I really love your channel and I wish you all the best. I have to say though, that this is one of the extremely rare times when I disagree with your interpretation of facts. I think you skipped over the most important part of Haiti’s history, which was the part where France imposed an agreement on Haiti to pay them reparations for whooping them so brutally in trying to free themselves from their rule. This can’t be ignored when bringing up all the corruption and unstable governments that followed. If you really dig into what happened and the timeline, I think Haiti might be the only country that has a good case for deserving reparations. Their crazy debt made no sense.

46:10 chattel slavery was practiced long before the usa did it. Serfdom in essence was highly controlled chattel slavery, as often children were sold from their parents by the lord of the land often into more serfdom where the same would occur.. serfdom was never ending toil. Many lords were kind, would allow travel. Many lord were the opposite wouldnt allow the basics. What was practiced in the west was just a rushed form of that.

1:02 Greek Orthodox Christians were enslaved for 400 yrs, …what’s more, they ended slavery 1000 yrs ago, in the longest running empire in world history. The Eastern Orthodox Christian, Roman Empire, with its capital in Constantinople (falsely named Byzantine Empire ), ended slavery 1000 yrs ago, via FREE WILL. While at the same time, people groups, informed by other, denominations, world views, or other religions, doubled down on it. Almost 800 to 1000 yrs later, via threat of violence, bloody civil wars, and political conflict, …slavery was banned, by FORCE, at the end of a gun. Officially to this day, the GlοωβαrhLu$T west, still couldn’t put an end to slavery via FREE WILL. TRUE Christian morality, led by glittering Constantinople, achieved this significant world first event, …yet most of the world is clueless to this fact, why?…There was no need for the civil war in the USA, we could have simply learnt from Constantinople, 900 years earlier. ......”Slavery became common within much of Europe during the Dark Ages and it continued into the Middle Ages. The Byzantine-Ottoman wars (1265-1479) and the Ottoman wars in Europe (14th to 20th centuries) resulted in the capture of large numbers of Christian slaves. The Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese, British, Arabs and a number of West African kingdoms played a prominent role in the Atlantic slave trade, especially after 1600. In the Eastern part of the one and only Roman (wrongly coined Byzantine) Empire, slaves became quite rare by the first half of the 7th century[1] A shift in the view of slavery is noticed, which by the 10th century transformed gradually a slave-object into a slave-subject.[2] From 11th century, semi-feudal relations largely replaced slavery, seen as "an evil contrary to nature, created by man's selfishness", although slavery was permitted by the law.”…ωικιρεδια

The messed up thing is that slave owning families were receiving compensation or reparaitions from the UK government up to 2015. Generations of slave owning families have inherited great wealth and privilege from forced labour and stolen resources while the descendents of slaves have only inherited disadvantage. That said, slavery ended in part because of British people pressuring their government. Also most people living in the UK at that time were working in poor houses and being treated very much like slaves.

@@Skygrey2943Do tell me exactly what families have never made money on anything else than slavery? It's also laughably ridiculous that you believe that it's comparable with giving money to random blacks today. The business agreement was made hundreds of years ago, and that is the essential part. These perpetual victims demands to make a agreement today. Big difference. When do you think that the government should have broken the contract and stopped paying back the money that it promised to pay? You and these grifters always give the Arabs a pass, even though they enslaved more people and were much more brutal during and for a lot longer than the West. Same thing with the fact that slavery existed throughout human history. It's not an African thing. The west only used Africans because other Africans started to sell the cheapest labor. It's ridiculous notion that the very people who actually did the enslaving should get a pass from you people. It really highlights your hateful racism towards white people. White people ended slavery. White people fought wars, in some cases against African people just in order to stop them from selling people. Why isn't that enough reparations?

Also adopting the name Dracula (Son of the dragon or devil) to scare the invaders even hearing his name. The impaled forest he created to scare the invaders had to be pure nightmare fuel. I'm shoddy on the history completely though. I know part of his reason of fighting back is because the islamic invaders kept conscripting kids and young men to force them to fight for them. Which was arguably a way worse form of slavery as the women were immediately sold into sex slavery and the men were almost all castrated and forced to row ships until they literally died. If they made it they were forced to build things for them and were kept in extremely overcrowded jails where they died from malnutrition and disease.

The focus is so heavily levied against the west, they completely gloss over everything including the rich oil barons and Saudi princes in the Middle East to the African kingdoms that profited highly off their slave trades. When you understand the scope and scale of it, you begin to see the truth. When these same questions are brought up against the pro reparations crowd, they deflect, obfuscate, and lie. Then you realize it has nothing about correcting a past wrong, and everything to do with power dynamics and taking what others have.

My family is Japanese/French canadian. My grandmother was born and raised in Okinawa and barely spoke English. When she was 8, both of her parents died. She was raised by her two sisters and brother who were only a few years older than her. Not only that, but she lived in a cave with her brother and sisters when America invaded Okinawa. She met my grandfather when he was stationed there in the Air Force and she married him, had a family, moved to America, worked and retired. She died 2 years ago, having lived a fulfilled life, even after the shit she went through. Will I get reparations for her home being invaded by America? Or how about the family she had that lived in Hiroshima when it was bombed? She indeed did have family there. Gone in the blink of an eye. Reparations for us too? Or is it only for black people today 😢who ALSO haven’t gone through REAL disgusting acts of humanity? This convo is stupid. Black people weren’t the only slaves. While people were enslaved during the Barbary slave trades. Who amongst them gets reparations?

This is a key point ! Europeans didn’t invent the African slave trade, it was in full flow before any white folk turned up. Now we know, and are appalled by Europeans taking advantage of / increasing the trade in Africans but Africans themselves need to be honest about what really happened. AND what is going on there today, right now.

Slavery was universal, and the British tried to put a stop to it. The king of Bonny (in what is now the Nigerian delta) was so dismayed by the prospect of ending slavery that he wrote "We think this trade must go on. That is the verdict of our oracle and the priests. They say that your country, however great, can never stop a trade ordained by God himself." King Gezo (from present day Benin) said in the 1840's he would do anything the British wanted him to do apart from giving up slave trade: "The slave trade is the ruling principle of my people. It is the source and the glory of their wealth…the mother lulls the child to sleep with notes of triumph over an enemy reduced to slavery…". Slaves were taken from rival tribes or were criminals. Those sold to the trans Atlantic slave trade (most of whom went to Brazil) were the lucky ones. It was customary to sacrifice slaves on a grotesque scale, in ways far too graphic to describe here. (Plenty of eye witness accounts and even early photographic evidence from the late 1800s).

The conquered people then had to throw off the yoke of their Haitian oppressors in their own war for independence. Living well compared to their neighbors is arguably the best revenge for the Dominican people.

The British taxpayer had already paid off the debt to free the slaves from the slave owners, and this money was paid by British families across several generations. Now, there are calls for the British public (interestingly, no demand is made on descendants of the slave owners receiving payment) to pay reparations again, which, in my opinion, is double dipping. In addition to the "freedom" payment, the Royal Navy's West Africa Squadron, funded by the British, captured 1,600 slave ships and freed 150,000 Africans from these ships between 1808 and 1860. Approximately 2,000 sailors from the squadron died fighting to free the slaves. Should the families of these sailors be owed reparations for being left fatherless?
