Yeah like you said getting going is the worst part in the beginning, Especially on hills and inclines. But after some time it just becomes muscle memory and almost second nature. A hill was my confidence breaker.

The things all manual drivers should know. 1. How to shift when the clutch fails. Yes, it is possible and all about timing and sync. 2. How to start the car when the battery is dead and no jumper cables are available; "pop the clutch". 3. How to spin the tires for a split second whilst shifting into 2nd. "Second gear squelch," as my dad liked to call it. He liked to race and fix up cars. 4. How to sit on an incline without using the break; only clutch, gas, and first gear rocking. Lots of other fun tricks, but those are the most important and crucial. And never pop the clutch after shifting from high to 1st going 65. That will turn some things into dust and require a transmission fix. Did this at 16. Oops.

My first and ONLY time was in '89. Red Toyota MR2. In my confidence was up. Stop sign and stoplights easy peasy. But, uphill side street knocked me off that cloud. I'm 54 now and havent tried again. I will add, I wasnt officially legally licensed to drive, yet.
