I am successfully leading a team of around 15 people although my inclination has always been more towards technical role. Interestingly I see there is a lot of opportunities and learnings in managerial path as well. So not sure where I will end up eventually 🙂

I think a technical management role is also an important aspect where a person can lead and manage high technical consultants...
There is nothing like management role and there are very few left. There are oldies who are already holding that chair and do not want budge for the new people to take over then what choice do you have even when you have amazing people management skills. You end in a technical role with management skills and you already know the result.
Thank you for yet another wonderful video. I think you should have also shed some light on parameters like work-life balance and income. As per my understanding, in the early and mid-career stages, techies earn more, but eventually, managers catch up with them. While work-life balance is generally better on the management side.
Very helpful and informational video, I also had the question in my mind.
These days, the demand for techno managers is more than ever. People-only management days are gone. A technical person organically growing into a manager is the safest thing to do as per my experience.
Thank you sir good information for experience people
Following you from last around one year .... You are becoming a lighthouse personality . Great going great content . Thanks a lot !
Yes Sir what you say makes sense.
Never been able to understand how a non technical manager can manage technical people, appraises their work and decides who deserves promotion!!!!

I love technical and like you've described I'm more of a technical person but without much technical expertise/knowledge for my age in 30s. I don't know how to grow/survive in this world.
For IT services companies and support projects, aim of being service delivery manager after 40 which is a combination of technical, process and client facing management role . For development projects, aim for technical project manager role because TPM is a combination of architect and manager and who can take both technical and project management decisions.

Usually people think TPM means they involve into technical. But actually not. Lot of projects they just work like scrum masters which doesn't have much tough with technology.
@sumerrana1111

@@nagasabsreeshgontla4628 It depends. Your TPM can discuss about high level design or architecture so he should know the technical aspects but don’t expect him to troubleshoot the bugs in application or write a code for introducing new functionality. That is simply not his job.
One suggestion, before going to any conclusion for any role..both options will open after 10+yrs exp..then lets take taste of other role for small duration around 1 year and see, are you fit into that..and then decide..if not suitable other options is always open...these roles are working differently in every organisation or expectations may also vary...best of luck.
Thanks v much🎉
Hi, Curious to know why is that technical people may have to put in extra hours? Moreover as per my experience at some point even if you are in a technical role you have to attend meetings throughout the day just like any managerial role. The only difference is that you have to attend the meeting with architects from other teams. But there also your job is to collaborate with them to identify a feasible solution. Hence, being a good speaker, negotiator or collaborator pays off even if you are a technical person.

Thanks Anand. Can you also tell me about opportunities. Technical people have more opportunities than Management, do you agree ?
@Anand which is high paying job management job or technical role. Currently i am feeling technical people are paid more as compared to management . Is it true??
Very good
Are there technical tasks other than coding? What are they? Business analysis for example? Or solution architecture or proposal writing?
How do you perceive techno-managerial roles - are they jack of all trades with no clear career path or they can become industry experts with enough experience in their field? How does one get such a role at their company and ensure the career growth always continues?
Interest doesnt matter for employers. In my professional life I have never been hired for my strengths or interests but what is market demand. That is what matters. Satisfaction is secondary

For QA, aim for domain expertise and try for product owner kind of role. Certifications like Safe, CSPO and domain related should be done. If you want to also remain technical then keep in touch with automation tools.

My experience as nri - Most "managers" in india don't know a thing about people management. And its a cultural issue. You never find a 50 yr old expert developer who is well paid. So the only choice left for them to earn more is to be a manager. This is the sad truth.

Being technical doesn’t necessarily mean only coding. I’m a principal engineer and I don’t code a lot. I write initial prototypes, manage multiple products, write design doc and do code review and put off fire. I can continue doing this without having to manage other engineers

Not completely true: if you had done a MBA from a 2 or 3 tier college then you are not gonna get any management or consultant role you will get field jobs that are really exhausting, instead if pursue a technical career then with experience you can transition to mgmt within same tech that will be much better and well paid, or you can simply do an mba from IIM then obviously you will be in a good mgmt position. So it depends from where are you starting your career. In mgmt also there is a huge growth and jn technical as well.
After 40, you have other liabilities. Technical role requires more time, energy and strength which you won't be having at that time. Your juniors will perform better than you. Eventually you will get demoralized. So, don't continue in technical line after 40.
