A giant dead sea? Camels in Europe? During stage 2 of the Tour de France, the peloton will pass the geological remains of one of the most spectacular events in geological history: the Messinian Crisis of the Mediterranean. At this time did the Nile flow out into a dry Mediterranean and make a lake? Or did other rivers that currently flow into the Mediterranean do the same for that matter?
