I suggest using the DM24 for midi only (to control your DAW), and keeping you mix "inside the box".

ok sure. thanks for the information. I recently got a DM24 for $150. Sounded like a bargain to me, but I haven't connected it to my studio and not sure if it will work for me in my current setup. It does have the firewire card installed, so I might but a firewire PCI card for my PC, install it, and try connecting the Tascam VIa Firewire to my PC and see how that pans out. I am running windows 7 64 bit and Ableton live. Not sure if it will be compatible. Iw ill be trying it soon. otherwire 2nd option, I will end up buying an audio interface such as the focusrite scarlett 128i20 and use the Tascam via Adat light pipes, so I can have 8 channels or additional mic/line + all the internal onboard effects. :)

Hey, did you ever get this working? I just picked up a cheap DM24 and am planning to use it with Ableton. I have the ADAT working, and can manually map faders as MIDI controllers, so that's something I guess :)

@awqalli sorry, I don't use the DM24 for any audio - I run it 100% with midi to control cubase, so I'm not sure if you can do that with the firewire card. Maybe you can route the effects to the DM24 aux returns and route those to one of your input channels that is assigned to the firewire card. Just a guess.

Does DP have a concept of a "generic" or "midi" remote? The DM24 sends midi for all of it's movements. That is the basis of the cubase setup.

Hi, i was wondering, what version of cubase are you using? I have a iMac running OS X Leopard, (which i could upgrade to snow L or Lion) with Cubase 5. I would love to buy a DM 24 with the firewire card but the Tascam site says it isn't supported by OS X, I keep doing research and apparently the DAW control features are no problem (I have a midi interfase) but most people dont use the 24 to record audio. Could i do that no problem with the firewire card? And, any comments on the 24's preamps?

Hi Jon, I recently purchased a DM 24 and MOTU 2408mk3 and I am having a hard time getting it set up. I am receiving signal to Digital Performer 10, but track 1 is coming in on tracks 1 and 2 and nothing is appearing on 3,4,5. I'm hoping you might be kind enough to help me get this sorted out. I have almost the same soft- and hardware as yours (I use Cubase (vers 3) + DM 24 and it works well with Firewire...BUT may you explain here how you connect analog/digital extern FX like Tc electronics and route to Cubase and record it? Thanks for sharing, Ok so in other words, you are controlling Cubase using the midi from the Tascam. Does this setup of your make use of the Motorised faders of the Tascam ? Wouldn't u rather use the HUI protocol of the Tascam ? Have u tried setting it up using FireWire and recording audio from the Tascam into your DaW ? Many thanks

Amar Mashruwala No prob! The HUI doesn't give as many channels of control from what I remember. It's also more cumbersome. This setup for me was more natural. I don't have the firewire card and only record two channels through my old school apogee psx 100 SE. Maybe someone else can chime in about the AD setup for the tascam. I simply use it as a big control surface nowadays.

Amar Mashruwala Hey! I don't use firewire at all. All midi. I think I use a roland mdi controller fwiw. This is a non audio setup with cubase.

Does Reaper support a concept of a generic midi interface that you can map to faders in reaper? If so then it should work. The DM24 sends and receives midi for faders, pans, mutes and it's transport functions (play, record, stop).

just picked one of these up for $350.00. Only issue now is figuring it all out now, coming from a purely analogue setup.

can u send the audio to a Daw And Use the console As A Controller With Only The Firewire Card Connected Bc My Imac doesn't have All Those Other Connections

Mmc closed option say ‘’device is not active”. How solve it?

is it possible to say use the faders for tracks above 32? like if you had 40 tracks would you be able to move across to use the faders for the next 8 tracks above or does it stop at 32? any help would be much appreciated

There are 3 fader layers and 16 faders so in theory, you should be able to to control 48 tracks

i'm looking for something to mix at 64 channels,32 is to less for me, why does steinberg not bring a daw mixer with at least 64 faders, and basic controls,would be nice to mix, i don't like the layers,that would be something great

There are Tons of options for that kind of setup ~ And they are VERY Pricey! You usually only see those kinds of setups in top of the line Pro Audio Studio's... But hey if you have that cash hit up Sweetwater.com they'll be glad to hook you up! lol

Unfortunately every time you move the faders your left arm hides their moving. see at 1:53

Actually check the latest link I added in the description now. I just added an images folder to the zip which shows all screenshots of the DM 24 combined with the mixer map in the zip, you should be good to go. Let me know! I'm not sure I can get the old blog back but I did find the screenshots just now which completes the puzzle!
