The new 7/2018 6940's have a CR serial number prefix, not LE anymore. Also marked M4 carbine 5.56 on the lower. Comes with pmag, mbus flip up rear sight, and standard Colt cage code marked stock. BCG is NOT marked with a C on the side. Bolt is marked MPC. Upper has square forge mark and a C. Hope this helps anyone that cares.

@@zonked4370 it really depends. My 2020 6920 has a c marked bolt. I'm sure the unmarked ones are Colt as well because they seem to be moving away from the c proof marks on a lot of their products and are putting their CAGE code instead where necessary.

I ordered myself a CR 6940 as soon as I realized they were available again. Idk if CZ is making colt produce these again or if they just found a bunch lying around in a wear house somewhere but I’m not taking any chances. This was and is the rifle of my dreams since middle school.

Recently bought an LE6940; thanks for this very informative video.

Hands down the best value in a factory AR. Shoots like a $2500 rifle, costs only a little more than a starter brand AR.

@@Dan-di9jd I’m aware it doesn’t have the burst feature like the military version of these. I have a friend with this m4 in the military, only difference is burst option and they really don’t use it

Love my 6940. Shoots like a dream, accurate as could be.

First off…. Your videos are amazing. The only other person I’ve seen go into detail like this is Ian from forgotten weapons. Also Mishaco but I don’t watch him much as I’m not as interested in the Warsaw Pact stuff. Secondly…. This video was awesome because I never knew Colt or anyone made a monolithic 1 pc upper that incorporates the hand guard and receiver itself into one piece. I love the idea of it. Hand guard isn’t bolted to the end of the receiver itself meaning it’s as to a real free floating barrel as possible for a gun with a gas block. I also love that the top rail is now continuous and can’t go out of alignment with the receiver. Makes the 1913 rail out on the hand guard better for mounting things that need to retain a zero.

I appreciate your honesty and knowledge, all info / dates you provide. Thank you sir. I own a 6940, fired around 15K rounds no malfunction ever. I just replaced the cam pin (very slight wear) and the buffer spring (was about 1/2 inch shorter) Of course all replacement parts were original COLT parts. People out there think that all parts are created equal and there are not, even if the measurement are exact, the composition of the metal also plays a big role. A COLT is a COLT and that is the "HI" standard all compare to. Thank you again sir.

I’m pretty happy with my geissele super 42 spring and buffer.

Sounds like the smart thing for SOCOM to do was adopt either the Scar type A or C, and the Type B as an upgrade package for existing M4s. Even if they decide the no longer need the Scar, at least it is parts interchangeable with the rest of their rifles.

Back in ‘09 I purchased THIS model in Montana, NO ambi selector (?), QD’s on the front of the h/guard (as you mentioned in the final production along with me adding the Vltor Mod stock. Mounted an ACOG immediately (4 X 32 BAC, horseshoe/red reticle) and a Surefire SF3P SOCOM-series F/hider along with a BCM ambi c/handle, Mod 4. Absolutely adore this rifle..ONE of my favs for sure

I bought a 6940 gas gun just because it looked cool and I liked the monolithic upper as it gives you a rail system that is more stable and you can mount your optic any where and not worry that part of your mount is on the receiver and part on the handguards. I liked its looks and functionality better than the 6920. I later bought an LMT 7.62 x 51 with the monolithic up Cheers

@@madstan8948 The LMT I have is the 7.62 x 51. It's basically the same rifle the UK chose for their Designated Marksman Rifle. It has several features that set it apart from other AR-10s. It has the monolithic upper receiver. The upper receiver and handguard sections are all one piece. Which makes it stronger. With no worry that the forend will loosen and rotate. The big benefit is you can loosen 2 screws and remove the barrel and replace it with a different barrel in less than 5 minutes. You don't have to adjust for headspace. There are a lot of different choices for different calibers and barrel lengths. Calibers are based on the .308 case. Such as .260 Remington, 6.5 Creedmore. Unfortunately LMT is backlogged. I'm still waiting to get a 6.5 Creedmore barrel. The Colt also has a monolithic upper. Quality is first rate. The only odd thing is it has a proprietary barrel nut. Cheers

@@madstan8948 I agree the 6940 and my Daniel Defense are my 2 favorite AR-15s. The 6940 is definitely top tier. I put a Trijicon 1-4 on it and it's my rfle for any 'serious social purpose' 👍 I also love my Colt M4-A1 that would by my CQB gun without a scope. Cheers

I carry a select fire 6940 at work (LE), and own a semi auto version. The only complaint is how hot the upper receiver gets, most of us wear a glove on our support side during our re-qualification. On my semi a fore grip eliminates this problem. Excellent video I learned a lot about the history/development of this rifle.

Hi Gnome Star. I have carried and shot hard (as an instructor) my issue 6940 and have not experienced it becoming so hot that gloves were required. And I have shot my hot and hard. Your experience is interesting. Mine is semi-only and was purchased in 2009. Oh well. Its easily the best AR platform I have ever used. Stay safe.

Hi Chris. Would you be able to do a video on the ZM LR-300 series? Those were some great versions of the AR platform which were sadly overlooked by both LE, military and civilian users. They are rather rare lately as a result.

I need your help. Recently I acquired a Colt/Diamaco Upper and it has the Colt "C" and Diamaco "D" markings in the same upper. I was trying to find out more about this specific upper, it has Dry film, white t markings, M4 stamp. any chance I can email you some pictures?

Any issues when considering an AR style 300 blackout for the 6940? Looks to be one of the few options for upper replacements using this lower since mine doesn't look to be modular. Thx.

can you give me an idea what the 6940 piston is worth

I picked up my LE6940 (w/"For Law Enforcement... stamp) in September 2009 w/a barrel stamp date of 07/09...what's curious about the upper is it has the "Pat. Pend. #" stamped on the right side just below the receiver's pic rail. To date I've yet to see an LE6940 w/the "Pat. Pend. #" stamp.

So mine seems to be a hybrid between your prototype and the production model as far as sights goes. The front sight does not have the lock system on it and the rear sight is the same as the prototype but mine does say m4 carbine on it. So that was interesting to take in. I got an in-between one I guess. I don't know. Wish I could send you a pic and you tell me what rifle I have specifically some how. Thank you for the info!

That's a LE6940P. You had me thinking I had a piston driven Colt because I have a LE6940. If there is no P at the end it's not piston driven.

Is that plate the 80x90 shooter's cut? lol

I trade a norinco mak90 stamped rifle for le 6940 model few weeks ago. Im aware that chinese aks have gone up in value because theyre already banned but the colt le6940 is also one of the most sought after colt product and is high value rifle to my opinion. They i made the right decision trading my chinese to colt le6940? Your thoughts are highly appreciated.

The 6940p should have been the scar...we wouldn't be looking at hk416s now. I just find it hard to justify arming OUR military with foreign made arms

No please, I hope you didn't. Unless it's Colt, DD, Noveske or Sig (and even Sig I wouldn't spend that much money) I wouldn't consider spending that much money on an UPPER. Check armslist, gunbroker, gunsamerica, primary, buds etc. for some deals my man.

Why did Colt bother with the grenade launcher cut in the barrel when 99.9% of buyers would never mount an M203? I'd image it cost time and money for essentially pure aesthetics for civilians who want a M4 copy.

Cost more money to retool it without it. Cheaper to use the same parts not to mention they all want the option of the M203 just in case. :)
