✨ TeamLab Borderless: Tips & Walk-through, 2024 ✨ Tokyo, Japan

Tips for visiting TeamLab Borderless in 2024, at its new location in Azabudai Hills, near Tokyo Tower.

TeamLab Borderless is the permanent digital art museum in Tokyo. It's a unique experience, with projection mapping, lights, music and all sorts of effects to experience. The video includes a walkthrough, tips to make sure you don't miss anything, what it's like, whether it's worth it, how to get there and how to get tickets. I'm a fan of TeamLab's work, but I really enjoyed it even though I've been to it before, and other TeamLab installations around Japan. The video also shows what to expect, and what it's like.

Update about accessibility: there is an elevator to get in, so it is accessible! Another update! The Sky Lobby in the Mori JP Tower was only open to the public temporarily. Since 17/04/24, it's now only for businesses located in the skyscraper. But Tokyo Tower's only a short walk away!

Went to the initial team labs in Odaiba in 2019. Didn’t realize the Azabudai Hills was the same one that moved over from Odaiba until about halfway through my visit. I have to agree that Odaiba was better with that large ball room and a couple others. One last FYI to anyone @ 18:00 Floor 33 Observation tower will be closed to guests permanently and will only be accessible to residents of AHs from April 24, 2024. There are signs posted around when I went last week.

I just saw that yesterday! That'll explain why the Sky Lobby in the Mori Tower wasn't being advertised anywhere. Glad you got in just before it closes to the public. It seems like TeamLab in Okinawa has several of the installations that used to be upstairs in the original TeamLab Borderless, so maybe they sent them there.

Hi Amy - Cakes with Faces. My wife and I just got back from Japan. We visited TeamLab Borderless during our stay. Your video was very helpful, and I believe we found all the rooms inside (maybe). My wife loved the tea room a lot. We spent more than 2 hours inside, time flies when you're having fun. Thanks again for your excellent information thru your channel and your book, both are highly appreciated and very helpful when trying to figure out what to do in Japan. We took your advice and booked Green Car tickets with oversized baggage space at the rear of the car. We rode the Nozomi 18 train from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo Station, the journey took 2 hours 27 minutes, and we arrived only a few seconds after the scheduled time at 2:30 PM - highest speed recorded was 291 Kmh or 180 Mph 🙂

TeamLab Planets for example has a huge sign on the outside of the building that's very obvious as soon as you exit the station. 😂

Glad you discovered it - I'd definitely recommend it to anyone! :-) It's tricky to say which is best as I haven't been in the evening. Looking at ticket availability, the morning tickets sell out first so that suggests the evening may be quieter. However you'd have people who've entered in the afternoon still there, and if you go at opening, it's just you and the first batch of people so it's quieter. I expect the later it gets, the more people will have left and gone home - but make sure you allow enough time to look round - you can easily spend 3 hours there.

But you can wander around freely so you can check each room before going in. There are also a few rooms where you're not allowed to touch things eg the strings of LEDs in the Crystal World and the hanging spheres/lamps.

I spent 2 hours 40 mins, but I think if it's your first time there, you'd spend longer there, definitely 3 hours or maybe even 4.

Are you allowed to record there? Like record different rooms and take photos?

There's nothing saying you can't, and nobody stopped me. ☺️ Haven't checked but it might just be the usual no tripods/no selfie sticks rules.

Which do you think more fun for 16yr old teen boy?

Probably Planets as it has more physical rooms and less just looking at things - although it is smaller. At Planets there are the water rooms that are more unusual, and rooms with unusual floor types.

@cakeswithfaces thanks for your reply. Yes, from the videos he has seen, he is much more interested in Planets.👍. It just seems harder to get there than borderless. P.s. love your videos. Find them super helpful 😊

@@melgordon2490 Thanks so much! It's really not far on the train - you could combine it with a day in Odaiba, and visit the giant Gundam which is only a few stops away on the Yurikamome Line. I don't know if he'd also be interested in Small Worlds Tokyo but that's very close, and has sections from Evangelion: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mYqem5ampbuqYJs.html The Trick Art Museum's also in Odaiba and that's so much fun - you'll go home with some hilarious photos: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kameqZmEj5eolqw.html

Do you think TeamLab Planets would be more fun for children?

  • @cakeswithfaces

    @cakeswithfaces

Yes I think so, as it's more physical. They'd just need to be tall enough for the water rooms - the water comes up to mid-calf depth on adults. I think they'd enjoy TeamLab Borderless too.
