    I was a teen mom. One of my older brothers would watch my daughter while I was attending cosmetology school. By the time my daughter started preschool, he had taught her the alphabet, counting to 100, and primary colors. And she was almost at 1st grade level reading. Now that I'm a grandma, I'm trying to figure out how to implement these learning skills to my 8m old grandson. I am so grateful to come across your channel. I cannot say thank you enough!!!!

    Great Video clip! Apologies for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you tried - Millawdon Future Ticket Trick (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great one off guide for teaching children to read minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate got astronomical results with it.

    This video is extremely helpful, thank you! Can I request that you make a more in-depth video of you actually doing the card with your baby. I want to know exactly how fast I should be going, What words are best to start with etc..

    You’re welcome! I certainly can do that. I have a day of the life with an infant video planned, and it will show more of exactly how and what I teach during the day. For the speed at which I show the words look at time 3:47 on this video. I show the words/letters at that speed every time. I have a list of the first 300 words that I make flash cards with. They include the most frequently used words in the English letter. I’m sending that out in my newsletter for this month. Go to my website: www.1brittanykelly.con and sign up for the newsletter so you can get the whole list ❤️.

    @@haleynaytah9829 Lol! Yes, they like it better fast and their brains are sooo amazing for language under 3 that they will still pick it up. Fast but repetitive is key. At 1 month old their eyesight isn’t too good yet. Build auditory language by speaking to them a lot and reading books. During this time you can start printing and laminating your sight words so that you have 300 prepared before you begin. This makes it easier to be consistent. Around 4 to 6 months is a good time to start with the flashcards. It’s an easier and more enjoyable time to start after reaching the unassisted sitting milestone. Also, start using ASL in your daily routine. I’m looking forward to capturing our full learning day and sharing. It’s actually fun to do.

    My understanding is that it’s ideal to teach the sounds m s t r a and b first in reading. I just learned this from some reading specialists. How’s your baby doing now? Thanks for sharing!

    Nice! I don’t follow that order with my kids and they all read by 2-3 years old. Babies and toddlers have an unconscious absorbent mind at this age, which may be the reason why it wasn’t necessary to follow that order to achieve great results. I think the most shocking thing was how at 3 my daughter was able to pick the sounds to read in Spanish and Mandarin pinyin as well. Then began reading in those languages too. It was as if the sound of symbols (letters) being in focus as a baby opened up that focus for other languages and made learning them easier. I’m not sure of the first sound suggestions for those languages, but we didn’t find it necessary at this age as well. Thanks for watching! I love exploring this topic.

    We have a 3 week old, I’m really determined to read with her and develop her language skills at a young age. We bought about 8 books to get us started, how would you suggest we divvy them up? I was shocked to hear you say to read 12 books a day 😮 would you suggest I just read all we have everyday until we have more? Also she sleeps most of the time, should I read anyway or ideally wait for her to be awake? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to get it right! Thanks for an awesome video, I’ve already subscribed ❤

    That’s totally normal and to be expected. Just quickly finish up reading as if you are reading it to yourself and move on. Try picking a time where they aren’t busy doing anything else. That’s why I try to do it around mealtime for a few minutes, because they are already sitting there lol.

    We are a bilingual family. How would you recommend we use these techniques on our baby, in the dominant language (English) or the less dominant language that he only hears from his mom? Worried about confusing him and ending up stunning his language growth. Thinking of teaching this technique in my language, then have dad teach him in English?

  • @BrittanyKellyTV

    @BrittanyKellyTV

    Great question! My children are learning other languages as well. At this age they will not get confused. They have the ability to compartmentalize each language. If you are doing one-parent-one-language as your method of bilingualism have each parent present the words of that language separate from the other parent. When we had a Spanish babysitter she presented words to our baby in Spanish only. I presented words in English only. I hope that helps.

  • @BrittanyKellyTV

    @BrittanyKellyTV

    3 жыл бұрын

    You can still teach her the sounds, because it is a necessary part of reading phonetically. Just say “A says ah” and so on when introducing the sounds. Then switch fully to asking for the sound instead of the letter name. She will know both. Take your time, be consistent and she will absorb the new information. 💗
