    This guy is so amazing; we take it for granted that we have someone like Jeff sharing all kinds of information and we are so lucky! I've emailed Jeff about even spark plug gaps and showed him a photo, and guess what? He replied right away and gave me excellent feedback. I've been riding for over 4 decades, and trust me, we need people like Jeff to inform us of important stuff for our bikes. A huge thanks to Jeff and I shop on his site all the time, which is very easy and the site is set up perfectly. Wish I could thank him personally for all his information and knowledge.

    Great info as always! I installed the new Samco hoses and Mule head on my 16 250w, the S3 head is, IMO, the best mod for the 250 W models, outstanding low end power now. Good reminder that we all have a duty to share the trail in a kind way with everyone.

    Trail etiquette talk was spot on! It's hard to maintain access to our riding areas. Same things goes for loud pipes, and blasting up and down the road in front of the parking area.

    Spot on Jeff, in terms of the trail behavior - guys please pull over, stop you bikes and let the people by and especially people with pets and horses take the lead. Once they are gone then get back on with your life. Take the high road and just shut off you bike until they are comfortable... Thanks Jeff for the excellent vid on the hoses - I ordered my replacement hoses from your site. Excellent site by the way! All prices on your site are lower than anywhere else I could match. BRAAAP!!!

    I've run this on past bikes and was very impressed, the simplicity makes more sense with Samco. I'm not even sure the my 4 stroke 2022 FX350 has the thermostat LOL but if it does I think this bypass would be wise. Thanks guys!

    FX are usually ran wide open unlike trail bikes. Its important to maintain consistent engine temp for efficiency. There's a reason automobiles and pretty much every other liquid cooled engine has a thermostat.

    First of all the word "efficiently". It means "functioning in the best possible manner with the least waste". Without a thermostat the coolant travels at whatever flow the pump can deliver regardless of temperature. Temperature, not coolant, is the function of the cooling system. You are not achieving proper temperature, and wasting flow, losing on both accounts. NOT EFFICIENT. An engine working outside optimum temperature is not efficient. Less power, improper jetting, more wear. "Slow going" can be anything from light loads to max power, but the common factor is low air flow. At light loads there is ample cooling capacity in any MX or enduro rad. The engine will be over cooled. At max power with a thermostat the engine will be at optimum temperature and kept that way. The open area of the thermostat is sized to match the hose and port sizes of the engine, so there is no gain of coolant flow by omitting the thermostat. So, the pros and the cons of running with a thermostat: - warms up faster in any climate - runs and stays at proper operating temperature - maximum power at proper jetting - least wear on the piston and cylinder - weighs an extra 1/8 to 1/4 pound The pros and the cons of running without a thermostat: - often will not warm up with light loading or idling. - requires carefully ramped warming procedure before full power - can cause unexpected 4 square seize of forged pistons - saves 1/8 to 1/4 pound of weight - jetting needs to be slightly rich for smooth cold run situations - engine power is inconsistent due to temperature fluctuations - maximum power is down due to jetting and low temps Thermostat reliability is not really a factor these days, rare under 10yrs and fail in safe mode.

    I agree Jeff with bypass only issue I've seen is running the bike when it's 30/50 degrees outside bikes running 90 degrees when on road to get to trail. I've used duct tape over radiator to get bike to operating temp.

    The problem still exist with the thermostat in 30-40 degree temps. The bike will never get up to normal temps without blocking off one radiator.

    It can. The thermostat is to warm it up fast. I think some misinfo in video. Seems Jeff does not understand what it does. It will help stop cold seizures with quick warmup. It bypasses radiators until thermostat opens. That is what the small bypass hose is doing.

    Not at all. People who delete it know they better warm it up good first. A thermostat will safely allow you to ride it almost immediately at any speed because it can come up to temperature in 1/10 the time. The cooling system bypassed by the thermostat allows 60 second freezing cold warmups where without the thermo engine may never come up to full operating temp and run way too cold. If you know anything about engines and fuel injection you would know a stable temp keeps fuel mixture stable and engine is at proper clearances and not running at 100 degrees in freezing weather still running rich.

    Thermostats are designed to keep the engine at optimum temp. Ride in a cold environment and you're screwed. A fan fixes the boil-over.

  • @slaverace1

    @slaverace1

    Жыл бұрын

    The thermostat primarily makes the engine warm up a little quicker and has nothing to do with normal operating temps, except in extremely cold conditions that are too cold for comfortable riding. We don't claim that the Samco silicone hoses fix boil-over, but they do increase the flow. You are correct that the only cure for boil-over is a fan kit.
