I loved how wide spanning this conversation was: from re-recording her masters, to the vault tracks, her prior experience directing, and the female writer/directors who inspire her. I was so excited to hear her reference Nora Ephron as a big inspiration for her. maybe I'll have to eat my words and she WILL get an Oscar at some point. Though it definitely will not be for acting.
anyway hope you enjoyed! let me know your thoughts in the comments, per usual xo

The fact that there are Taylor Swift courses in college now and the professors DON'T reference our swiftologist, is essentially educational malpractice.

Just a little side note-Taylor is technically the most successful indie artist of all time (Mainstream refers to mainstream or large well known labels like Sony, indie refers to small "individual" labels as Big Machine was when SB signed her as his first artist. Taylor only changed labels after Reputation so her first 6 albums were all indie albums)
i feel like for those who have been in weird age gap relationships as the younger one, (speaking from exp) when u get older, ESPECIALLY when you’re the same age they were when they pursued you, it awakes this rage bc it rly crystallizes how FUCKING weird it is. Demi Lovato’s song 29 captures this feeling perfectlyyy.

she can do it !
I feel really sad when she talks about almost being intimidated or holding back because she didn’t go to a traditional film school or university. It always sticks out to me when she hints at that being an insecurity, or maybe I’m just reaching. But, I think she’s so well read, writes intriguing essays and is just a born storyteller. I also think her creative mind makes her a great director. Especially with all the Easter eggs she puts in her music videos. While they may be unhinged, that’s the brain of a director. I would be interested in seeing her maybe do some screenwriting. She really shines when she’s manipulating the muses (directing and writing) rather than being the muse herself (acting).
Her next step is......... a VISUAL ALBUM! lol. But seriously, if she could execute a cohesive visual album similar to Lemonade that could be a good step before making an entire movie. I would love some dialogue in there too. As usual, love the video and I had to laugh at Taylor getting embarrassed by Swifties in public haha

I think the age gap is so important because it happens to so many young females. You’re young and new to the world and an older man plucks you up and ruins parts of you. I think you should interview woman who when they were younger dated older men and then you will understand why this really wounded her as it has many other woman.
If she likes Guillermo Del Toro, she NEEDS to watch Crimson Peak. That movie goes down as my favorite under rated movie.
I really wanted to watch this Q&A with some sensible commentary. You’re doing the lords work!

@@theswiftologist I agree! She definitely has the resources and creative bandwidth to do both. Also would love if in the next few years she FINALLY stops trying to act in other people's flop movies and focuses more on this behind-the-camera work that she clearly finds really creatively fulfilling! (That may be too much to ask tho lol we shall see!)

@PandoraStolen

I don't think she will ever stop writing music. I think that's going to be her main priority even if she starts making films. It's just an extension of who she is. She has said before that she often doesn't know how she feels about a situation until she writes a song about it. I'm sure there are an abundance of songs that will never see the light of day that she has written or at least poems. It's how she processes her emotions. And like she said in this video it's not taking a toll on her emotionally so it's not like it's going to give her burn out to write music. I feel like if she wasn't writing music then that's when she would feel all those negative aspects. So I feel like it's something she's always going to do no matter what else she has going on. It's just who she is. And at this point it has to just be second nature to her.
I would love to see a deep dive into Taylor's relationship with Katy Perry over the years, from the fearless tour to the bad blood feud to the YNTCD music video.

@@theswiftologist Yay!
She could definetely expand her production company to include projects by other creators. That would totally bring her the oportunity to develop as a writer/director/producer. I have to say, I've always wanted her to write a full pop soundtrack in the style of Simon and Garfunkel's The Graduate. That would be so epic.
I LOVE your comments, and I totally agree that the dialogue between Sadie and Dylan feels a little bit like they are improvising, especially because of the amount of times they say the word “f$ck”
Ahhh I loved this so much. It reminded me how despite any clownery she is still the supremely funny, deeply sharp and perceptive, nerdily creative, completely done with our embarrassing shit millennial cat lady. In a great gown beautiful gown. I missed her ❤️

Great episode and commentary. I’m intrigued by the vintage keyboard on the jade cover of Midnights.
The criteria for short film are originality production and entertainment. I get why you’re arguing it’s not a film but it tells a clear story. and is beautifully shot to portray a clear and entertaining narrative that is less than 40 minutes so for me meets Oscar short film definition pretty easily. Does not have to be done through dialogue only. I do think it’s funny to see her try to be serious but the fans think she’s “on a late night tv show”
I’m pretty sure she’s confirming ts10 is a heartbreak album huntiesssss
20:00 instantly made me think of the lyric “In the age of him, she wished she was thirty And made coffee every morning in a French press” and i just love how consistent she is with her thoughts/descriptions!

i'm binging the backlog so i randomly also just watched your girlbossification video, and TRULY i just continue to appreciate you as one the few swifties who is willing to be critical! like guys, it's OKAY to have nuanced opinions, taylor is just a person like anyone else and has had both stumbles and successes. there are impressive aspects AND unsavory aspects to her personality, carefully crafted image, and body of work, and that's okay to talk about, it doesn't make her excellent work any less excellent! from this video: it was so refreshing to hear someone finally call a spade a spade and just point out the fact that the all too well vid was just a long music video (not a short film) and that all it really did was depict the events described in the lyrics. and HA i also found the "dialogue" in the fight scene to be underwhelming! the las culturistas podcast had a great episode where they immediately clocked the fact that that's the kind of dialogue you get when you let young actors improvise a fight scene 🙃 so like YES those aspects are a bit silly, but as far as assessing this whole "filmmaker taylor" pr campaign as maybe a pivot towards more writing and directing? rom-com revival era taylor??? THAT WOULD BE AMAZING i am so down for that! okay rant concluded, thanks as always ha!

Loved this video!!! So interesting
Ok just a brief interruption to implore you to watch both Pan’s Labrynth and The Devil’s Backbone. Truly beautiful films. Amazing visuals and heartbreaking stories. The first is a creepy fantasy movie and the second is a horror/ghost film. Both set during the Spanish civil war. Please watch them. What do you think about the possibility of Taylor Swift writing a book? I always thought this would be something she would do because of her talents as a writer. If so, fiction or non-fiction?
Hi Zach! I just saw this video today. I'm from Agra. Hope you liked the Taj Mahal 😊
She has such a way with words I feel like I get a glimpse into her mind anytime she is talking about something she’s passionate about… so inspiring
I wonder if there is any Lost in Translation (Sofia Coppola) influence? For many reasons…
Re her getting stuck on the age gap - shes the same age now as Jake/John M were when they dated her at 19-21, which must be a big trigger for reassessing those relationships. Im about a year older than Taylor and the idea of being with at 19-21 yo is ba-na-nas in a way i couldn't possibly have appreciated when i was younger.
