    Not exactly related but my I made awful grades until a day in 5th grade. My teacher talked to my mom about it and she got me diagnosed with ADHD and got me on medication and I proceeded to make A’s and B’s. Four years later I come back for the festival and she still remembers who I am.

    These kinda depress me knowing that most of the students who do well in hs fall short later in life.. Im thinking mental breakdown/burnout? I just started college and i can feel how unhappy it makes me compared to how well i did in hs

  • @V.Hansen.

    @V.Hansen.

    I struggled a bit in college as well. I felt afloat. I didn't know what I was doing. My parents were ok but not at all hands on and they didn't help me before or after hs. I was independent but still clueless. I started feeling nervous about my student loans (which were not very big) and quit to work. Stupidest thing I ever did. My life is good and fine but I love knowledge and should have had an extensive education. If you have a subject you like don't give up like I did. It is different and harder but not as hard as not having the life you should have worked for. See the counselors. Talk to teachers. Seek the support that will help. I was so introverted I wouldn't have asked for help if I had thought to probably. Best of luck!

    No. It's actually strict parenting and falling to temptations due to not being used to the freedom. We can see that good students who did not have strict parenting do good as well, as well as students with strict parenting and high self control and mental fortitude.

    Not a teacher, but I have a story from when I was in school. In middle school, there was this typical problematic kid- skipped almost all his classes, instead spent his time in the school yard disrupting other classes; swore like a sailor; got into fights; the whole package. Then we got to high school, and I don't know what changed, but he did a complete 180 and became the teacher's pet. Like, he helped the PE teacher manage the school teams, helped organize our prom and graduation ceremonies, was walking around with the head teacher all day helping out with stuff... it was amazing to watch.

    As a high school over achiever who is now depressingly average: I burnt out. Teachers and parents only cared about my academics, and I was good at it, so it felt good to succeed. No adults cared about my social skills, it was a small class and I was the only one who even read fiction for fun, for example, so it was hard to make friends. My parents didn't care because I was well behaved and had good grades. I was miserable but had a close relationship with my family. When I went to college I had two years of really good grades, but still no friends, and now family was too far away to even visit. The third year, I had a breakdown, failed two classes, realized I hated my major and was only doing it for my mom. Changed major to something else that I still feel i might have had a chance in, but the mental and emotional problems were unresolved and I passionately hated one of my teachers and ended up failing her class. I switched majors to something easy, and made a couple of friends, and graduated with a major i had no intention of using, just to graduate to appease my parents. I work retail now. I have to intention of going to any high school reunion, you couldn't pay me enough to go back there.

    I got expelled from primary school. I got expelled from a school for people with behavioral problems. I nearly got expelled from secondary school. I dropped out of college. I did all my 6th form work in the last 2 months of a 2 year course. I dropped out of university. I am now essentially being groomed for a more senior role in the company I work for. Sometimes it isn't that students make a transformation. Sometimes, the education system just stimulates the wrong parts of people and measure people by unrealistic and non-compelling means. How does someone deal with school when it isn't intellectually challenging them? How does one deal with secondary school when they have no autonomy and no defense against the bullies. How does one deal with college when the teachers have to cater their methods to the lowest common denominator, which doesn't work for others? How does one invest in coursework that doesn't represent a realistic scenario and stimulates no investment? How does one deal with the first time they get real autonomy for the first time in their life with mandatory modules that are taught by someone it is impossible to stay awake through? This is my educational journey. I have thrived in work because I can feel my efforts making a difference and having value and making impact.

He could probably solve one in less than 15 seconds if he tried really hard. He found two friends who always misbehave and they got into Rubik’s cubes too. One was your stereotypic athletic type and the other was that annoying acts like he’s rich kid. My friend got fed up and stopped bringing his cube to school and now he tries to distance himself from those two wastes of spaces

    Parents, the thing you teach your kid to do they will most likely do the opposite in the future If you teach them to be a strict, stuck up, smart asshole and only get good grades and if they don’t they are a failure. They will most likely end up to be a fun dumbass or a druggie

