As a former teacher (retired in 2019) that was always my biggest problem...contacting parents. The worst case I ever had to deal with was In the Fall of 2001 (the 5th week of school). I had tried to contact a (single)parent using the "Emergency" card she left in the front office from 1st week of school. Not only was her (Landline/cellphone) not a working number; but the 3 other numbers she left were not usable either. This included the "father's" landline/cell phone number. On the back of the Emergency card were 3 more phone numbers. One was a former room mate who had not heard from this parent in 3 years. The second number was a "FORMER" employer, who she had not worked for in 2 years. The last number wasn't a working number either. We finally had to ask her son (7th grader)to come down to the office. When he came in we asked him how to reach his mom. He pulled out his cell phone and called mom. You could hear mom on the other end of phone. She was clearly upset, reminding her son; "Did I not tell you to never call me here during the day..." My administrator motioned for the boy to hand him the cell phone. He told her who he was; and then instructed her to come down to the school as soon as she was able. Reason: she had given false information on the Emergency card and needed to update it NOW. This was also a week after 9/11! For all those who do not see a problem...if there had been a serious emergency (child hurt, ambulance called, trip to ER...etc)how would we notify MOM?!!!!! Also, this was not the only parent to do this, but it was the most serious. BECAUSE none of the numbers that she had provided were numbers we could use in case of emergency!

Thank you God for my retirement. Some of my students didn't know where their parents were employed, emergency numbers were non-existent; but if student earned a low grade on report card, then parents called school "demanding conference" with that bleep teacher ."

@@mildredjenkins7684 I had a parent blame me for “giving up on her child” when I emailed her saying I “was at a loss for what to do” after sending her failing notices for 4 months straight as he was unwilling to show up on time and make even a half-effort to do any work the entire school year. 😒

Parents want to be compensated for doing OUR jobs, but we do THEIR jobs from 8am - 3pm...lol! Now it's time for the parents to execute the "I do, we do, you do!" HILARIOUS!!! 🤣😆😂

Michelle It’s called appreciating the work that teachers do. You obviously are not a teacher. And just to clue you in-- this woman is appreciative of the work teachers do with kids--a lot of us have gone beyond our work hours to TEACH the parents how to navigate the computer systems that the kids have to use😳. And most systems didn’t put training in place for the parents---THAT, my dear, was left on our shoulders. We didn’t get trained extra or paid extra for that🤯🤨. We are helping the parents, so that the parents can help the kids😳. So--stop with the foolishness. If this nice lady wants to appreciate her grandchild’s nice teacher-🤫 and let her. ✌🏾

I think both parents and teachers have had to show grace and empathy with regard to remote learning. Most parents were thrust into a teaching role for which they were not prepared, and having to use technology was not easy. If parents struggled while working with their own children, walk in the shoes of teachers who may have 20-30 students in a class at one time. Even teachers have found it challenging to juggle online instruction with providing assistance to their own children who are of school age. This is a learning experience for us all.

At our school we have been measuring temperatures with an automated thermometer from thermosignal.com so we don’t have to have someone dedicated to taking temperatures, it’s saving us a lot of time
