[TAS] NES Monopoly "4 CPUs" by FractalFusion in
Ойындар
This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/717M.html. TAS originally published on 2006-11-21.
While the CPUs were distracted, FractalFusion (tasvideos.org/FractalFusion.html) changed the dice on them and then left the board for a few minutes. When he came back, all the CPUs were crying. The fraud squad is still investigating.
This movie aims to defeat 4 CPU controlled players, ceasing to press buttons on the controller after as little time as possible. Luck is manipulated for the first 1:08, and then the CPUs are left to lose by themselves without requiring any further actions by the player. Watch a resync (github.com/alyosha-tas/NES_re...) of this run being played back on a real console ( • TAS - Monopoly "4 CPUs... ).

Imagine manipulating RNG so well that you can just sit back for two thirds of the run. This was impressive in 2006 and it still is now.

The music in this game is oddly haunting and eerie for a board game, and it always gave me chills as a child.

Everybody's gangster until their opponent gets a monopoly and builds 12 houses on turn two 🤣

Only a TAS could finish a game of Monopoly in less than three hours

I feel like the technicalities involved with this TAS and this category makes this run seem more impressive than meets the eye despite how short it is.

If you read the submission, the author goes over a LOT of the technicalities of it, if you're curious and haven't gone to it yet. A ton of research in these 3 minutes.
That ending was artistic.
I love how normally a game would take a while, and then there's just TAS: Not even halfway around the board and all the AI go fucking bankrupt on their first loop.

Really? 🤔 The thought of going homeless because of your lack of understanding of adult concepts and property ownership, was too much to handle as a kid? 🤷♂️ Maybe I should ease up on my 11 y/o tax accountant... The feeling of dread might be too much for him during middle-school. 🏫 🤣

The auction music is surprisingly intense, the crisp commanding voice of the jailer is rather unheard of, I can get it.
for an NES game these graphics look pretty good tbh
OMG that Chance troll was hilarious
Maude got played dirty that's for certain.
If this TAS is fully repeatable with the exact same input sequence, the RNG is almost certainly an algorithm (perhaps pre-seeded with information like player/CPU names, player/CPU token choice, etc., or just given a fixed initial value), which takes the previous (or initial) RNG value and spits out a new value (which is then stored for the next call), giving a new value every call until it ends up back at the first value, then repeating this same chain of values while the console (or emulator) runs. This is what Super Mario 64 used (pannenkoek2012 has an extensive explanation on his Uncommentated Pannen-channel).
Remember playing this with our grandpa back in 2000. Lmao great to see this game ain’t forgotten
i gotta say, the sound design for this is pretty impressive for NES. i wonder if this came out late in the NES cycle.

I remember all of the bullshit with the RNG in this game and how it favored the computer players so much. It was very satisfying watching them get owned in 2 minutes.

You have to remember it's a cheap product of the great depression. Putting it into that context it makes way more sense.
This was actually insane.
the go back 3 spaces card that appeared at 2:21, wouldnt that be usefull in 0:50 so you go to the street you have to buy instead of going back and having to roll again to get the street you need? also in that 2:21 idk why you couldnt just roll a 2 or a 3 again instead of having to use the go back of the card lol
This game always had a certain nightmarish quality.
@ericsbuds

the fact that you put your opponents on the street looking for food in trash cans is a bit dark xD
Imagine going past the property u would bankrupt on just to get chance card-ed back
What the… did you just build 12 houses each in 3 properties…?
Is it even possible to end the game earlier?
Somehow, Edward Khil's Trolololo song fits well here.

Have TAS change the setting in the options to "RELAX" versus "HURRY". CPU will end their turn faster. (or its vise versa)

bankrupt 4 cpus in 1min is impressive
I'm confused about the time "01:07.67" I guess this was made before any form of speedrun community rules were created. Maybe they can update this video to include the actual time of the run, "Timing begins when you hit A on the "Press 'A' to Start Game..." screen. Timing ends when the final CPU player's "____ is bankrupt" screen appears. " So it looks to be around 2: 13 to me 0:14 - 2:27
@JordyMegaman
3 жыл бұрын
The timer ends right after the last input is "pressed" by the TASer. If this were a speedrun, then the timer would end at the end screen, but in the case of a TAS you count how many frames have passed before the last input. This is roughly how it works.
@xxEzraBxxx
3 жыл бұрын
That’s when the TAS stops pressing buttons entirely, it manipulates the board to bankrupt the other players the rest of the game while no input is being pressed
This is the weirdest political cartoon ever. "Ollie is bankrupt!" -That awkward moment when he can't find GOOD STUFF CHEAP. "Arthur is bankrupt!" -By whom, D.W.? D: "Erwin is bankrupt!" -CRIKEY. I could've sworn that at 0:13, I saw a "Carmen" who looked awfully familiar...
Los quebraron a todos en una sola ronda

Which is probably why an HD version had never been uploaded before. It makes me suspect someone may be going through and uploading HD versions for any old videos thar don't have one yet. (You may think HD is pointless for such older games, but it gives nice crisp pixels and colors, and allows the video to uploaded at the original 60fps. Non-HD TASes do look noticeably much worse.)
@xxEzraBxxx
3 жыл бұрын
@@ZipplyZane No, it’s because back then high quality encodes did not have 60fps bc youtube didnt support it until 2015, and the fact that due to changes in youtube video compression older runs are compressed badly by youtube even at high quality, so they get re-encodes. also at higher qualities youtube allots more bits even to lower qualities
btw my amount is $17473
All the players who went bankrupt go to the corner of Baltic & Oriental Ave where they will find a half eaten sandwich in the garbage, eat it & then find a Community Chest in hopes of getting $200.00, only to find the card that says they won 2nd place in a beauty contest. Then, their stomachs will start gurgling & they won't be able to hold in their assets anymore & just liquidate right in the hat, right there in the street & then finally... A cop shows up & wants to see some ID. Get it?
you can't pay your bill! you owe $1500 for rent. funny
