Hi mick, is it okay to use big snorkel(4inches) rather than the standard size? What are the cons or disadvantages of putting a big snorkel to 4x4? Thanks
Is the snorkel head not blowing off by the wind under heavy acceleration???
Hi Mick. just a silly question on the comment about air being " forced down" in the snorkel. will it make a difference if the top part is facing forward or backsword's ? I would assume backward will help if you are driving in convoy on a dirt road ?

My snorkel made a whistling sound, and I turned it around and whistling is gone. Works for me.
Thank you for the explanation Mick. But why do people then have to spend the money to fit a snorkel in the first place? Apart from deep water crossings.

Hi Jaco. It is always our advice that vehicles that often operate on unsealed roads (gravel Roads, Etc), should be fitted with a snorkel to keep the air filter system cleaner for longer. A blocked air filter will increase fuel consumption and decrease engine performance. More importantly however, it will also be less effective at filtration potentially letting dust particles into the engine. This is very bad for engines and turbos. Money spent on a snorkel is cheaper than the cost of an engine rebuild.

Try driving a gd6 on a dirt road daily without a snorkel and you might have to rebuild the engine

@@Ooo-nu6ot I drive a gd6 on dirt daily with a snorkel and Ive been pretty disappointed with how much dust gets into my airbox, fine particles seem to also make it past the filter, and yes Ive even put grease around the filter.
Salt air is another killer of air filters, besides dust.
So the snorkel does improve gas mileage?

A snorkel will improve breathing of the engine and should reduce fuel consumption.
Wouldn't that be John Smit ???
