This car is such a beauty. I had a couple Montes in my youth and they were fun to throw around a dirt road. This brings back so many good memories that I look forward to re-living in smaller scale. This car is definitely on my radar, and it's really nice to see people appreciating the legend.

We run a SR10 class at my local track we run with DVC turned off, we can run Sprinter back tires which makes a big difference in handling and can change shock oil and add limiters inside shocks. Also can change pinion gear. I’m just getting into oval racing but having a blast with it, still have a lot to learn on setting up for changing track conditions but have learned a lot watching your videos. Thanks and keep the awesome videos coming 👍🏻👍🏻 Also you can turn the dvc off in the receiver.

Anthony Mccarty that's awesome to hear! Glad you're enjoying it as well. If I were to build another 2wd open buggy I'd probably go with this car as well for the value. It's all there for sure. Zeuzerman, thats really my biggest complaint and only real complaint at this point. The DVC (Gyro) is easy enough to get around if someone like myself does not want it. But feel most manufacturers know that threaded body shocks are the way to go for a "race kit". I appreciate the comment and support.

I switched out the shock bodies for ae threaded bodies. Stadium truck fronts for the rear, and buggy fronts on the front.

Nick Esposito I'd probably do the exact same thing for sure especially if not racing in the box stock class. Just wished they would have been included.

I agree on the Reciever I raced back in late 80's early 90's on AM now we have a reciever with a Glitch lol.

Zelly lol yeah that can be what it feels like. Its quite unique to say the least. Dont get me wrong tough, I think the gyro has its place and can be very helpful for some people and some areas etc. At the end of the day, its a good car that can meet the needs of various people with a simple turn off or parts switch. Its become a very popular class in our 2WD buggy class locally. But they have the electronics swapped out in it as well.

Open the water proof box, take a small screw driver or pin and push the gain button like 5 times and the gyro is turned off. No changing receivers, or anything like that. Simply push a button.

I looked up the manual for the Radio/receiver and see exactly what you are talking about. I updated video description with this information as well. so that leaves my with only one thing I'd change... the shocks lol. thank you.

I really liked this video the clip spacers on the shocks don’t bother me all that much but I’m with you I think we should get some threaded body shocks on these rtr kits but I don’t like the dvc I haven’t seen it in the oval world but in drag racing you can tell someone is using it even though they are green

Slash Raptor I appreciate the support and comment. I agree the shims don't bother me too much. But I like a quick turn of a collar vs the occasional fumble of shims. Especially if it's a quick adjusting in a heat race.

Great video. It's nice to see a review on dirt ovals like it's intended. Everyone is reviewing it like a DR-10 and are worried about the speed. Street Stock is about out driving the other guy.. JB, can you do a video explaining the difference between 1,2,3, hole shock pistons for dirt oval racing? Our track is always dry, dusty and loose and wondering if pistons would help for street stock and Mudboss? Thank you..

Flying Fortress I greatly appreciate the support and kind words! Coming from Dirt oval and racing buggy street stocks and late models for years in the past. I can confidently say the Reedy 3300KV is more than capable and proven as it and other 13.5 classes have been extremely popular especially around here. I'll add that to my list for future episodes for a shock building 2.0 episode and cover that.

@@jbtricklerc That would be great if you can. I'm going to be doing a video shortly on another street stock that I'm about done restoring.... A 33-34 year old RC-10 gold pan B stamp. Looks like it's one of the first Cadillac RC-10's. It's going to be raced with the Hobby wing 10.5 justock that our tracks run for street stock. I raced these cars 30 some years ago and think it will be a good oval street stock.

@@flyingfortressrc1794 Thats awesome! I'll definitely have to check that out! I love a good vintage car put to good use. I have a friend (I havent seen in a while now due to busy schedules and distance) but he had a couple of them. One was a shelf queen and the other he ran and used often.

you know what the greatest thing about gyro's, if you don't want to run one you don't have to, i've been in rc for over 40 years off and on and i think gyro's run a close 3rd behind brushless and lipo's as the greatest thing to happen to rc cars and for all the so-called purest out there who are always getting their panties all in a bunch over gyro's and calling people who run them cheaters i got some advise, if you don't like gyro's then don't use one, but by my mind the only reason someone would be whining about someone else using a gyro is if that person was faster then you and if that's the case i'm thinking if your driving ability is that lacking you might want to pick yourself up a gyro so you can know what it feels like to go fact for once, with that said gyro's aren't miracle devices, they will help compensate for a little miss in your setup but if your setup sucks a gyro isn't going to save you......

