years to memorize surat ul baqarah for a reason. May Allah (swt) bless the believers in their noble efforts to commit His words to their hearts, heads and limbs. Ameen.

I'm 59 and starting memorise the Quran .

Memorize: 1. ask Allah swt 2. Find the proper time ( Beginning of the day) 3. Know how much you can daily memorize 1 or more Aya 4. Start now and have your own strategies

There is short term memorization and long term. If you want short term then take a lesson and recite on memories next day .and if you want long term then Recite 41 times in the morning and 10 times after each Salah . For 4 to 5 days . You will memorize in way that you will never ever forget . Very rooted way. But make sure you recite slowly give the Correct pronunciation, the correct vowels . Start your next lesson after you Memorized the current lesson all the way through unforgettably

May Allah accept us as people of the Qur'an and make it easy apoun us Ameen

For me, I'm lazy & I'd get in busy in my daily stuff but when I try to memorize, I focus on one verse at a time, I'd read it while sitting & or during salat & or before sleep. I repeat this process & despite me being lazy somtimes I've notice that I'd memorize a page per month or at least I'd be very familiar with a page. SubhanAllah now I understand how the Quran can be memorized easily cause I know if I put in the extra effort, and I'll try to, I'd memorize the Quran in no time

Salam brother, I have a question. I have read the Quran with translation and Alhamdulillah my recitation is getting decent. But I have found people saying to first read with tajweed then start memorizing. What are your thoughts? Would you recommend I do tajweed or should I start the memorization without it.

Tajweed is part of read the Quran, that’s how the Quran was revealed. Tajweed is not a separate matter. So learn Tajweed and read the Quran the way it was revealed.
