Taycan Prototype Convinces at Endurance Run in Nardò

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In 24 hours, a pre-production Taycan covered an impressive distance of 3,425 km as part of an endurance and hot-climate test at the Nardò high-speed track in Italy. Sizzling temperatures of 42°C and a track temperature of nearly 54°C didn’t deter the Taycan, who achieved an average speed between 195 and 215 km/h. A positive result to lead us into the World Premiere on September 4th, 2019. Stay tuned: por.sc/kynZP6

    3425km, if we take avg speed of 200kph, that means 17.125hours of driving and 6.875hours of charging, if each fast charging takes 30mins, that means it charged 13.75times, that means for each charge, the car has 250km range at speed of 200kph, wow, impressive

    Actually I don't even car how often they charged. Normal Highway speeds - even Autobahn speeds - are around 100-120kph in the end (I live in Germany, I know about that). So even if I drive 200 for 5 minutes I'll never be able to drive 200 for 3hrs straight. Not gonna happen. More like 120-160. Also considering the higher energy consumption a car has at those speeds (my Mazda3 consumes like 70% more fuel at 200 compared to 110kph) I'd expect the Taycan to do about 450-500km at normal speeds which is perfectly acceptable considering the charging times. You could go 900km but only stop for about 20 minutes which I'd do in any car to get some food, visit a toilet etc. Also going 1000km in 7hrs including charging is impressive. I've never even made it in 10hrs.

  • @shockwave1xD

    @shockwave1xD

    4 жыл бұрын

    Degradation is not as significant as everybody is saying if the car has a good cooling system. E.g. some dude bought an old Model S with over 320.000km on the clock and it only lost 14% of the initial capacity. Depending how well you treat the battery (charging just to 80% is better for the battery) it'll last longer. But tbh, I don't know a lot of modern cars that exceed that mileage in any way. They'd die before that. Actually I can't think of any modern car that'd get this far without significant damage.

  • @WinterCharmVods

    @WinterCharmVods

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, also EV battery chemistry is not like phone battery chemistry which is only good for 500 cycles. EV chemistry is heavier and requires active thermal management but can handle 10,000 charge cycles before hitting 80% capacity. At 300 miles per charge you’re looking at 3 million miles before the battery is “spent”

  • @shockwave1xD

    @shockwave1xD

    4 жыл бұрын

    What they're trying to say: you can theoretically go 1000km in 7hrs including charging. Which is way faster than I ever took to go 1000km. Or in realistic measures: go 400km, stop (charge), visit a restroom, grab something to eat and drink, walk a few steps and the car will be ready to do another 400km. Just as you'd do in any other car when going long distances. The reason why they don't talk about range is probably because there is no fixed measure. A Panamera would probably be at 25l/100km at those speeds. At the same time it could be going at 12l at normal speeds. So does the Taycan or any other EV. Goos thing about EVs is: they can be very efficient. I had a Tesla P85D for a day recently and managed to get the same energy consumption as a small Renault Zoe when going on normal roads at normal speeds. All that while having a shit ton of power available in a very heavy car. In the end I averaged about 23,x kWh per 100km. While mostly driving on the Autobahn, also doing multiple 0-100 runs, accelerating like a mad person all the time, driving fast etc. The Zoe gets about 17-19kWh at normal highway speeds I believe. So you get the idea.

    It appears that the Taycan is the first all electric car that is worth considering for me. It appears to have a decent range and can drive at normal Autobahn speeds - yes I like to travel at speeds from 160 to 200kph if there is an unlimited part and traffic allows. I’m sure it will also have the suspension to handle well if Porsche developed it. Finally I suppose it will also have the finish and quality fitting the price as that has always been alright with Porsche. I was completely disappointed from the quality of the interior of a Tesla Model X I looked at. So maybe when changing cars next it will be time to trade my BMW X3 for a Taycan.

    Just a picky point a . is not an differentiator of a thousand in most countries, so that final 3.425 means just shy of three and a half KM in 24hrs - which isn't as impressive and 3425km or even the 3,425km you achieved :).