Abruptly blunt I agree they can be a great thing for those that need them. The tracks we race at some use them and some don't. In fact many have started with them and dialed it back then removed them as they were getting setups figured out. Very cool to see. However, many classes also state no gyros allowed. But that's the beautiful thing about dirt oval racing. There is usually a class for everyone out there including a car with it installed. I wouldn't call myself a purist, but with the years involved with racing I've never used one and it personally felt odd to me to have a car that would "override" my input. But, like I said before it's a good thing for those that need them and/or like them. Something for everyone and that's what makes dirt oval great. Thank you for the comment and best of luck in all your RC racing adventures.

The Gyro function can be disabled in this receiver.

That DVC does alot. I switched over to my Sanwa and it is totally different. Like you, I do not like the shocks. We run box stock with exception of receiver, body and shock oil. One thing I think alot of people miss is that the lack of adjustments available in the car is a good thing for a beginner, it keeps the tuning basic and simple. Good review

Jon Lewman I greatly appreciate the support and kind words. Absolutely, when new, driving and keeping it simple is always the way to start. I see people get discouraged sometimes and all it takes is a little help and wheel time, then the bigger lessons can follow.

Man only thing I like about this car is that it's got a lot of new people at our carpetrack to start racing street stocks and get into carpet racing are all the classes almost dead where we had probably 20 cars for all five classes total $20 of cars that's it in the pits on over weeks and now we're up to over 150 cards total because of that class where people are running two or three different classes as well because of that street stock that came out with because people could literally buy a race ready street stock and go racing it's very intimidating a lot of people it's never done it before cuz they don't know where to start on how to build one and this is a great starting point for a lot of those people they once they learn a little bit then they start buying other cars for other classes and then they get the road racing on the carpet and it's just a good thing for racing these cars are I wish they would come out with ready to run modifieds like a mud ball modified or even just a regular a mod like you would run out of the chili bowl for people as well same with a Sprint car and other types of RC oval cars and road course cars that will make the hobby florish for years to come by having ready to race out of the box tenth scale rc cars hell even though I been racing rc carpet oval and inroad tenth scale and I got two cars for every class on both layouts I will even buy a race ready car as well because it's a huge time saver on building your one from ground up with just a chassis kit. If RJ speed sold race ready legends with good tied rods the adjustable threaded ones and not the crappy wire one and put a 20 turn dynamite motor on it with a cheap brushed esc and 2s battery whole complete RJ speed Legends or any car they have would help make it easy for new guys to race cause the youth and younger generation is a microwave generation, they don't wanna have to sit down and build anything they wanna buy it ready to go ASAP and no building involved will help the hobby and rc racing sport as a whole. Hell even if they sold the x-ray F1 carpet runner tire tenth scale cars ready to race they would sell fast and bring lots of new guys to rc tracks. This car is a huge step in the right direction just like the low seat Sprint car you have the 10th scale and the 16th scale ones in latemodel form and sprint car form and at our local huge dirt oval track within 3 weeks of those coming out our sprint car class and latemodel equivalent to the losi slider type went from 6 cars on regular basis to 30-45 show up every weekend to race and had to find d,c,b,a mains every sat night for tenth scale sprints 1/16 scale losi slider only sprint class got 30 cars every sat and losi slider only latemodels got 59 cars on a regular basis and that also attracted the new guys to run 1/5th scale latemodels and modifieds and other classes like street stocks and the A Modified class where you could run a slash brushless lcg highly modified chassis with a real scale modified body they call that style Midwest mods and we used customs dirt works chassis alot to for that class and would go run chilli bowl every year to. But ever since we got a indoor carpet black CRC oval I sold all my dirt cars and went to carpet more fun cleaner don't get full of red clay from working on and cleaning cars it's not hot out in the 110 degree plus heat at night and they are faster with way more grip and you can race oval one week and road course following week and every Thursday is rj speed night.

It's definitely helped get more people into the hobby. It's also become a pretty common car in our two wheel drive open buggy class as well. That's one thing I love about the carpet and even paved oval racing is it is so much easier to clean and maintain lol. But there is something amazing about slugging some dirt. @@jbtricklerc ikr the street stock 2wd open buggy is a blast on dirt is y'all's open class run what your bring street stock as in open motor rule battery and esc? At our big high bank dirt oval we run them on that's what our open 2wd buggy street stock class ism our dirt oval is a huge high bank red clay oval behind hobby town it's meant for 1/5 scale but we run everything there including 1/5 scale. I will run dirt once in a blue moon just to get practice for the chillies bowl and hit every trophy race and money race as well on dirt .

@@youknoweverything7643 Our local open 2wd buggy class is "open" with gearing. Its all a hobbywing 13.5 justock motor and esc and I believe they have about 4 tires to choose from. "Open" for us means open gearing and open to any 2wd rc buggy chassis.

Im in Easley and have yet to be able to go to the Hobby connection bit I watch alm your videos. Could you do a video that breaks down the general scale sizes for each type of racing?

