As I was watching your videos my Border Collie/Labrador Mix 10 week old puppy began watching you on my Macbook- fixed to the screen. Last week I taught him learned to sit, stay and lye down. He's smart, but I didn't expect him to watch a video till the end! I adopted him from the local shelter, puppy mill was busted. :) Love your videos, so does Baxter!

Stonnie, I have been watching your videos and have implemented much of what you are doing. I have a 10-week old Chocolate lab that looks forward to the treks through the woods and river banks near here. Still working on the behavior a little but she is getting there. Thanks for posting, great information.

I'm hailing from the great north shore of Lake superior in February...we have 70+" of snow and I have been stressing about how to get our new puppy acclimated to a locked down winter season! You inspired me to strap on my snowshoes and mukluks and bundle up and head into the woods! our Hazel (GSD) is a champ at learning and negotiating! what a superb 11 wk old young lady we have! thanks for a super common sense approach to exposing our pup to our lives! God bless ya!

My biggest reason to go out in the cold: my dog loves it and can go longer in it. I may hate the cold, but love seeing her love it!

Watching your videos reminds me of wandering through the woods with my lab puppy when I was young growing up in MS. We had so much fun. I'm fortunate now to live close enough to a huge state park that off leash is allowed. So my current lab can run through brush or swim or climb or basically do what his heart desires.

Lol! It's a good job your wife knows you from the 50 years you've been together! Good video Mr Dennis. As my late father used to say, there's no such thing as bad weather, just a bad choice of clothing!

Great advice - my 12 week red lab hated the rain in Seattle. I've sat out in the rain with her giving her treats for longer than I'd like to admit, but I was patient and now she doesn't hesitate and even loves the snow. We went to the river this past weekend and I let her run around on the long lead and to my surprise she just went straight in and rolled around in the water even though I haven't done any water socialization yet.

Awesome, and as a family, we've benefited so much from your videos, Stonnie! Thanks for the inspiration,; even though I can't serve with a dog-handler in bikini picutre, lol, sorry! We've taken the dogs to a camping ground for a few days last week, then to a holiday rental, and all those new environments, they mastered well. Why? Because we've followed your advice to keep getting out there, doing something new every day (with the puppy in particular), and now, if she's nervous about 3 big dogs barking at her from behind a fence, whilst lorries are racing past a short distance away (like happened yesterday), she can handle it.

Your training videos are awesome I have a 11 week old puppy and at first she did not want to go outside in the cold to go potty but I kept taking her out and playing with her outside and after a week of spending time in the cold she now goes out with having to be asked and does her stuff o problem people said I was mean to have her outside in the cold but if I had she would not have grown to be able to be in the cold

I love this video. So many things you said I had never thought about. It should be obvious that everything is a new experience to a puppy....lol, I never thought of it that way. Thanks for putting this out. Great stuff!

So true, I had to add to it and waterproof with balloons to train when they go into the city and have to deal with ground chemicals. So pup had a blast in the snow with them, she was like a kid with new sneakers on- run faster and jump higher, totally crazy and silly. Thank God I have been training her on everything so she took to it, actually stayed on her feet even be crazy Aussie/ border collie high-test. She actually lays in the snow despite the lack of undercoat. Like me she got acclimated to cold but under zero F was too much. brrrrrrrrrrr

Do you have any recommendations for how/when to socialize a ~7mo to water? I only adopted him 2 months ago, and I want him to be comfortable with the water, but I’m worried that if I wait until summer it will be harder to get him comfortable. He has been doing great with climbing trees, rocks, etc, and the recent snow gave him good experience with that too. How cold is too cold for a dog with a thinner coat/not a lot of fat?

I'm always worried about over playing a small puppy... my lab is 8 weeks right now and he is our 2nd dog (the other is 10 month old lab) you always have people saying that they are to young for activity. What age do you start this?

Your puppy has probably grown now but regardless you will know when your puppy is tired. "Don't overdo it" is good advice but it depends highly on the dog. When puppy is tired it will become less focused, will go sniff things around, lay down when you stop etc. So keep an eye on these signs of fatigue and you will know.

weather slowed some planned training and potty train been a bit off balance; daughter and wife had pup out a few times - no go, however had few deposit right after coming in????! rebellion? Pup has a high percentage of pottys when I walk in familiar spots, though. Urine seems to be troubling, small amounts most time and low percentage on puppy pads.

Puppies don't do rebellion or go potty to make you mad. I would keep puppy outside longer. Most pups don't have full control of their bladder and may need to go multiple times before being done. However, if pup doesn't go, then pup needs to go back into crate for 10-15mins before another try. Carry pup to crate if you must to avoid an accident. I found my pup would stop going if I picked her up
