Tavares (also known as The Tavares Brothers) is an American R&B, funk and soul music group composed of five Cape Verdean-American brothers. Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, they would later move to New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Tavares is:
• Butch - Feliciano Tavares, born 18 May 1948.
• Chubby - Antone Lee Tavares, born 2 June 1945.
• Pooch - Arthur Lee Tavares, born 12 November 1943.
• Ralph - Ralph Viera Tavares, born 10 December 1942.
• Tiny - Perry Lee Tavares, born 24 October 1949.
1975 turned out to be their most successful year chartwise, with a Top 40 Pop album (In the City), the No. 25 hit "Remember What I Told You to Forget", and their biggest hit, the Top 10 Pop/No. 1 R&B smash "It Only Takes a Minute", which was later successfully covered by both Jonathan King and Take That, and sampled by Jennifer Lopez. They parlayed this success into a spot as an opening act for The Jackson 5. KC and The Sunshine Band was also on this tour. "Minute" was followed by a string of hits: "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" (1976), "Don't Take Away the Music" (1976), and "Whodunit" (1977, another No. 1 R&B hit).

Absolutely my favorite group of all time.
Played as the last song of the night at most of the teen dances back in the 60's. Great memories!
Excellent harmonies. I could listen to them over and over.
I have never heard this song by The Tavares! I have only heard the one by Jessie Belvin that my mother listened to. This guy made this version his own! He killed it!

Also recorded in 59 by Ray Peterson...beautiful version too. But Chubby knocked it out of park. Written by Barrh White when he was only a young teenager.
First time ever hearing this version by Tavares. Absolutely beautiful. Loving it!🥰

They just blend so well together but Butch is my favorite.
These guys are like my family . Keenia and myself will never forget what they did for Ally. We will always love them. Sadly Ralph has passed away and for a while now Pooch has retired . Great people, great voices and great song. Love you guys , always ❤🎼🎤🎶

This is the one of best R&B groups back in the 60’s. I saw them as a young person in Toronto. They were amazing and funny they still are in my opinion. We are all getting older but the music from there is the best. Music makes me so happy
Chubby sounds so good. Tavares were one of the very best r&b group out of the 70s.. The brothers were harmonizing and so fine with it...my favorite brother is Tiny there on the end 😘

When Chubby stood up and they showed him singing close up I felt like running full speed towards my 55 inch flat screen TV and hugging it and kissing him on the screen because I felt like he was singing to meeeee!!!!🤗🤗🤗 LOL.but my boyfriend was sitting nearby soooooo that wouldn’t have been too cool. Can you believe they had only 1 Top Ten hit? "It Only Takes A Minute" from 1975..... They were so underrated. In my opinion, they were the best R&B group of all time!!!

Memories of this song being played always include military NCO Club dances on the weekends. This was the last song of the night. Good times dancing with fellow soldiers. I never wanted the dance to end.

The finest R&B group of all time!!!! Four of them sang lead vocals...depending on the song. 70% of them were by Chubby....followed by Butch, the falsetto specialist. No one, past or present, had better vocals....and their writing was great too!!! I am proud to say Chubby is a friend of mine!! A real nice guy....

Right away I knew they would make Jesse proud. OUTSTANDING job singing this once in a lifetime love ballad. In the 60's many a baby got conceived in the back seat of a car during this song.

The last song that was usually played at Roseland Ballroom, late 70's, age 19 years old and made sure I had that last dance with a lovely senorita before the club closed at 4am!

Chubby is a friend of mine. He wishes they had recorded more as well....but when they stopped in 1983, music was starting to get kind of stupid. Their style might not have "cut it"

They are still performing. They are going to be in New Bedford, on Mother’s Day, 2023 playing at the Zeiterion theatre. I’m blessed by my daughter to have tickets. Can’t wait. Best wishes ♥️♥️🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

Written by john Mascasolto and George Mortolo..always HATED for this wonderful dreamy song to be played by DJ ay school Dances.I always meant the magic of the night was over. I was in 9th grade....in 1959. Ray Peterson recorded it which was prettier...and dancing with my first puppy love, David. 💞 Then in 1975 Chubby Tevares along with pooch' tiny ' Butch' and Ralph knocked it out of the park. love this....what memories! 🎶💕🎶
