I really hope this works. Im 17 and I’ve been struggling with hifz since covid. Got all the wrong teachers, wrong methods, now we’re going through hardship in our family so my parents are busy and I got distracted. I *really* want to become a hafiz e Quran so bad. I’m only done with 12 paras and a few other surahs yet. Please pray for me and my siblings. Edit: may Allah reward every one of you for your words of comfort. Thank you so much for that *and* to everyone referring to me as bro or brother, I’m a female 😅

Keep going. The reward is in the hardship. The harder, the greater reward ! Do not give up. You're young, you're in your best years to memorize, don't waste it. It's incredible that instead of wasting time like your fellows, you work for you akhira. But also, make sure to self-reflect: if it's getting hard, maybe Allah is testing me because I miss something. Maybe you need to spend more time understanding what you've learned. Memorization itself is useful if you don't understand and reflect, if your intention isn't pure. The sahabah (ra) didn't learn 10 ayat without having understood and implemented the 10 previous ayat. Quantity isn't the best. Quality is. So make sure not to neglect this part. I wish you the best and to finish the Quran with understanding and implementation.
I am 33 and just started my memorization. I have completed juz Amma. Please pray for me.

Couple of Ramadan's back, I wanted to memorise Surah Al-Mulk. Surah Al-Mulk had 30 verses. That Ramadan had 30 nights. Each night, I completed by Isha prayers before midnight, and I'd spent from Midnight till Fajr reciting. The first day I recited only Verse 1 from Surah Al-Mulk. Day 2, I recited Verse 1 & 2.. Day 3, Verse 1, 2 & 3... And this carried on for each day starting from the first verse.. Each time I recited the previous day verses, I recited from memory, and only referred when I needed to for the current day verse.. Halfway through each night I did not need to refer to the current day verse and started reciting the verses by memory from aprox. 3am till Fajr. By the 30th day, I could stand in prayer and recited the whole of Surah Al-Mulk from memory fluently. So yes, memorization of the Quran is all about repetition. And what helps is if you understand the meaning of those verses..

By repeating it hundreds if times , plus the nature of Quranic schools in the country (tents in the middle of desert with no distractions like internet or tvs makes you able to keep your mind fully focused on what you’re studying

To those of you memorising the Quran, read about the Ebinghaus forgetting curve which derives that we start forgetting memorised material immediately after memorising, then at 24 hours, then at 48 hours, then in a week, then in a month, 3 months, 6 months and a year. So if we revise and review the Quran at these intervals, insha Allah we will not forget it

Assalamu alaikum Incidentally I have been trying this for 6 weeks plus, memorize a page, whether from audio recordings. After 5 daily prayers, recite with the mushaf in front of you, 10 tines per page, al-fajr, 10 times Zuhr, 10 times Asr, 10 times magrib, 10 times Isha. For 5 days monday to friday that is 250 times per week. Daily that's 50 times for 5;days. Use Saturday and Sunday to patch up where you were found wanting. The aim is 250. Next week another page and 250times. I knew this years ago but wasn't able to implement it, I learnt this method from someone quoting an Algerian. And the goal for each verse was 1000times. A brother hinted on this method where he memorized suratul Mulk, All praise belong to Allah, incidently it is the same method i have used. For a page that has like 6 verses, you first using an audio recordings listen to verse 1, 30 tines, verse 2, 30 times, verse 1 and 2 together 10 times, verse 3, 30 tines, verse 1,2,3 together 10 times, verse 4 30 times verse 1,2,3,4 10times. verse 5 30times. verse 1,2,3,4,5 10times verse 6 30times repeat 2 or 3 times, that is 60 or 90, because it would be the weakest, since it is the last on the page. Then finally 1,2,3,4,5,6 10times. Hope it helps. Now start using for your tahajud prayers for more retention. May Allah keep easing our affairs. Amin

In this age of digital era. It can be very challenging. But I'm planning to uninstall my social media apps to give this method a try. But ofc there needs moral support.
Mashallah this is what we need to hear today. We trusted our phones and book and formula sheet and ignored the import of memorisation. I have a lot to do InshaAllah.
The Turkish way of memorizing the Quran is as follows: Start from the last page of each chapter. First, the page to be memorized is read forty times. Then, starting with the last verse of each page, the verse is recited forty times. Then move on to the previous verse. It is also recited forty times. Then the two verses are repeated together. In this way the whole page is memorized from bottom to top. Once a page is memorized, move on to the last page of the next chapter. When you reach the thirtieth chapter, go back to the beginning and memorize the penultimate page of the first chapter with the same method and repeat it with the last page that was memorized before. In this method, the last memorized page is recited first and the last memorized verse of that page is recited first. For this reason, the permanence of memorization increases.

Correct. Same here. Memorised a good portion using translation. Knowing the meaning can paint a picture of the ayah in head as you try to recall.
As a memorizer of the Quran who memorized 10 ajzaa so far in 5 years, I think not enough attention is given to understanding the Quran by many huffaz from non Arabic background. I urge everyone to focus on understanding of the Quran more than memorizing. Understanding the Quran is 100 times more important than just memorizing pages without knowing the meaning of the ayahs. If you can do both, more power to you, but if you just want to focus on one thing, then it’s understanding the Quran. I’m a non Arab myself, I found learning Arabic and understanding the Quran as a great way to enforcing the memorization of the Quran.

Also important to mention is the use of the luh in Mauritania, and many other African countries. That is a piece of wood where they write what they going to memorise and from there they memorise. You will be aware of every letter.
Imam Shafi (Rahimahullaah), said to his teacher Imam Waki ibn Jarah. I have poor memory, so Imam Waki said. Stop sinning. So his momery improved. Problem for us we don't know what is sins. So we have to read the book of Kabair (70 Major Sins) of Imam Dhabi, And need to do thoubah for major sins and Istighfār for other sins. When we do sins the black spots and cover the heart كلا بل ران على قلوبهم ما كانوا يكسبون So memorising and Fiqh of the deen not possible. العلم is Noor it won't go to fasiq. Sinner. Especially music. If music and many images of women in your heart. Noble Quran and hadeeth won't be there
