Too bad that it wasn't possible to play older tournaments normally, and we got stuck on Dk mountain GC with the rings mission

This entire video is gratuitous amounts of nostalgia and I love every second of it

Ah, Mission Mode. One of the reasons I loved Mario Kart DS. I know these racing games are meant to be enjoyed multiplayer, but I really wish another Mario Kart did something like this again.

2 Years ago, I always thought"TAS" was a Tool Assisted Speedrun and I criticise this video for it, but now 2 Years afters today, I realise "TAS" can be a different meaning. "Tool Assisted Superplay", and for someone to get triple stars on every mission in one try is quite impressive. It might not always be about going fast but this is a good Tool Assisted play right here.

It's impressive but not really. If it's TAS'd then everything is either planned out already or slowed down to essentially double the amount of inputs. There's also no RNG so this can easily be done non-TAS'd.

How did I only just now realize that the Chain Chomp race mission uses the Chain Chomp music from Double Dash?? I swear I had no idea it was even in the games files until now!

Actually, Mario Kart DS took some points from Double Dash such as the tracks, character portraits etc, and the game was once planned to use the Bowser Shell and Chain Chomp but they got removed in the final game.

Gotta love it when you're one of the people who actually enjoy watching this regardless of time taken.

I think the entire point of this TAS is to show that 3-star runs are possible without ever drifting, and most of the people complaining just didn't get it.

@@AGZhark yeah, I was referring to Luigi's Mansion. It doesn't appear to happen anywhere else. I believe the crash is coupled to an issue with Luigi's Mansion specifically because the crash doesn't occur in the kiosk demo which was based off of the E3 2005 build of MKDS. This crash only happens in the final build; after a litany of small changes were made to the gameplay and tracks in the game.

I'd at least put in the description: "Snakeless/Driftless speedrun unless required by the Mission"

Omg! Another Anthony Jones TAS! I love watching this guy’s TAS videos! I watched his entire Mario and Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story TAS, I think he did a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon one too, he makes the best! Mario Tennis Power too was another!

6-8 may be impossible to beat without the rocket start. 7-6 is insane as you have to drift perfectly as a D rank, an A rank and a 3 Star rank are close together timewise.

Man it's so sad how they took away mission modes in other games of Mario Kart to come... I REALLY think they could pull off a fun "Story mode" for a Mario kart game with a big overworld to drive around in like Diddy Kong Racing.

Huh. This being a TAS, I sorta expected it to be... crazier? Given the lack of a description I'm kinda confused as to what the purpose of this is, since it looks like it hasn't been fully optimized. Not that I would know though, since I don't TAS Mario Kart DS myself.

Fun fact: if you go into Mario kart Wii’s files you’ll find a mission mode file

Feels like the stars were used a bit too early on Mario Circuit and you ended up hitting offroad a bit - but you still got 3 stars so it's no biggie

0:51 I thought that music was unused in the files. I think that's because I haven't played Mission Mode in a while.

So guys: 1. A TAS is not always a speedrun. 2. This run is not impressive, however try to get all 3 stars first try in a row, not so easy now huh? Maybe this is the only helpful run I have seen, it's not using TAS-only strategies, but shows us how to easily get 3 stars.

I think "fewest drifts" is a better title, as he has to drift in some missions. Or perhaps "human theory".

Even a "No no-mandatory drifts" TAS can be way faster.

in real time this is one second faster than my Personal Best time of 43:44 (selecting first mission to crossing the line on wiggler). and this is with frame perfect menuing. kind of a joke lol.

Maybe people should've realized this was a TAS that showed that its possible to get a time this big without snaking AT ALL. It's easily see-able. The other thing is that it tried to pull drifting the most few times as it could. This is also easily see-able. I don't understand why people aren't getting this at all really.

Seriously though.... It's a kart racer. There isn't a ton of movement tech or exploits to abuse. Just perfect execution. Stop complaining and enjoy your nostalgia trip.
