I wish we had more simple villains like this in cartoons or live action shows alike. More bad guys who aren't evil cos they KNOWINGLY are evil. Or evil because thet have some bitter backstory to their evil. Just a regular friendly guy, with a regular dirty job, serving the other top bad guy, who is content and amused with his boring evil job. That is ironically something we see far more often in everyday life, people who really don't think they are bad, but just a regular shmoe doing bad things for a paycheck and ignoring how cruel it can be. It shows a bizarrely human aspect to the sheriff. Plus its just hilarious.

This is one of my favorite scenes from Disney's "Robin Hood" and I still have this movie on VHS too! I remember I first got this movie on VHS for Christmas back in 1998, and I was only seven years old at the time! The VHS copy of this movie that I also have was released in the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection lineup since I own a lot of Disney films on VHS as part of the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection that way. Even though the Sheriff of Nottingham is also a villain and all in this movie, he's also one of my favorite characters in this movie along with Prince John, Sir Hiss, Little John, Friar Tuck, and Robin Hood himself. It actually would have nice though probably if the Sheriff would have reformed after the events of this movie along with Sir Hiss too since I would really love to see those two villains reformed or redeemed rather.

The real reason: the film was meant to be a more whimsical take on Robin Hood set in the Old American Wild West. But that idea was scrapped and returned back to original medieval England. They just enjoyed the character voices so much most were left with a cowboy or American voice cos the world already was silly to begin with.

@@CrAzYGAMINGWOLF...What?
1:32 No wonder these people have no money, their houses are basically wide open and literally anybody can enter.
0:06 April 15 IRS Theme Song
I hated this guy when I was a child and I hate him even more now as an adult!! Such classic movie loved watching it growing up

At the end of the day The Sheriff is just a simple man making his way through the universe
I thought it was the IRS's job to collect taxes.
“Keep saving” 🙄😒😭
He's got a point later in the movie - he's just following orders. Also later when he takes the farthing from Skippy I always found that funny especially how his hand reaches out.

Just because they're orders doesn't mean following them is the right thing to do.
Usually, when you grow up you begin identifying more with the villains, but we all just hated this guy more
This is gonna be the IRS now that Congress has funded them.
Middle ages version of Dirty cop.
The hilarity of this entire scene is, after all these years it suddenly hit me that the Sheriff's voice actor was Mr. Haney from Green Acres, and both characters were always after money!
this later led to the development of a document called the Magna Carta (Which limits the power of the monarchy)
this movie made me very uncomfortable as a child and now i fully understand why 20 years later
Ever time he collects taxes he deals 1 damage. (Lorcana joke.)
“Here I come! Ready or not!”
As a kid I think I understood the phrase read the room. 2:04 that kinda stuck with me as a kid even now i can't help but give poor people something anything damn...
landlord collecting rent be like:
Sheriff's still more loveable and comedic than Captain Shrote from The Darkness.
You get why the citizens appreciate Robin lifting their spirits during this difficult times and how they aren't sure how to repay him back for it. This is why they root for him and Marian.

Don't know why the sheriff of Nottingham in this movie was given a Southern drawl when this movie takes place in mediaeval England's and seeing as Nottingham is in Northern England he should really speak with a Northern English accent

The real reason: the film was meant to be a more whimsical take on Robin Hood set in the Old American Wild West. But that idea was scrapped and returned back to original medieval England. They just enjoyed the character voices so much most were left with a cowboy or American voice cos the world already was silly to begin with.
The Sheriff is a Big Bad Wolf
This guy is the first thing that comes to my mind whenever someone talks about the current brazilian minister of finance LOL.

Just change the word “taxes” to “service fees”.
The sheriff reminds me of the parking “cops” in downtown Seattle, when I lived there. Yeah you’re just doing your job but it’s REALLY shitty work.

What you described there is literally a Communist society... No currency, all means of production held in common, universal brotherhood etc etc... Thing is it's the end result of a process called Socialism. Which has been tried a good few times... somehow they keep getting the recipe wrong.

And that's the American dream for some people in government thinking raising taxes makes it better but if they really want to help have the rich if you make certain amount have to pay taxes and the people under that don't have to yeah let's screw over the young person and say we're really just taxing the rich more but yet taxing everyone more

@@azazel166 It pretty much did with Henry 8th. Prior to him the church or monasteries took care of the poor, handicapped, or those unable to support themselves. Henry and his ministers, particularly Thomas Cromwell had put most of the monasteries out of business by seizing their land. From then on it was the crown who would give alms to the poor instead of the church. That got expensive. When Henry died, he had run up a big national debt.
