Yep! I find a sort of tape vibe to this recording. It sounds great. I like to experiment in different types of environments. I haven't done a Dawless recording in quite a while so this is refreshing and inspiring. Thanks a lot for sharing this and keep up the good work !.

Hey there, thanks so much for checking out the video and taking the time to leave a comment. Much appreciated my friend. I was shocked at how easy it was to work the tascam and how much I could get out of it with minimal effort👍

When i brought my Tascam model 12 was with the primary intention of running away from daw's . Now knowing the capabilities of the Tascam model 12 and having a new (second hand laptop ) i'm trying to found the best daw that could work the Tascam Model 12 and also the best one for beginners . The song sounded great , congratulations for the good work and sharing and for showing how this multitrack recorder is very capable piece of gear in a home studio music

hi Clarissa, thanks for taking time to leave such a lovely comment, much appreciated. I think the beauty of the machine is that it can be used standalone or with a daw - whatever mood you are in it is great a both. I use it with logic and it is great - would highly recommend logic or garage band. I used to use it in pro tools - it worked well but was a bit harder to set up

sounds kinda like George Harrison's soul jumped into your body and borrowed it for a few hours to make this song, and then jumped back out when you finished the mix ;)

@themediapreacher8154 yeah, I watched this video after the other one and thought the same thing. How do you get decent drums on this unit? Is it in the box, or is there an app I can transfer onto the unit. I usually start my songs with a beat in the style I'm after and vibe on that with the chords I'm using, then build the song around that. My old drum machine had fills on it and it really made my mixes come alive.

@@titmusspaultpaul5hey Paul, the drums on this track are a you tube drum loop which I recorded onto tracks 7 and 8. Loads of drummers on you tube with beats just search drum beat and the bpm you want 👍

@themediapreacher8154 thanks for the info. Do they have drum fills I can use as well? I'm leaning towards the Tascam unit. I use to work with a 4 track Tascam unit and I found it very easy to use. Is this unit easy to use? Thanks.

Cool mate, cheers. Couple of thoughts: First off, thank you for making this demo feature an actually pretty good song with competent singing, Almost every other 'gear demo' type video for the Model 12 that I've watched has very poor music being recorded on it, which is a bummer to sit through. Secondly, with regard to the compressor knob, another KZreadr (RecordingStudio9) made a detailed analysis of how it works.( The upshot is here... kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWiM2rd9dbPdZaw.html.) Basically, at 25% (9 o'clock or so) it acts as a high threshold 100:1 limiter, and then as you go clockwise on the knob, the threshold lowers, and the ratio drops as well down to your typical 8:1 - 4:1 compression ratios. So it does very different things depending where you are on the knob, not just "less/more". Finally, I am planning to get a Model 12 and use it similar to what you've done here, so your video was a nice workflow tour.

Hey neekomax, thanks for such an interesting comment and for pointing me in the direction of this video. The manual could be better for the device in truth. Have fun using it, it is a great toy to have, who could have imagined this 25 years ago ?👍

Really nice, what did you do to get such a sound for the guitar, I mean inside the mixer, what functions did you do and is there anything external to get this sound

Hey Shay, thanks so much. Not really, I think the Tascam has a really smooth preamp, I then just mixed the guitar well, added some gentle compression with the comp knob and did a hi pass with the eq 👍

Hey good job there! I am thinking of getting one of these to use like my old 80's cassette four track. Do you mix down directly on the Model 12 then export an mp3 because that is what I want to do, no computer if possible. Thanks!

hey there, thanks for checking out the video and the channel. thanks for the encouragement. I have to admit I exported into logic and then gave it a bit of extra comp, eq and tape sat before putting into the video. I need to work out how to add a bit of polish in the box - maybe a quest for a future video.

I've owned and used the model 12 for four or five years now and I must say this is not a very useful video for someone who wants to know how to actually use the model 12 as a stand-alone multitrack recorder because it leaves out essential information, like how to add effects to single tracks by bouncing, or how to actually master to the main track and how to export that to a final file, (one way of accomplishing this being to record to channel 11/12 ie the main) etc. It might serve a useful purpose in encouraging people to further explore the model 12, which is great. The host does seem to enjoy the process, so nice job there.

Hey Ian, thanks for checking out the video and for taking the time to leave a comment. I have to admit as much as I love it I am rubbish at using it and dont have a great knowledge of all its ins and outs. for that reason I cannot profess to be an authority on its use, the vid was more a vlog of me doing my best with the knowledge I have to record a song :-)

I feel like the keyboard had a frequency issue or was slightly out of tune. Still impressive. I have an old korg d888. My only issue was it had a long save or write time. I’m sure this is much improved

I tend to agree chud, I think it’s a frequency issue. I think this demonstrates the restriction in using a device like this. On a Daw you can go in and fix this but are a little stuck with it in this scenario. Thanks for checking the video and leaving such an interesting comment 👍 hopefully see you on the next one

@@themediapreacher8154 I have found if you’re recording a synth you have to tune to the patch. Which isn’t ideal. I had an old Casio that I swear was sharp on random keys. On the plus side my synths usually have a setting you can go in and fix the hertz to being it to room standard.
