It's like a guitar amp, you're SUPPOSED to adjust the treble (medium) and bass, or else it shouldn't have these buttons at all. And you don't leave the buttons at 0, you put them at 5 both. I have the Marshall SW speaker and the sound is way above any portable amps I've ever heard before. While being very stylish at the same time. Paired with the case and it's a 20/20. (I would have given 25/20 if you could adjust the medium too, but hey, can't have everything :p )

Bose SoundLink III is a great speaker but this one is even better (sounds very similar) and much more cooler because of the Knobs that really works and looks awesome. I bought it because I like small portable speakers and don't like any longer volume adjustment by pressing the button. I'm very positively impressed by Marshall Speaker. I recommend!

Well if you have the bass at zero obviously it’s going to sound flat....

Yes, this is true, but it's also unlike Marshall's other speakers. I've listened to the Stanmore and have reviewed the Woburn, and I felt that neither of them needed any bass/treble adjustment. They sound fantastic right out of the box; when your jam comes, that's when you crank the knobs for fun and added oomph. It seems silly to me to have to leave the bass knob permanently dialed up to a three/four to prevent the speaker from sounding flat. Personal preference I suppose.

This is how it should be. As playing various songs on guitar you need to tune the strings to certain songs, you should adjust your speaker for certain songs to get the best out of it as you like it through the speaker. I'm an all eater when it comes to music, but rock/metal is my main genre which is what Marshall does best. So this will be a killer! I'll have it 1-2 days from now. I ordered a new phone yesterday and got this speaker, a powerbank and a hardened glas screen protection included in the deal, so I'm not excited at all.

Man love the review, but I was wondering what do you think of the battery time? Does it as advertised play for 25 hours (at 50% power that is)?

  • @TechReviewSummaries

    @TechReviewSummaries

+Ihsan Kibar Not quite, at least not at the 50% level. I can squeeze the listed 25 hours when playing at low volume levels, about 6 on the speaker with 20-40% on my smartphone. It's a little low for how I typically like my music. But when I set the volume to medium-to-high, it can go for at least 16+ hours before I have to recharge it again.

I've only casually (in-passing) listened to the JBL Charge 3, so I wouldn't be able to give a real comparison opinion. However, I like bringing music outside with me. The Stockwell is too pretty to venture from the safe confines of a desk or shelf (IMO). The Charge 3 plays well with water, sprinklers, mud, kids, etc., so it gets portability points from me for that ^_^

I wish you knew a little more about audio systems in regards to judging the sound quality of this unit. As someone pointed out - set base and treble to the middle to start. Setting at 0 dampens that particular range, 5 is neutral, and 10 is enhanced.

Is it good for EDM Music? Because I tried it at shop and bass seemed amazing and strong, but I'm not a expert of music, so I don't know... What is better? This or Bose Mini Soundlink 2 (For EDM and Rap Music)? P.S. Sorry for my bad english, I'm Italian ;)

  • @TechReviewSummaries

+tommaso soverchia The bass is decent so long as you have the knob adjusted at least to 3. Even so, the extension is lacking, and more bass and/or volume doesn't add any additional impact or detail. And then too much makes it all sound bad. I heard the Bose Sounlink Mini 2 on display, and it made me stop and turn my head! I was surprised at its output and depth, given the quality (and that it's from Bose, but I'll give credit where it's due). With the Stockwell, I just didn't feel that same effect. Couldn't. I tried, but can't fake it. And I also listen to a lot of EDM and hip-hop, and the Stockwell didn't impress as much as I had hoped. Although the Creative Sound Blaster Roar 2 has its own flaws, I think it sounds better overall than the Stockwell.

+tommaso soverchia If you haven't made a purchase yet, I recommend considering either the Denon Envaya (US$200) or the Riva S (US$250). I just got the Riva S (quite literally last night) after months of trying to find "that one." Portable, clear, detailed, accurate, rich/full (for the size), and Bluetooth with aptX were the criteria I had been wanting. I've been casually listening to the Riva S all morning and I'm absolutely stunned. The reviews out there are not wrong. It may not get as loud as some other speakers of the same size, but (so far that I can tell from just a couple of hours listening) it sounds excellent at all volume levels. There aren't many portable speakers that have the ability to pair together for left/right stereo. And of those that can, not many are worth buying two of to do that. I think the Riva S might be worth buying two, although right now there's only an iOS app and none for Android to make it happen. (P.S. your English is better than that of many homegrown Americans ^_^)

Thanks for your honest review! I am planning on chossiing between marshall stockwell, ue megaboom, and Bose Soundlink Revolve+. I might choose ue megaboom then(or Bose). As I am reeaaally doubtful about Bose having bass as you were. (Used to use their bluetooth headphones and they got bass worse than ipod headphones) Might head for megaboom then. Thanks!

It's when you can adjust like this it becomes a good speaker. I've tried a lot of portable speakers, and most of them dont have those knobs, so yes ou cant do much. But that is cause the majority of speakers are focusing on the shitty mainstream bullshit. If you have a good ear and listen to rock/metal ect....... music with a lot of instruments where the bass and vocals aren't always the centre of the universe, Marshall is great. Cause that is what they've always been good at. I've tried this speaker, and all I can say is #finally something with clearity". Now I can hear everything much better. . Wankers!

You spoke my mind. I actually went to the store to check out the speakers they had before buying them online...I was considering the popular JBL or UE's, but they all seemed geared towards hip-hop and shit with emphasis on bass, etc. Then the guy showed me this Stockwell and I found it to be excellent for my metal stuff.

+Sirup Freek I'm kinda eyeing the Kilburn, although the lack of aptX with the Bluetooth makes me hesitant. I have reviewed the Woburn, which is absolutely incredible (and also features Bluetooth with aptX) to listen to! I casually listened to the Stanmore while at CES 2015, and that impressed me too. They're just not so portable, haha.

This is true when it comes to audio quality, since the smaller speakers are physically limited by the size of their hardware. But those who like to watch/stream videos or play games using a Bluetooth wireless speaker (or headphones too) benefit from aptX's low latency; the audio syncs up with the video instead of experiencing a delay. (I kind of glossed over this aspect in the video, hah)

+єввє.єт.ƒℓυт It's only ok for hip-hop, EDM, or anything with substantial bass. You can tune the bass adjustment and volume knobs to make everything louder and more present, but there is still a lack of impact and detail. And too much bass knob starts to distort the mids.

I'm very disappointed in this product. I bought it yesterday and today it wont power on. After searching the internet a little dipper I found out that this a common problem. It's been going on for some time and there is no fix for it. On the other hand the sound quality is incredibly good if you like listening to rock . Over all I would say it has good sound but it was made with low quality parts so if you care about your money don't buy it
