TEACHING FROM HOME: A Day in the Life (My Routine, Virtual Lessons) VLOG

Hi Teachers! Today I decided to share a DAY IN THE LIFE of teaching from home. Remote Teaching can be tricky, but I am happy to say that I have finally found a routine that works for me. I hope you enjoy finding out about my teaching from home routine, as well as how I organise my virtual lessons and classwork. Remote teaching can be difficult, but as primary school teachers we are used to adapting - I know we can adapt to make the most of this situation too, for our children/ students. Keep up the amazing work, Teachers!

Thank you for leaving such a kind comment. It has made me feel so good today - knowing what I create is being appreciated. Don’t feel too skeptical - people share more of the bad times than the good unfortunately. I love my job, busy as it may be! Good luck and stay in touch if you need anything xx

I love this, currently a teacher trainee, have my own class (we’re using google classroom) and I’m finding it hard to have a regular routine but watching this video helped. Hopefully I’ll have a more productive week this week:)

It’s taken a long time to get a routine going. We’ve been teaching remotely for maybe 15-16 weeks now so I’ve had a long time to build these systems! We use a lot of google classroom too.. it’s still frustrating after all this time when files get changed or deleted. But at least we are giving it all our best shot! Have a good & productive week! X

Great to see how you are adapting. I'm a current primary school teacher too. At the moment, teachers are on a rota and have to pop into school every 2 weeks. When at home, we are creating home learning grids for the children and doing online lessons. It's been interesting.... haha. Love the videos :)

@@ForTeachersChannel I'm teaching in the South of Thailand. We are currently going into school without the students there. On Mondays and Wednesdays I call them in groups of 2 or 3 and we chat, read a story, play games (using screen share) and I explain the work they have to. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I call them individually for 20 to go over the work. I use screen share again to write or draw and they can show me their completed work over webcam.

This is a really useful video - even though its pretty different from my reality at the moment! It's nice to see that you've found a new normal and routine. Do you find it harder to separate yourself from work now its at home? It's so easy to want to finish just one more thing...

Sometimes I forget the work day has ended and just carry on working. It’s actually really difficult to separate it - you’re right! But other days if I have no motivation it’s hard to get started. Why is your situation so difficult at the moment ? (Understandably, but I am curious!) xx

Loved this video. It is so important to have a routine in the current situation, this is something that I have struggled with since my PGDE course ended early in March. Hopefully by the time I get my own class in August things will be a bit better. I would drink green tea with lemon or green tea with mint when I was on placements :)

Thank you for sharing your current situation! You will love having your own class, even if it’s all happening in a slightly unusual order at the moment. I remember feeling so free when my first class were properly mine. Thank you for the tea suggestions too, I feel like I’m a tea rut and it’s a bit boring having the same two. I love matcha so need to get some green tea in! 💖 Have a restful Sunday x

I'm TEFLing in Shenzhen (we're practically neighbours lol). We've been doing online classes for over 3 months and I am so sick of it, I've been here since October so I've actually been teaching online for longer than I was teaching in person which is a little depressing. I'm definitely not getting out as much these days and I don't think that's been good for either my physical or mental health but things are much better here than they are back in the UK so I can't really complain too much. Schools are reopening here so hopefully my private tuition centre will be able to soon, I can't wait to get back in a physical classroom and be around my colleagues and students again! Also I wanted to let you know that I watched your video about teaching abroad about a year ago which led me to looking into TEFL and coming to China so I should really thank you for that! Not sure I'd even be here if I hadn't watched that so yeah thanks haha

Ahhhh I absolutely love hearing things like this. I’m so happy to know that I’ve made an impact somehow! We are global neighbours and that’s pretty special. If you ever visit Hong Kong you must let me know! I really miss being in an actual classroom too. I hope things will start to look up soon. What age do you teach? I always imagine centres as younger, but I know there are some older students too.

  • @CharlieDouglas

    @CharlieDouglas

    4 жыл бұрын

@@ForTeachersChannel yeah my centre is pretty young, the majority of my students are between 3 and 6. I like them at that age because they're adorable, but at the same time I think I would find teaching slightly older, higher level students more interesting and more satisfying. I went to Hong Kong just before Christmas and absolutely loved it! I can't wait to go back and one day I'd like to work there if the stars align haha. in fact I think I'd like to be doing what you do, so maybe I can follow in your footsteps eventually

Great video! My school has been closed since 20th March. Our learning platform (Century) wasn’t ready until the second week of lockdown though. My routine is ticking along nicely now but is very different to what I’m seeing others doing. I do teach nursery though so it’s expected.

Century has it’s pros and cons. It has pre loaded assignments but most are aimed at upper KS2 and KS3/KS4. Personally I’d much like SeeSaw as it’s much more user friendly. I’m teach at a primary school in Blackpool, England so we’re currently preparing to reopen from the 8th June. Have you been given a date to return in Hong Kong?

I didn’t actually complain about my routine in the video did I? I don’t mind it and adjusted well. The sad part is missing the connection with my students - I trained as a teacher because I like to connect with them properly. Also, I’m back in the classroom now after 16 weeks of this routine. Always happy to work with whatever system is expected of me. I don’t know if your comment was meant in a negative way, but I am proud of my efforts to create a routine. Plus yes .. I did eat an awful lot :,) I hope you are well, wherever you are in the world!

Thanks for sharing this, it was awesome to see! One question, if students need help during the day, how do they contact you? We have an open Zoom for maths and english and have called it a 'help desk'- the kids are really liking it! But it means, we are planning for the next day after school hours quite often as there isn't much time during the day! We've been at it almost 6 weeks now! But heading back to school slowly each week. Im in Australia :).

  • @ForTeachersChannel

We actually have emails with students so they can contact any time. They are actually very respectful and don’t send too many! We zoom each morning so they have plenty of time to get their questions answered. I find the time management so difficult too! But after 16 weeks, it’s starting to make sense. Hope you are okay with everything and looking after yourself too xx

Hi. I'm Ronei, from Brazil. I teach English to middle schoolers. We've been working from home since mid March and I have to confess: it's been tough! We have several limitations here. Many students have restricted access to the internet and some of them have none. We've been only sending them activities through Whatsapp and receiving pictures of their activities through the same app. Brazil is doing poorly in regards to the pandemic (more than 136,000 deaths and still counting) and the governors now have the nerve to say that we will be returning to classroom next month. Unbelievable!