So if a guy has a b4 .2 and had done a silly and stripped out a gear out of the ubiquitous stealth transmission. The said gear is unavailable can I get the drag gear or the oval gear or just the whole gear set and just adjust motor to my liking and still be able to run my beloved b4.2?

Charles that's a great question. I cannot speak for all tracks, but with the open 2WD buggy class we race locally, it's open gear and I think it would be fine.

Are these just 2.2 buggy wheels and tires? If so then opens up lots of tire options!

Dent Guy I believe you're correct. The stock tires have mix reviews. Most people around here take 2.2 buggy wheels and glue on the custom works tires.

HOW DO YOU DISABLE THE REVERSE FEATURE?

Thomas, great question and to be honest, I'm not sure as I don't personally have this car. I even pulled up the ESC's manual to see if it had details on that but did not see anything mentioned. Hopefully someone that sees this comment can help further.

De racing makes tires with that tread pattern. Proline Hoosiers looks like that as well. They have all the compounds that you need. With that said this tread pattern suuuucks lol. I prefer holeshots out doors and a bar tire for indoor clay

Jeff I noticed at the race the other day some were on DE Racing tires. Many racers around here are starting to tune these cars more without the gyro putting their own electronics in them and racing them in the open buggy class with lots of success. Its very cool to see them getting used in different ways.

@@jbtricklerc yeah my track doesn't allow tsm or gyro stuff. My sc street stock class is de racing only. I run the grooved de tires. Not these. I don't have good luck indoors or out doors with the non grooved tires.haha. what would your thoughts be on getting one of these vs say a b6.3. I would not be using any of the electronics in sr10. My sc mod and sc street stock are both mid motor trucks. I here rear motor is better for oval racing but custom works and 57 designs etc are all mid motors for the purpose built cars.

@@jeffbryner5355 honestly from what I've seen. Any is capable. If I'm not mistaking a SR-10 took the 2021 Street Stock Worlds Championship the other weekend. (That episode is coming next). The associated cars currently have more aftermarket and replacement support I believe. But both are capable. I've ran both mid and rear motor cars. I personally don't prefer one over the other. Both are proven in the dirt oval world.

What is the best dirt oval class in the Greenville-Spartanburg area for an absolute beginner with a Traxxas slash.

Lunday Carter great question. Easley usually offers a actual Novice class for beginners. Fountain Inn sometimes has a novice class but always has a breakout class. If not enough novice drivers are there the breakout class would be the next option. The Traxxas Slash is very popular and there are probably 4 classes it can run in from novice to experienced. If you haven't already I recommend checking out my episode where I take a box stock Slash and prep it for dirt oval racing for the Super Street Class. Lots of helpful info in there to help with a dirt oval setup as well.

Being a scale model builder I love how “scale” the SR10 looks and handles compared to a modified Traxxas Slash…but i cant help wondering how much more scale it would be with a solid rear axle, drive shaft and maybe a motor mounted in the front like a real life stock car?…i mean, If RC rock crawlers have perfected a “dana 60” style axle and U-joints, why not for this car? (I know theres a good reason) ….but anyway theres an SR10 in my shopping cart, i cant resist:)

Monstrolab awesome! Hope you enjoy it. It's a fantastic car. I've watched many friends racing them and changing them to different classes and such. Hope you enjoy yours. That's a great question as well and haven't thought too much about it. Just like crawlers the RC drift world also offers cars with a more scale drivetrain as well. I imagine it could be done but never seen it tried before.

@@MonstroLab thank you for that. It's always good to know when someone finds the channel helpful. Oh yeah they are more than capable. A SR-10 won the Street Stock Worlds at Fountain Inn. All they did was change ESC and motor to what was legal in that class and boom won the open buggy class. Several run them stock in breakout class and sometimes if enough show up they run a class of their own in box stock form. Best of luck and hope you have a blast with it.

JBTrickleRC thanks! so i been driving my SR10 around a large old parking lot (recently tarred) next to my house that i get all to myself Sundays. It is NOT smooth lot BTW and any carbon pan car would get destroyed but not this Sr10! So since I really really like it on blacktop so im sure ill love it on a dirt track and cant wait find one here in central west Florida. Keep up the cool vids im loving the synth wave sound tracks and 80’s neon graphics with the rc racing

Its pretty much the same here. They did have a class for these cars specifically for a while and they do allow them in the breakout class as well. They just didn't take off like some thought they would. At least not locally for us.

I hear ya there. Its been a common complaint. Maybe Associated will address this in the future. My local racers have had good luck with the DE racing tires I believe.

The esc is very cheap the 3300 kg motor is very slow even after a gear change the tires are very low quality really cant say anything good about it

James I can definitely understand. Most guys that run them locally have converted them to our 13.5 class and run the Bandito tires I believe. The stock tires can work, just takes a lot of prep work to soften them, so most just change.
