Kinda like Flitz but fancy eh? Would be good on a buffing wheel for sure

Try applying to a harder substrate than shop paper. Balsa wood works really well. I use basswood and balsa wood and apply this exact diamond paste to them and use them in my kme forirror edges. I can promise you, 14k is an amazing full-on mirror. You've just gotta spend more time / use a hard substrate on the earlier grits.

you don't even need 14k. 8k is plenty. the 5k is already creating a mirror thats on par with the highest grit whetstones you can find, other than the 30k grit shaptons and suehiros. That also depends on the substrate used, stones have much harder binding that the compressibility of diamond on wood much less leather. Anything finer than 5k I would not even bother with on a knife, even a sushi knife. The 8k or 14k I'd save for straight razors, and even there is superfluous. To be clear I'm talking tech diamond tools stated grit ratings of their generic oil based diamond powder abrasive compound. The 5k is a 1.5 um to 3 um distribution, so about 2 or 2.5 um. You really dont need anything finer than this for any knife. Using 0.5 um stuff is the kind of silly ill informed thing noobs do, imo. Even on a straight razor it's debatable if anything finer than 1 um is worth a shit. On most substrates that 1 um is leaving scratches that are .01 um or less in depth. If I had to suggest to a knife bro to get which grits of this product, I would say get the 3k and the 5k or the 8k if you really want it. then add the 14k as well. One double sided strop with 3k/5k for knives. another double sides strop with 5k/14k for razors. I prefer wood substrates like balsa, bass but especially birch wood, but leather has it's uses as well. I use leather all the time when I need to make high quality convex edges. Tech diamond tools also sells diamond powder, so you can mix your own carrier, be it oil or water or solvent or emulsion based, depending on the need and substrate you want to use. The reason I like tech diamond tools is because they sell in very small quantities, as little as 5 grams of diamond powder, for under $10, to consumers with accurate grit distributions and fast shipping. Most of the knife bro crap, that same potential you will get out of one 5 gram bag of their powder is like hundreds of dollars worth of over priced products like the standard knife bro diamond compounds, that have literally 100x markups on them if not more. They sell you 30 cents of diamond power in emulsion for $40. Very silly.

Can this be used as a stropping compound? Like gunny juice it sounds like it’s the same thing

To be honest I haven’t really delved into stropping, and by other comments it sounds like my use here was rather inefficient. I did hear some of the reviews on Amazon mention stropping though, and I think it would provide a very high polish edge if that’s the goal

@Human_Evolution- depends. Are you getting diamond, or no? For 10$ to 30$ you can get high concentration paste in 5-40gr. Then dilute it to what you need, or not. Then put it on whatever. This paste is not meant to be sand paper. It's lapping compound. So... it's not really the same. Both do remove stock, one is meant to be a precision tool.

@Human_Evolution- I will say this, this paste is meant to go a hell of a long way... so in any case, it outcompetes sand paper as a polishing medium

There almost isnt words to how wasteful your being with this paste... obviously you can do you, but this would be far better in a microfiber cloth, or something you dont toss... the amounts your using should be good for months of use on something better than paper towels. Even a dremel with a buffing wheel... that wheel can be used over and over with literally a dab. I work in cnc, and with a high concentration compound i can mirror polish the slides and a whole chuck. Get yourself a dremel, and wet the wheel Then let it dry. Then use it. With the amount you used of just the 2k grit you should have a wheel or cloth that you can do a dozen blades with before you use another squirt.