    I had one hell of a great English teacher in prep class (we had to take a prep class before going onto 7th grade to learn 4 languages) and she cared for her students ( me specifically)in a way that you couldn’t tell until years later when you think back and realize woah they really looked out for me, until that grade I was really shit at grammar and spelling and she taught me all that and more with her little fun games in class and now I can spell even foreign words I’ve never heard of immediately, anyway After some time my group of friends who I was so happy to have found started treating me like absolute shit and it kicked off my depression and started flunking out in grades, my teacher talked to me about staying in their dorms and I agreed for some reason and got to stay there for so long and met amaZING caring people who to this day I’m fond of, after a few years Me and some friends stayed in that dorm for one night and I found out how much money it costs for someone to stay as long as I did and I was blown away, why would any teacher ever do that wow

    none of these magic moments ever happened for me. I tried my hardest but i had to try my absolute best to amount to barely average. I never met any of these life changing magical people that change your life. Annoys the hell out of me when you hear of these student who barely turn up at class/are trouble makers yet they get average -good grades without trying and you keep hearing they don't live up to their potiential and these are the ones teachers care about the most.

    basicloner also it’s not always like that once I got to highschool I had teachers who would give me the hardest time (when I was at the peak of my depression in 10th grade oof) and then there was this one teacher among all the assholes who wouldn’t write me absent when I would skip classes and would leave me to my own pace to grow and encouraged me to love studying

    Not a teacher and not really transformation, maybe one in progress?, but my friend was having a going away party in January. She's gone to the UK on a work visa and threw a party for everyone she knew. I know many of the old gang from highschool were going to be there and I was honestly kind of worried. I had graduated university, but had failed to find any job for years, had moved to doing KZread videos, have seen left that and am working on self-publishing books, and was worried that I was going to be the one who had done nothing with their life. Honestly, the last few years have been rough emotionally, but I've grown up and evolved a lot and feel like I'm finally becoming a full-realized person, just with not much for show for it, yet. So, I went in expecting to be a little embarrassed. I had forgotten however that all of my friends are millennials and turns out I'm actually the well-adjusted one! My friend going to the UK had an emotional breakdown after highschool and has been a bartender for years, another friend is on disability and stuck in an apartment with a bipolar exboyfriend, another friend is a graphic designer, but had a seriously bad relationship that she's only just managed to get out of, and the last friend had only just managed to finally find a job that he didn't actively loathe. I told them that I was doing some emotional self-care and making KZread videos and they were all like "How?! How are you able to be happy?!" Still, was wonderful to see them again, we all saw each other and immediately picked up right where we left off like we had never been apart! That's true friendship right there!

    I personally spend my days doing bugger all, hoping to read in the news somewhere that the people in my old class suddenly died a horrible death or something. I was THE most well behaved students, and one of the smartest going, till eventually every thug and scumbag the teachers happily let sit by me upon request took their toll, and made getting my predicted grades and social skills completely impossible. Now i sit here in supported accommodation for youth homelessness, with bugger all going for me. Only the rich, or the bullys get anywhere.

    @@rogueuniversities6866 Hi! I moved out of the supported accommodation into a decent council flat just over a year ago. Now on medication, which stops me thinking about past things as much. In terms of the necessities, stuffs all good. Cosy and safe. The only problem that remains is that i still have absolutely no idea what im gonna do after all that. I turn 23 this month (rip). Tried to join the army awhile back as my default fall back option, but due to being on the spectrum i was rejected (100% purity needed no ifs or buts). Jobwise nothing interests me, not fussed for money. However, i do now enjoy my new hobby of investing, where i grew my portfolio %40 within 3 months :D. So as of now its all about waiting, and waiting, and waiting, till my bank goes up a lil bit so i can keep playing with investments again. And as soon as the millionth covid semi-lockdowns lift, im gonna try and attend some social events. Still just sat here though, not going up or down. Thought trying some medical trials would be a laugh (plus pays well) but again can't lol.

    @@LupusGelos This is the weirdest reply I've ever seen - not because you are weird, but virtually everything you've written describes a former friend - on the autism spectrum, was in supported accommodation about two years ago, has lived in her own flat - albeit not council-owned, to my knowledge - for about a year, though I don't think she ever did investments as she'd have probably been too worried about scams - spooky.

    @@LupusGelos Oh yeah that's different from my former friend. Her mother seemed to have plenty of money - she even treated me on my birthday. I later learned it was all part of her overall manipulation (the mother, not my former friend). I miss my friend so much though
