I wouldn't say Mai is indifferent to her brother's fate. She has no choice in the matter when Azula suggests it. Azula showed up and basically just took over everything, so when she makes the "suggestion", it's an order. Just like when Azula shows up, Mai joins with her "willingly" after Ty Lee says indirectly that she'd been forced into service.

Good point. After thinking more about it and reading some comments like yours, I think maybe she thought, that that was the best way to protect him. Because she knew Azula just wanted to keep Bumi and not necessarly hurt the boy. So her plan was maybe to get her bro back and keep bumi so azula is happy. So she was confident that she could get him back. That being said she did risk the little boy's life because she did not know who was holding him ,,hostage''. Tough choice. I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt that if Azula made an order which would directly harm her little baby bro she would not follow it. But that's just me speculating her character from very little information. She did seem very distant from emotions at first. I really like the Avatar fans. No spoilers ever just fun takes and theories I can discuss with you guys!!

neutral jin is a great mindset that actually helped me personally multiple times in my life. this show is full of wisdom

I'm gonna tell you before you spend the rest of the series confused like I've seen other people xD. When fire is too hot, it gets blue. Azula can shoot lightning but she doesn't spam it. Usually, she just firebends blue fire.

Nah, Mai just saw that the Gaang was taking care of her brother...that might be the best care he had, considering that his parents was so negligent that a lemur "kidnapped" him.

Azula's manipulation of Mai and Ty Lee can be subtle, but it's there. When you already know what she is capable of and learn to read the signs, you learn survival techniques by accomodating her as much as you can.

The manipulation is there yes but so is the genuine friendship between them

Azula is like the scariest and best villian ever, she is smart, a firebender prodigy and she knows how to get her way.

"I feel like she's a little bit more of a problem than Zuko" is spot on. Lol.

I think bending is from the muscles. You can't bend without physical motion. Boomie is just such an accomplished earth bender he learned to do it with his facial muscles

These have all been really great! I'm all caught up now. I wish they came out more than once per week, but I know you have a schedule to keep. Loyalty and friendship, and it's various forms and flavors - is a big theme in this show. As I'm sure you've seen - the writing is very top notch and they don't tend to do things for no reason. You'll see a lot of layers between all the characters start to evolve and unfold as things progress - including Ty Lee, Mai, and Azula.

at first, I thought this reaction videos were weird, but I am so into it now... it's like watching a show with someone and commenting on it... you know? like it feels differently than watching it alone... makes sense? anyways, thanks for the content!!! I know it's a cartoon and all, but you're very perceptive and seem really invested, a lot of people just watch stuff happen on the screen, but you're taking the time to get into it :) #subscribing

I love Ty Lee

Regarding Ty Lee - it's as easy of an explanation as simple "Chi Blocking". It is executed through pressure points, as you have pointed out. We haven't see anyone with the same skill as of yet, and whether we will or not I'd considered a spoiler, even if some would argue it's a mild one.

It‘s pretty scary. I wonder how long it shuts people down. I feel like she would have no chance against Aang tho because she can not catch him. Katara would have to keep her on range but it seems like Sokka would be the best choice to fight her if her go to ability is to shut off bending. He doesn’t bend anyways so that would be actually super interesting

Yea Katara wasn‘t to upset about it so I figured that the bending came back soon because she was just chilling on Appa. Azula has a solid crew. Oh and I see you commenting a lot lately on the Avatar videos. I appreciate the support !

@@shadowreacts Well, yeah, it'll be horrible Idea to just introduce character that can leave you with no bending and immediately make a strike on main character. That's just Devil ex Machina. Why she doesn't train regular army then? Or if it's her unique ability (for whatever reason) - why isn't she's spec ops? With temporary effect, however there's none of those problems and this skill not her being overpowered, but more of a leveling a field type of thing. Ozai's Angels are indeed are solid crew, and you just had a tease of them. Trust me, you wouldn't be disappointed seeing more. Yeah, I'm new to the channel and you rock, man. To bad that out of you material I'm only familiar with ATLA and Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru* and I all caught up on them. * -I have zero idea how "This Bisque Doll Fell in Love" becomes "My Dress-Up Darling" in translators minds, especially considering "doll" parallels, but I'll just gonna murmur curses from the sidewalk instead of being their Judge. Not that I have more here.

I think somebody already said this, but in real life, and I guess in Avatar as well, fire turns blue at a certain heat. So Azula's fire his hotter than the fire of any other firebender we've seen so far.

Michi and Ukano are neglectful of Tom-Tom. They show very little care and attention for his physical safety. Just look at the environment where Tom-Tom was in with Momo. There were no adults watching him and the window was open. Ty Lee’s friendship with Mai is stronger than their friendship with Azula. Ty Lee is not dumb. Mai was completely apathetic to Tom-Tom in the trade because she saw him in Sokka’s arms. She grew up with Azula due to them going to the same school, and thus, she knows what Azula is like. It was a test of her loyalty to Azula. If Mai hadn’t gone along with Azula, then the latter’s reaction wouldn’t have been pleasant. Maybe she would hurt Tom-Tom or Mai’s whole family. This is the same girl who at the age of ten or eleven, grinned with delight while watching her own brother get half of his face set on fire. Hurting her friend’s little brother or her family isn’t that much of a step down. Siding with Azula is the least dangerous option there for everyone involved.

Yes! That‘s why I said how is your child gonna get kidnapped by a damn Lemur !? And who called Ty Lee dumb? Good point on why Mai went with it. She prevented further harm and maybe was also hoping Sokka wasn‘t gonna hurt the kid.

@@horsegirl19951 same, although they balance eachother really well, even the fighting style of Mai and Ty Lee is balanced, Mai being better at long distance and Ty Lee being better at short distance fights. Mai distracts them usually and Ty lee gets close and attacks.

It's called chi-blocking. It only lasts a relatively short time.

I‘m curious what makes you come to that conclusion. Because I‘m pretty confident about my memory and always have been. I would know if I watched something I feel like. That being said the show did come out when I was 7 years old. But I‘m still pretty sure I would know that I watched it 🤨

@@shadowreacts Well, I'm just joking about predictions. Normally I wouldn't do that, because preassigned expectations are what storytelling is all about, and hoping on them isn't out of the ordinary. However you said something that, taken out of context, made me pause and laugh my ass off because of certain events later in the series.
